JÄRVFJÄLLET owner here, glad to see it's not just me having issues with this chair. Not only does the headrest cause your head to be forced into a more unneutral forward position, it also has no give at all which makes it like resting my head against a wall. I also experienced the same issue you had where one arm was a little loose (not quite as loose but still loose) as well as one was almost a quarter of an inch higher at the lowest setting than the other arm. The worst part though is the chair base itself, it starts off firm which is great but that doesn't last long. After only 4 months of use at 8-10 hours a day, I am literally sitting on the wood panel below now as the cushion has worn and did not last at all. For reference I'm 5' 9 and only weight 150-160. Feels like sitting on a school bleacher anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour of use. My sit bone is a little more prominent than others so that might be a factor, but even for the average user I feel they would experience the same issue perhaps a few more months down the line. It's a shame because it's a great looking chair and has a very nice design, but it's ruined by cheap materials. I wish I had seen more reviews first before pulling the trigger as it's definitely not worth the $300 I paid for it. It feels more like a chair aimed at casual daily use rather than long sessions of daily use.
Bought UTESPERLARE a few months ago. Overall I'm satisfied with the quality and comfort. Only downside is that after few weeks it started to creak as hell. Noticed that creak was coming from side armrests due to screws rubbing into metal threads. The more you tighten it the more it creaks. Anyway, putting some WD-40 on the screws and deep inside the backrest side threads eliminated noise completely. Probably some universal grease would be better for long time.
Does your utesperlare align? The bottom half and top half I mean. If the blue line aligns from the top to the bottom. Mine doesn't one side is outside the line while the other is inside. Also between the handle and the seat 1 has more room. And if I shake 1 of my handles I can hear a piece moving inside.
In this case I just recomend you to put some rubber washers and loctite blue on the threads. The loctite blue will keep the screws to be tightly screwed and the rubber should dampen the creaks.
Hey all, made a huge mistake here - the jarvfjallet lumbar CAN be adjusted. However, it was at the lowest setting during my testing so still too low for me but might be better for people I’d say 5’9 and taller! Chairs still way too wobbly and cheap for a nearly $300 chair - there are a lot better out there for that price!!!
I think you did not assemble it properly or you have got a defective unit. You also have given a poor approach to the intended way of use. Distance from the seat to the center of back cushion support on lowest is around 15-16cm if anyone is interested. I almost give up on buying after this review but decided to risk it.
in the video (when you complained) it is NOT in the lowest setting also, the tension for the decline works without applying force at 6'3 i love my jarvfjallet on my gaming setup.. would want a second one for my seperate home office, but i'm not sure about leather seating... sadly they stopped the version with cloth seat the new armrests indeed look a little frail compared to my original ones i've now ordered 3 different YT hyped gaming chairs between 300€ and 400€ - all sent back because they are pure trash compared to the jarvfjallet
@@Quarknjaguar I use the same chair with leather seating for 3 months now, It is fine, I use it for around 8-10h every day, no issues...seems pretty durable, no signs of the wear. But I see a wrinkles at front because I put my legs forward and extend seat forward to max so the weight is all on the edge of the seat. It flattens if I rub it, but could show a wear off in like year if I do not change how I sit. I am confident to recommend it to close friends so if that means anything.
I love my Jarvfjallet, I use it as an office chair. The reclining position can be locked into position and the lumbar support does move up & down (a small range though)
Nice video but I have to mention that: 1. In jarvfjallet the seat depth doesnt move only 1 inch as you mentioned and as you show in the video. Obviously you didnt push it that much forward, it has more distance than that. I have tried the chair in Ikea 2. In the matchspel the fact that headrest moves down the way you use it, it is normal. Headrests are not supposed to support the top of the head, they are supposed to support the neck, thats why it moves down the way you use it 3. In Jarvfjallet lumbar support is adjustable and it gets lower than that, it is not in the lower position as you say. From what I see in the video it has more distance to lower. Other than that it is a nice video, perhaps you should try to make videos with taller people as well, because each chair feels different according to the height
hey Antreas, I am not a light man (176 lbs) and I threw my hips forward and tried it multiple times and can't get it to move more? Maybe my chair is defective? As for the headrest, headrests should be diverse. it can be for the neck, but some people prefer it on their head! And for the Jarvfjallet, you are totally correct, but I believe it was in the lowest position. I retried it after smoeone mentioned it and even at lowest position, it's really uncomfortable for me! I think I def made some mistakes, but overall, having tested other chairs in these chairs' price point, I can safely say I'd recommend my other choices!
It's not shown here, but I'm 180cm and absolutely love my IKEA Markus office chair. The price is great and it fits my frame. It probably won't be as great for every height, but I've had mine for several years and it's still going strong.
