How do you like my Christmas Mummies? I didn't really plan to use so many greens and reds. Maybe it's just the time of year but they do kinda have a Christmas vibe to them. Have a great Holiday BTW! Thanks as always for the support. This is my last video for 2022 so I'll see you next year! Also I used sirayatech (grey) and any cubic tough (clear) resin to print these. The Any cubic tough takes paint as well as any other resin if you were wondering. I'd suggest getting a pigmented version of it though. I had a lot of issues with the clear.

As somebody that just focuses on getting models table ready speed paints work fine. A coat of speed paint and wet blend up the flat areas with a slightly brighter acrylic is super fast.

Why does everyone say the reactivation is an issue? I strongly suggest taking a look at Dana Howl, how to work with the speedpaints and take advantage of the properties they have.
@hauntswargaming
@hauntswargaming Год назад
I think there was just an expectation that they would work exactly like contrast. Dana does have some good videos on them. She has a color reference section on her site as well that I use sometimes.
@Evilminiature
@Evilminiature Год назад
Because it is? I don’t want my fking “speed” paint to reactivate. Just the fact they call them speed is a joke in itselfz
@rossilavery
@rossilavery Год назад
I think the reactivation is an issue. I almost never just put a single layer of 1 'contrast paint' and leave it at that. I the second it is dry I go back in and do washes, transitions and blends with colours over the top. Then I inevitably go back in with additional layers of dry brushing and highlights etc. The way I paint with contrast paints basically demands that the paint does not reactivate otherwise I would end up with tearing everywhere. I don't have access to a airbrush and I can't always spray paint when I want given the weather I live with and so unfortunately the speed paints just don't work for me in their current form. If it was ever fixed however I would certainly jump.

I got a few xpress colors...i like them but speedpaints still make better highlights...there is not as much contrast with xpress because they are so thin..speedpaints are still king for me..I have no idea why people are crying reactivation issue...its only an issue with water diluted acrylics without letting SP dry enough
@elbitxo5945
@elbitxo5945 Год назад
Thing is if you already have some/many speedpaints, you'd rather stick with them in order to be able to mix them properly to achieve new colors, and IMO they offer the best saturation and contrast values while not being that patchy. Plus, like many others, I didn't have reactivation issues at all, it's really easy to work around it or use it to your benefit, it's only a problem if you try to glaze, which I don't because it takes too much time. The price is pretty close in my country, even being Vallejo's homeland, the SP are only 40 cents more expensive and both are much cheaper than the Contrast line. I will probably get some Xpress colors since they tend to mimic the Contrast range, specially if the new SP fail to provide nice purples and a better white and yellow. Some other translucent paints to keep on mind are the Green Stuff World's Dipping Inks, the cheapest considering their bottle size, but I'm not a big fan of their color range. Being cautious until I see more full depth reviews, if I wanted to start painting with translucent paints in 2023 I'd probably go Vallejo, not only because the price, but because the matte finish, completing the color range with a few bottles of other brands.
@elbitxo5945
@elbitxo5945 Год назад
@@mariooooo.o3404 reactivation is also an issue for those using them to glaze. Look at Juan Hidalgo's review. Probably the most advanced painters like Juan, David Soper or Emil Squidmar will discard SP for that reason, but it really isn't an issue for me or most people out there.

@sethpeterson8261 Год назад
Got speedpaint mega set at launch and after painting several games now they're my main go-to now. They're pretty great as-is, the reactivation as an issue has been blown out of proportion and they've pretty much replaced my contrast paints. I am looking forward to the new colors and formula too. Were all of these models dipped in Quickshade or just some?
@hauntswargaming
@hauntswargaming Год назад
Everything except the "spirits" I believe. I think I'm going to use a brush in the future. It globs up easily If you aren't careful. I've been testing out the green stuff dipping inks and really find myself missing being able to just wipe the paint off sections after it's dried.
@sethpeterson8261
@sethpeterson8261 Год назад
@@hauntswargaming Ive used Quickshade twice, once dipping and once brushing (although I didn't wipe it off any areas) and it took days to get close to dry, but for weeks still felt tacky. Ended up stripping the minis. Looks like you got better results, although if you dipped without varnishing in first I wonder if it would melt the speedpaints? If it worked without varnishing first that would be great.
@hauntswargaming
@hauntswargaming Год назад
@@sethpeterson8261 QS IS a varnish so as long as you aren't brushing it on aggressively it seals the paint too. I think you really gotta keep it from pooling to get good results.

I got the starter set and was surprised that they didn't just replace every paint and technique I ever learned. Army Painter Quickshade used to be a common tool but it's fallen out of favour. The modern version (which I would say is superior) is oil washes. You'll see a lot of other RU-vidrs with videos about them, but it's the same effect as APQS but with more control over where it goes and where it stays and more range in strength and colour of the shading effect. It is more work than the old dip method though.
@hauntswargaming
