In this video, I review the three comedy specials of Steve-O to see what is good, bad and in between. Check out my twitter and patreon / beigefrequency / beigefrequency
How sick is it to be well known enough by the comedy scene for your reviews, Steve-O actually reaches out and suggests you do him next, good for you Beige.
If we’re being honest, Steve-O is not a standup comic, but he does have some really awesome stories to tell. If you were to rate him as a straight-up comic, he’s average, but he does have some really good stories and life lessons, with a Mike Tyson-esque turnaround in terms of his character
He's like Mick Foley in that sense. We want to hear stories and they're really fun people, so it's fine if their straight up "comedy chops" aren't stellar.
He shouldn't be famous at all honestly. Got to where he is by being out of his mind on drugs. Uses his platform (that he wouldn't have ever made it to without being a dumb drug addict) to shit on other people on drugs and promote garbage products to his braindead fanbase. Steve o is a waste of time. This video isn't worth listening to.
@@Scawtsauce He’s not, he’s a stuntman compressing his stories into a routine. Still good quality stuff at times, but he’s an orator and storyteller as opposed to a standup comedian
I get so fucking hyped whenever you upload. Whatever sound you use at the beginning of the videos sets such a good vibe and you know it’s going to be a classic
I've seen comments claiming it's "Tunisian knife fighting music," but since I've never participated in a Tunisian knife fight, I have no perspective as to whether or not that's accurate.
@@arithecat2991 if you consider him lame now because he isn’t huffing nitrous oxide and doing as much dumb shit at 50 as he did when he was in his twenties then that’s on you.
steve o was abysmal on the adam friendland show & danny brown’s podcast. he’s an extremely boring guy that loves advertisements & is just sort of riding a wave of nostalgia. he’s sleepwalking into comedy.
I get you, those two appearances weren’t great to watch, but it doesn’t deny his 25 year long career and hard work he put into comedy (even if it’s not strictly stand up)
I remember Jack Ass and Wild Boyz. Seeing Steve-O always hits a bit of nostalgia for me, but I’ll be honest, Steve-O and stunts are to me very much like the episode of SpongeBob where he is constantly ripping his pants. It’s funny early on, but eventually people got bored of it and so he pushes the boundaries further and further until he takes it too far.
That was a really good analogy. As someone in recovery Steve-O is a tough one. I so deeply admire his ability to pull himself out of his addiction but he has kinda grown an attitude I don't love where he thinks he knows what everyone needs when it comes to addiction and recovery. Idk he seems like he has a good heart and the nostalgia gets me too as a 2000s kid.
I've never once ever thought that stupid shit was funny. Hurting yourself on purpose just ain't funny . Getting hurt by mistake is but that we're always doing dumb shit to me.
When people have a show that's not exactly "stand up" but also kind of is, I just call it a one-man show. Lots of great comics have specials like that. Paul F. Thompkins' first special "Driven To Drink" is like this, as well as a lot of Colin Quinn's history centric specials. It's a good way to distinguish that it's a person on stage talking and joking, but not diminishing it just because it's not "stand-up". Anyway, this was very insightful and not as harsh on Steve-O as I expected. I've only seen his first special so I expected the rest of it to be really bad as well lol. It's good to see how he's developed his act and I will probably actually watch some of it now. Thanks for the vid.
Stand-up comedy is, essentially, a one-man show. It’s just a comedic theatre piece performed by one person, it’s not inherently special or different from other forms of performing arts.
@@kman9884 exactly but people tend to prefer to differentiate classical "joke telling" from other routines with different approaches. Why they need to make this distinction, I don't know lol but it's whatever 😂
Jesus I've cringed so hard merely on you talking about it. Watching the actual thing would have traumatized me... I feel dumber by 3rd hand osmosis. That's deranged.
@BikeThrottleOfficial pretty sure being a junkie who was on the verge of killing himself and had an intervention from the fucking crew of Jackass was the low point
I saw Steveo’s bucket list show live back in 2019. I’m so confused how he’s been doing this for almost 5 years at this point and still promoting it as if it’s new.
Fr, and he had described almost the entire thing across a multitude of podcasts way before it even came out. A lot of build up for a big disappointment.
Hi, @ Beige Frequency - We need an episode of Katt Williams! He has a lot of ups and downs throughout his career! would love to see one perhaps even two episodes about him. Love your work by the way!
Beige frequency is a weak loser. If you enjoy his documentaries have fun being weak and lame. I’m just someone who’s ripped and shredded with massive muscles. Feels good to be me and I hope you enjoy being small and weak and tubby and pathetic 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
So uh…you’re not gonna touch on Steve-o’s “shilling grifter” character arc? He should not get a free pass from you because he reached out to you to promote his special. Guy has completely ruined his reputation, we were all in awe of him in the 00’s. Now, he can’t record something without selling a sticker.
Grifting has a pretty political connotation to it, unless Steve o is doing ads for local politicians I'm not gonna shit on him for doing ads even if they're kind of cringe
Steve-Os great and ive been a fan since I was a kid but he is starting to become like a dude that gets into a MLM. Everything he makes or appears on is riddled with terrible ads for his crappy hot sauce and $5 canned water. He really is mr snake oil salesman at this point, cool it with the constant ads bro hes more billboard than man at this point.
