I was born and raised in Chicago, but after working 12 years in the financial Industry regulating the futures and options markets at the CME/CBOT I decided to pursue my passion fishing professional tournaments and left my full time corporate job. At that point, I moved to Junction City, WI with my wife Sara and two boys Hank and Duke. I've been fishing professionally since 2011 and full-time since 2015. If you find yourself in lake Okeechobee during the month of May go to the hog pen area and find the cleaner water with Lilly pads and swim either one of those worms on the surface and hold on, you're going to see them coming from 30' away. Great video 👍

The plastic head you are talking about for weightless is the Conehead by Halo. Use it all the time in Florida, helps it come through the pads. I have also Wacky rigged a speed worm

Catch 80% of my bass on the speedworm here in FL. Most of the year, i like the larger ones, l like the Zoom Magnum. The Gambler burner worm is my favorite.

I was fishing a lake in the Canadian Kawarthas region last summer. I was fishing a black 7” berkley power worm, Texas rigged. While I was reeling back to the boat, a walleye absolutely smashed it. I continued to swim this worm in many different areas and continued to get bit by walleye, pike and small mouth. Turns out there’s a healthy population of leeches in this particular lake and it’s a major food source. If anyone has a lake near them where leeches are abundant, I’d definitely give this technique a go.

I hadn't fishing in fifteen years and being from Okeechobee county decided one day i wanted to fish again forty-five days straight no bass. I found some zoom speed vibes and all of a sudden I've been catching bass ever sence.

Man I love throwing a speed worm during the summer on Toledo Bend fishing the deep outside clumps of the submerged hydrilla. I find the edge where the grass starts really thinning out and I'll flip a speed worm about 30ft in with a 3/8-1/2oz weight pegged and I'll lift it up the side of a grass clump then let it fall down the other. I've caught a bunch of big fish over the years doing this. I've never really had any luck swimming it like you hear about people doing in Florida but it's probably because I don't stick with it for very long. If I'm going to swim something it's hard for me to put down a jig... LOL

Regular offset worm hook I agree is money w a swim worm , wide gap hooks miss and skin hook so many fish were the round offset is key , great vid Matt good luck in the next derb🇺🇸

It's one of my favorites, it used to be about the only worm I threw, it still works but not like it used to when zoom first invented it, not many ppl knew about it then, that goes to show that the bass do recognize baits!👍

I know it sounds crazy but I just tried putting a 7" Berkley power black/chartreuse tail curly tail worm on a swim bait jig head. My fishing buddy laughed at me... He found out real fast how many nice bass I caught that day...

Hey Matt: Does it matter much if the tail is oriented up, down or sideways? (P.S. To keep the worm from slipping down when pulled through cover, I use a #10 Cabela's swivel (not tied but first eye slipped onto the line before tieing the hook, then second eye slipped over the hook point and up to the offset after first poking the point through the worm end).

I went and caught a bass on a popper within 15 minutes today then spent about a hour getting my 1st bedding bass hooked. Nothing like a weightless hairjig on dropshot to get a fish to commit.

@@MattStefanFishing I swear to Christ. That last bass I was playing with would bite the hair and move it off the bed. One time it put my jig under a limb and I had to get into the water to get my lure unsung. He moved it 4 times without taking the hook. Have you ever encountered one like that

@@MattStefanFishingso I'm in North Dakota and there is only one largemouth lake in hole state, so I'm assuming smaller profile for smallmouth? Other ways to fish it besides top water when you say swim it are u talking like on a swim jig or swimbait head?