I was pleased when they anounced these and they weren't your typical gaming chairs, shame about all the glaring flaws they have. Doesn't matter too much for me though as I got the Steelcase Gesture after your video on it and it's great :D
I bought a MATCHSPEL 2 months ago and I am very satisfied with the quality and lumbar support, I am a person with spine issues and I spent about 8-10 hours per day at my desk for work and play, so far it has been outstanding. The adjustable armrests are a godsend.
This is what I was looking for. Have a hip torsion that was worsened by a fall on ice and need to find a chair that supports both the back and arms (figured out not having arm rests really fucks with your back and shoulder muscles). Gonna invest in this as my first proper gaming chair. :)
@@mantax55 add 10 dollars and get the Markus if it's still in stock. I use a Markus and tried the matchspel, it's not bad, basically a cheaper Markus. For $10 more, at least give Markus a try, you might like it better. Armrests are better on Matchspel but there is no reclining pressure adjustment (although the pressure on the reclining mechanism is not that bad unlike Jarvfjallet)
interesting...I just got the Matchspel...but don't have any of the issues you discussed. I'm 5'9- athletic build. My shoulder sit right into the frame and do not touch the metal edges, the reclining tension is fine. I actually lifted my feet up every inch or so of reclining and it held in place with no effort on my end. I think the critical flaw part is a big miss. It's curved to support your neck, not for you to rest the back of your head on. If you adjust it to the right spot, it'll support your neck so your aren't straining it when leaning back. Unless you are going to recline to stare at the ceiling, its a moot point.
I think your Järvfjället review was quite lackluster. First of all, the seat depth adjustment is a bit limited as you say. But it does help someone like me who is 6’2". I find I get good thigh support when pushing the seat all the way out, and reclining to the first stop/position after upright. The headrest is not as bad as you say. I’ve never even been close to it when sitting upright, only when reclining. Which is the wanted effect IMO. The lumbar support pad IS adjustable in height. With a good range too actually. The metal frame is not annoying at all, even if you are tall with broad shoulders like me. All in all, I’m quite happy with my fabric Järvfjället. Definitely the best office chair for the money in Norway where I’m from. I’ve had the leather version with the adjustable armrests too (the one you’re reviewing), but I hated it. The leather is just slippery and annoying. So I returned it, and went back to my white one in fabric :) I’m not trying to be rude. Just giving a different perspective on a quite good budget chair! I’m saying all this as someone who also owns an Embody btw.
Hey I’m totally ok with the different perspective! I def got the the lumbar support wrong. I just resat in it today and my opinion still stands and here’s why: 1. The lumbar can adjust but it’s still too tall for me. I am convinced this chair is for taller people but I didn’t bring friends to test it unfortunately! 2. I still don’t love the lumbar and headrest bc of their flat designs. It prickled my head while sitting up and the lumbar felt frustrating bc it was like I had a block in my spine since it doesn’t have that much give (I have the pleather version, might be different with fabric?) 3. My biggest gripe is still that they don’t offer back tilt ease adjustment and so you rely on self pressure. This chair really does not offer an auto-adjusting tilt mechanism so I constantly found myself straining my thighs to sit in it. I realize that maybe if you’re tall you may not have this issue but you can see when I tilt back, my heels come off the floor, putting a TON of strain on my thighs and super uncomfortable overall. To me, this was the biggest frustration. I’m gonna have some friends over next week who are 6’+. I’ll have them sit in it and Who knows, I may walk back my review in a future video!! Thanks for the different perspective and more than anything, thanks for being respectful. Really appreciate it!!!!
I bought the MATCHSPEL and is really satisfied. The only downside is that it doesn't have a tension control system, but you can lock the chair to any degree you want, and that saves it for me!
Somebody has to explain to me why this self-locking mechanism even exists. Is it from the age of pirates when their ships were tilting a lot and so sadly all their office chairs rolled to the side of the ship? Because I find that the floor where I live is quite consistently flat, and chairs don't tend to move by themselves. They only move when I intend to move them, and in that case I do wish them to roll instead of having to pick up a humongous piece of furniture. 😂
hahahaha love this. I could see one possible application is that if you have kids to accidentally run into your chair...my very expensive desk has gotten scratched up bc my kids keep rolling my very expensive chair into it, which now also has scratches on it...
quite strange matchspel headrest you got there. mine and my brother's both have a very tight height adjustment, so tight we could barely adjust the headrest with both hands. this however help the headrest to stay in place thus nullifying the critical flaw you mentioned
i'm here waiting for the herman miller embody logitech and the cosm chair (which could even never be reviewed) but it's such a must channel for me that i'm thinking of buying an office chair, that i cannot be thankful enough
Really nice video on the new line up. I was really close to getting the Huvudspelare because of the price, like, entered 8 digits of my credit card close but I decided to go to the local ikea to try it out first. I'm so glad I didn't order it. Even at 172cm (5'67) the top or the chair hit the back of my head like a brick and the armrests are really inconsequential. Hope people will see this video before making the same mistake I almost did
Thanks for the review of ikea chairs, going to look at ur channels for other chairs. Almost bought the ikea gaming chair as they are cheaper than other gaming chairs.