Maan . . . I never seen a steve-o stand up comedy but i love steve-o, kinda had the feeling his stand up would target a special nich, thanks for showing this side
I've never seen any of Steve-O's stuff outside of Jackass but Steve-O low key shitting on Tom Segura makes me think he's grounded and probably a good dude.
i really don’t understand the steveo hate train. yea he does excessive over the top shit and has mediocre comedy specials . he’s funny in convsersatoon n has always seemed like a p humble and respectful guy . ppl just want something to bunch up their panties for em
@@Dot11 That’s fine. I was just saying that those take more talent, while these take merely skill and, with layers unseen to us, are essentially high-level tracing and replication that can be done by many people who have a basic digital paint program understanding, thus not representing the progression the OP was implying. Just my opinion, of course.
Dude that's awesome that The Steve-O himself actually knew and respected you enough to ask for an episode, congrats. Love when I see quality creators get recognized, hopefully this helps your channel grow and maybe gets you more/better connections if that's your thing.
Steve O himself corrects people when they call his acts stand up specials. He calls what he does a multi media experience or some shit. Steve O isn't funny, but at least he's grounded in reality.
watched this fully expecting you to shit on them. Haven't seen any of the specials, but was pleased to hear that you found at least some parts of them enjoyable. will be checking them out soon
With Steve-O doing stand up, or whatever you call his live medium, has me wondering what guys like Bam or Dunn (RIP) couldve done on the stage too. Would love to hear behind the scenes stories from Viva La Bam.
Hype AF for this. Huge Steve-O fan but also haven't seen his standup. I honestly don't expect it to be great but I know if nothing else it's true to his personal self coz that's the kind of man he is.
as much as I like steve-o I lost respect for him from how he has handled the Bam stuff by publicly ridiculing him instead of reaching out and keeping their talks private. As a recovering addict you'd think he'd have a little more tact than publicly dragging a supposed friend who's clearly going through a lot of trouble.
I totally agree. While Bam for sure has his own issues, he is Steve-O's friend. He should know more than anyone that support is needed to get someone out of addiction but instead sits on his high horse and publicly shames him on his podcast. Cut contact if you need to but don't use him for content.
It's fucking disgusting and Steve-O is such a phony. When push came to shove he just revealed himself as another soulless hollywood shill and the pathetic thing about it is that he's like a z list celebrity stepping on the head of his former friends for tiny scraps of credibility.
The fact that Steve-O, who's claim to fame is to do the stupidest, nastiest stunts and injuring himself somehow has had a 20+year career, speaks volumes of where we are at as a society. it's almost unreal to me he's still around
I may not see Steve O as a comic. But he is a really good entertainer. And this format of “showing clips” is perfect for him. With his natural story telling. I’ve watched him since 2007 (when i was 8) and that i still follow his career is crazy and it shows how good he is, because I don’t think i have cared about someones content for that long
I didnt think what he was doing was standup. I thought it was spoken word. Like Henry Rollins and Jello Biafra did for a while. Or those old "A night with Kevin Smith" dvds.
Want to say that I’ve become fond of your videos. Ever since the Brendan Schaub saga, you have really been on a lot of us MMA fans’ radars and you make great quality videos. I hope you’re cooking up something special for your next upload. I can’t wait. I love the longer format of videos because sometimes I like to fall asleep with them playing in the background.
Thank god, I needed a good video to take my Percocet to. Your my favorite individual RU-vidr, and I think more creators should adopt your no BS way of of presenting.
Steve-o being so narcissistic as to ask a RU-vidr like you to make a video on him is fantastic. If you look hard enough you can make a series on this dude.
Steve-O's stand up comedy is not my cup of tea, but like Beige said at the start of the video, he was a huge part of my adolescence, and his sobriety is a major inspiration to many people who have struggled with addiction. He'll always have my respect for that, and for plucking the nostalgia strings in the hearts of millions.
so Steve-O knows what Beige Frequency does, and likely "reached out" to both seem cool and down to Earth (which I really believe he mostly is or seems to be) and avoid the embarrassment of the channel simply dumping one out on him anyway. better to bite or even INVITE the bullet that may come someday, surely. especially if you're not super confident about your skills as a Stand-Up Comedian, all capitalized. it's a truly rare art. as we hopefully realize. [Post-Watch Edit: I'm so very pleased and surprised at Steve-O's ability as a performer - most delightfully, that last special especially. he IS getting better with age. what a world!]
To know Steve-O at least knows of you or watches your content and enjoys your art like we do has to feel like a fan girl moment I would’ve been over the moon, what a guy!
Crazy that Steve-o actually reached out to you for an actual review. Hopefully he was an actual fan of the channel rather than reaching out to whoever with a community would listen.
Yes, definitely the latter. Steve-O is a brand and nothing else. Some of his stunts were pretty funny in the earlier years but that's about it. His comedy or whatever you want to refer it as, is abysmal and not funny. This review is much too light on him. At least for Steve-O fans, he does about 200 podcasts a week so, there's that
Alright, the specials when he talked about his colorful criminal past was hilarious. Reminds me of that one criminal whose crime career alone is a comedy script!
Back in 2011, we drove over half of Europe to see Steve-O life in Stuttgart, Germany. It was clear he caters to fans who know him from Jackass and dont care too much for his particular material and perhaps even fully understand it. At times he also seemed more like the homeless guy at local trainstation that is willing to do anything for a dollar and shock value or stuff a bottle in his asshole just to get attention. Frankly we also thought he looked a lot like fading Ozzy Osbourne back then already - oh how time flies.
