I own a Swatch from 1986 i got for my 22nd birthday from my Grandmother , and the watch is still going strong, As for polishing the crystal try Polly watch works great.

In the UK these swatches are more expensive than the superb Casio's.

40 years ago I was a fan of Kelton, the Swatch from the 70'S. Cheap, well-designed watches with Timex calibers, non serviceable. I still own some, and they still work, despite no maintenance possible. This market is now owned by Swatch with the same qualities. Halas there are only two Swatch stores in whole Belgium: one in Brussels (a city with a worse traffic congestion than Paris) and Antwerpen (same situation), so that if you do not live right in these cities you do not have access to these stores (I live 70 kilometers away from Brussels, but I would need three hours to get there). I have a Big bold irony, the red version. Splendid design, with a reliable ETA caliber, and not too noisy.

Swatch means second watch, swatch irony chrono is good, it uses jewels as bearing of rotating parts, acrylic glass no problemo coz average of vintage watches use acrylic glass. if scratch u can use polywatch and Acrylic is more impact resistant than mineral glass. Swatch can be opened from glass if the movement gets trouble

Very nice review and well thought.Personally my only concerns with swatch are 1) the noise,i keep my swatch on a nightstand and the noise it makes is ridiculous 2) the fact that you cant replace the movement on most of them,i have a 1996 swatch where the movement failed and it is basically garbage now.What i appreciate though is that they are very quirky and fashionable

The Swatch plastic glass is the deal breaker for me. Even a $20 china watch uses mineral glass and don't scratch easily.

Hi, I can buff those scratches out for you. It is easy. It is very easy to change the battery as well. I have many Swatches from the early 1980s and they are all still working perfectly. It may have started out as a disposable watch, but that is not the case. They last forever. I swim in pools, lakes and the ocean with mine, no problem. Swatch may not be for everyone, but there IS a Swatch for everyone. Yes the ticking is pretty wild but you get used to it and it just becomes white noise, the Swatch Tick! :) Besides having so many designs, they also have a club, free to join. I have met some great people from all over the World from the club. And they even send me a gift and a hand written birthday card every year. Who else does that? Plus I get many comments from people when I go to a concert or something and am wearing a wild design. You have to think of it more like "art" that also tells you the time. It was fun to watch your review. Thanks.

I realized with Swatch, your best bet is to get the higher end stainless steel models like the Irony’s. I was a diehard Citizen junkie and had a bit of a brand war with my wife who is a Swatch junkie. I bought her a $500 Citizen and turned out to be an unreliable nightmare. They’re customer service was atrocious and its getting to the point that I just want to throw the damn Citizen in the river and buy her a nice higher end Swatch. Meanwhile my wife has two older Swatches that are still running after 15 years. Needless to say, I lost that war after being extremely frustrated and disappointed with my Citizen experience and got myself a Boxengasse. I love it. It has a good weight to it, its simple, love the way it looks, and Swatches customer service has been excellent with free battery replacements and face polishing at their stores. My only complaint is what this guy said that the screen scratches like nothing. I wish they could make a model thats a tad bit more expensive with a proper scratch resistant screen and I would buy it in a heartbeat. So yes, to answer your question @thehandsontime, they do offer free battery replacement and lens polishing in the Time Square NYC store too which is where I go for mine.

Tells the time as far as I'm concerned. I think there is a tendency these days to overanalyse watches which forgets their basic function - timekeeping
@94jmbottaro

will fail on you after a couple years though. you either change the battery and it will last 6/8 months after that, or spend anotehr 100 euros. you can get some pretty good automatic watches for that price these days that you can pass down to your children. or yea keep wasting plastic and batteries and continue getting quartz watches

Agreed. It's a fun, colourful watch with endless crazy designs. If I want something special, I,ll take one of my higher end watches out of the box. If I want a watch that can resist everything I throw at them, I,ll take one of my G_Shocks. But sometimes, I want something cheap and fun.
@briansaiditsoitmustbetrue4206
I have collected watches for years...The very early examples had better build quality...The new ones are not the best build quality... They are indeed "Disposable" watches. I hate the LOUD "Tick" sound on Swatch watches ... I only have two Swatch watches in my entire watch collection... I think they are very overpriced for the quality of the watch. They are around £70 GBP ..OK so it is not a lot of money when you compare it to the price of a Rolex watch. But even for £70 GBP you can buy a much better quality watch for the same money ..You can buy a Casio G-Shock DW5600 basic model for around the same money... The Casio is a FAR superior watch in every way. Thank you for this video

The plastic on the dial is awful, it scratches so quick, after a few days the watch looks like it has been worn for 1 year, so for me it's trashy on the outside, even if the quartz inside is good. Not worth the money in my opinion they should cost maximum 30euros

Great review although here in America the battery isn’t that hard to get out all you have to use is a American coin called a nickel. I myself am wearing a 1988 swatch model heart break . As for the loud TikTok, I love it and have since 1988 . Thanks for the review

This swatch is still working after 24 years bro, so yeah I guess I'm lucky. Maybe there is a difference in the built of ancient swatch I don't know. But your comment does not make me want to buy another one for sure. That one was offered to me by my father, but that's it, I'm no longer interested of having another. @@thehandsontime when i was a child up to my 18 years thats what my mother would get me for christmas everytime the previous one died. Pure garbage. 60, 80...100 bucks for a disposable cheap plastic watch? Are you kidding me! A cheap Casio is far better than those watches. Sorry guys, but crap is crap, even if it's Swiss made!

@LeChristEstRoi
@LeChristEstRoi 8 месяцев назад
@@thehandsontime Obviously even more. +200 bucks for a piece of disposable plactic (sorry, "bioceramic"!), are you kidding me? I can understand that the well-paid swiss workers (Swatch watches are still swiss made, right!?) raise costs of production, and I'm totally willing to pay more for a product made by respected and well-paid workers, but at one condition: products must meet some basic quality requirements! 60, 80...200... bucks for disposable cheap plastic watches is unacceptable, actually the mere concept of "disposable watches" is unacceptable, but that's another subject...! If you can't make a swiss made cheap but quality quartz watches a la Casio, then do something else! But Swatch isn't the only one to blame here! Why people buy those trashy overpriced watches?

@@thehandsontime The nice thing about Swatch watches is that everyone can replace the battery. You just need a fresh battery and a coin. Takes about half a minute and probable half a dollar. No need to send it away. I wish swapping out batteries were this easy with all quartz watches. My Braun BN0106 for example takes a lot more work to change out it's battery.

swatches from the early 80s still working? Sorry dude I don't buy it. Unless you forgot them in a drawer, and almost never wore them...maybe...but a regularly-worn swatch won't last 4 decades! No way! It will fall apart way before that!