Nice video. Wish i saw this earlier. I just bought the jarvfjallet 2 days ago and manage to return it. I should sit on it for a longer time when i was at the show room. Overall its not a bad chair but doesnt fit to me. The cusion is abit firm, hard to sit on it for more than an hour. Also when you recline. The sit doesnt recline as well. Basically you’re putting alot of pressure on your upper butt and lower back. The back is tall which is good for me since im 6’3 but the lumbar support is bad. You can move it up n down but probably only for an inch, its useless cuz it never hit to the spot where i feel comfortable and its really stiff, more like a lumbar attack. My suggestion is that always sit on the chair for more than 20 mins in different postures if you are able to test them.
I was getting ready to order the Haworth Fern, but now that I know you're getting one soon I feel like I should wait for your review. Hope it comes up very soon!
Just tried these chairs today and they are indeed not that great. Markus from Ikea (leather version) on the other hand has served me well for the past 10 years and I have yet to come across a better chair.
Utespelare is super ergonomic and supportive for me, I'm 5'10. It looks stylish and the lumbar support is absolutely necessary and great for hours of sitting. I love it. The arm rests are basically pointless though, my elbows are like 6 inches higher than the rests.
Too bad I didn't watch your video before my purchase of Matchspel chair. I just disassembled it and I'm returning it to Ikea today. This chair is a disaster for short people, the front part is leaning you towards the ground, the back support is pushing you towards and there just not enough pad at the front to support your legs. Also, the chair is in general a few cm higher than others, so if you have a lower office desk like I do, you'll feel like being elevated. Ikea is great, but their chairs are not the best option. At least not for me.
Your videos are RAD! You saved me to buy Matchspel haha! which one to buy now, I have my eyes on Mfavour (seem like Mfavour is available here but it's a different models than yours) , OR KERDOM Ergonomics, what do you think?
I bought the JÄRVFJÄLLET a year ago - in gunnared grey. It seems like they changed it up a bit, because my back rest pillow IS adjustable. I usually leave it at the lowest setting, because it's uncomfortable and digs into my back if I pull it upwards. I'm about 183cm / 6 feet tall. Overall I'm satisfied with the chair. I was curious to see how it compared to these newer options.
U earned yourself a new subscriber. I literally LOL at some parts which i thought it was pure pun. In the end it's just nice fancy pants names with no substance for the chairs.
Well, if you have a option you better try those chairs by yourself. Chairs are really subjective to sit on, every BUTT is different and what doesn't suit Dan might suit you. I have simillar weight and height as Dan and I found HUVUDSPELARE comfortable.
It would help if you reviewed other budget options like the Staples Dexley Chair. I found your channel very informative since I’m hunting for the best bang for my buck chair.
So as a goof i sat down on one of their chairs and it was unmarked so i don't know what one it was and it was, i have a fecked up spine and it was perfect for my spine. Now my goal is to figure out what chair it was by the only metric i remember, aka how far it went back
self locking casters are the worst invention ever! its like emission norms in cars. just makes absolutely no sense at all. the first thing i changed on my utelspelare. its like they said no! you wont move the chair around, there is no need. if you need to get it from a room to room, either sit down and take half an hour to get there, or hoist it over your head and scratch it on every door frame in the house :D
I'm considering buying JÄRVFJÄLLET and got the chance to try it out today at IKEA. Now, I realize this test is over a year now and perhaps IKEA have done some adjustments since you did the test but there are a couple of things I can't help feeling a bit confused about. First off, are you sure that the "seat adjustment" you mention is "a joke" due to the mere "one inch" slide capability? Cause when I tested it, I would say your able to slide several "inches", in fact (I'm not too familiar with US metrics but I'd say closer to 6-7 cm at least). Then you mention "your feet will slide off" the star base of the chair. I don't get it. Why do you want to put the feet on the star base? It's not meant to have feet on it! Well, It's not a design flaw as I see it anyway. Then you mention "you really don't like" having to use your legs to be able to push the chair backwards. I don't know if this is due to the test object you received or some ergonomic uniqueness on your part, but no IKEA chair I've owned or tested in the store today had that kind of issue. You lean - chair follows. That's it! No leg push needed. Traditional gaming chairs, on the other hand, I agree, have this issue. Then we have the head rest. Perhaps, I'm prepared to meet you half way here. Yes, the head rest may push your head forward a bit, but you don't really use it when gaming or doing office work anyway! How do you sit by the office table? I don't understand how it "gets in the way", as you say. I usually only use a head rest when watching films or doing more relaxed activities. I'm very happy to find a head rest on a chair in this price class, considering the rest of the features. That said, some sort of tilt would perhaps been preferred but not at the expanse of a (large) price increase. The lumbar has already been mentioned here and although I haven't got the chance to use the chair for a long time, as far as I could feel, it seems well positioned and flexible. Some things I do agree on though. The arm rests do feel a bit to cheap and plastic. I'm sure they'll do their work if mounted properly but, otherwise, you can always remove them. Or perhaps replace them (hopefully without losing the warranty). The ones I tested weren't lose but rather too easy to adjust. You barely needed to touch the things in order to change the positions. In the end, you mentioned that there are better chairs in this price class but I failed to see witch ones. Perhaps you could clarify that for me, if you please? For reference I'm 170 cm (5'58'') and around 76 kg (167 lb).
I bought the cheapest of these options back around a month ago despite your lack of recommendation It's pretty comfy, decent back support, I love the tilt feature! As someone who's 5'11 while the head rest obviously isn't right there to lay your head back & enjoy like premium offerings it's as just the right spot that I can lay my head back & have some support
I love the Jarvfjallet, I've tried it out in store and am addicted because it is the only office chair I have ever sat in that is tall enough for my head. Sadly it has been out of stock for months at all of the Ikea's near me. It also looks like it is being discontinued for some reason. Such a bummer.
4:05 "This chair is still design for relatively short people, but on the taller end of the short scale. (...) I think it's gonna be better for people who are about 5 9 to 5 11" So 5 11 is short ? Uh ok.
The castor are by default hard castors, meaning it’s for soft ground, like carpet. U should see the diff when u roll it in carpet. For hard surfaces, ikea should have given a soft castors option which I dun think they have anyways. HM, Haworth, Knoll, SC all have this options and trust me, your laminate wooden floor will love you a lot with soft xastors
Hi, thanks for doing this review. These new "gaming chairs" just dropped so I was happy to see someone already did a review on them. Definitely liking this video. One question though that isn't related to the subject matter of this video, you mentioned that you have an IKEA couch that you really like. May I ask which one it is?
How?? The backrest in the järvfjället is adjustable ?!!!!! Away from this, I've the järvfjället, and the seat goes forward more than yours, but the issue here is that the seat is not stable it has been 1 month since I bought it and when I just sit a little bit lift, a little bit right or even on its edge, I feel like I'm about to fall. Also, my armrests aren't adjustable!
I tried the Matchspell and Jarfvjallet today. The second's one seat adjustment by a few centimenters is to fix the 'issue' presented by you as the headrest being in front of headrest, thus it was never intended to be a true seat adjustment feature.
Hey ! I’m 6 foots tall and the Huvudspelare is the most confortable chair ever for me. I dont feel any metal edge. The curve for the back fit me perfectly! I spray paint the arm chair cause the red is not for me. I just wanted to say that is hard to say that is uncomfortable for any body. Thanks for the video
hahaah ohgod, when you said swedish and german are similar, no they're not! It did feel like as the review went on, you did pronounce it better and better, but maybe I just got used to it. but you did pronounce järvfjället really well !! thanks for the review.
I'd recommend the "Hattefjäll" if you want an Ikea office-chair. It's their top non-gaming chair, which I tried today at my local Ikea against their two top gaming-chairs ("Matchspel" and "Gruppspel"). The non-gaming one felt the most comfortable and sturdy to me - it doesn't come with a headrest, which doesn't bother me but might be a no-go for some people.
Great review, Dan. I was considering the Huvudspelare but now I will continue to look for alternatives. However I dont agree with your assessment of the self locking casters. I have an ikea chair with these and for me the logical design would have been locking (or at least semi-locking) when you sit down and unlocked when you stand up. When I am at my desk, any leaning forward and the chair tries to push away from the desk, which for me is very annoying.
11:30 I just bought a MATCHSPEL (which I really like) and I don't have this problem at all. Everything is fixed and stays in place, maybe you got a default on your chair.
Bought the JÄRVFJÄLLET a year ago. I work from home so I use it a lot. And today I’m going to get a new better chair. My neck and shoulders constantly hurt as it forces your head kinda forward as he says. The cushion is also not comfortable at all. It also lacks lower back support. The ONLY advantage of this chair is that my cats weren’t able to destroy it even though they tried. It’s a hard pass, y’all! Trust me!
i cant find a chair that also adjusts to such tall height as the matchspel so i think i'll still go with it even though im technically too tall for it.. there's also the GRUPPSPEL chair that they added with a similar design
