Are The New Re Zero Season 3 Designs Bad or Actually Good? 

The only thing I can complain about here are Subaru's and Reinhard's eyes not being as sharp as they used to be.

When I First I Saw The Trailer I Did See Changes To The Characters Designs 1. They Updated Their Looks 2. They Brighten Up The Color Contrast 3. The Designs Are Actually Line Up In The Light Novels.

That thumbnail, the disrespect towards Beako XD A shame the VA of Sirius is different from Fortuna, or else this would be a mind blast

Come on this is such a silly thing to get mad about, the characters still look like the characters, and I'm just happy we are getting more of the show.

I think it's going to be a lot like Frieren. At first watching it I noticed how round the faces are compared to other animes. But then I got used to it and barely noticed. People will forget the redesign even happened.

This Season 3 character design appears to be a closer reflection of the light novel character design. In fact, I personally believe that sharper designs are better than cute illustrations in light novels.

I've been waiting so long for this confirmation too. If we saw her eyes it would be confirmed and it is. Also Sirius' introduction in the series is the best villain intro I have ever read or seen. I was fucking mindblown. I really hope they can do this scene justice

You should've let us know about potential spoilers in context of Fortuna from the beginning of the video like you did with the Nanahoshi one. Some would like to come up with this on their own

I personally don’t mind. But to me, the designs in the new season are fantastic. The backgrounds and compositing, with the exception of Sirius’ fire in some moments, are spectacular. I’m really excited for this season. Spoiler (HYPED ASFFF FOR THE REGULUS SHOWDOWN AND KURGAN FIGHT 🤑🥵👹)

Additionally, Sirius is seemingly an elf due to her ears resembling one, further supporting that Surius = Fortuna. But one flaw to this theory is that her voice actor and Fortuna's are different. But it could put as due to the passing time, insanity, or something, which caused her voice to slightly change. Anyways, this is a relatively old theory now and I'm glad it's been brought up again, we'll see how this goes. Elsa's facial design is indeed quite different but she won't be appearing much in s3 so it doesn't matter that much. Although the faces in s3 resemble the roundness of that of the LN, their body is the same type from the OG anime art style or, should I say, thicc, when compared to the LN as over there, the characters are quite skinny. This makes the s3 art style slightly weird because it is essentially a combination of the LN head, with the anime body. I still like it though. Subaru's ear has been upgraded tho lmao. The border lines of the characters' drawing is thinner, which makes the look cleaner tbh. But the change I like the most is the Emilia buff, if y'know what I mean 😏

I don't think the correct term is "rounder" It's that the faces are wider and the eyes are more pointed downward at the outer edge

I absolutely adore the redesign. First of all, the ear shading. Not to say that by itself is why it's better, but it reflects that the animators are gonna put way more effort on the characters faces and facial expressions. And from what I've seen in the trailer, I think that it's panning out to be really good. P.S. I like how you completely avoided mentioning the "Assets" upgrades.

A lot of them aren't really noticeable, but from worst to least worst, it's Elsa, Beatrice, Subaru and Reinhard. Elsa looks like a shorter 15 y/o version of her previous look and that's gonna take quite a bit away from the deliverence of her scenes for me. Subaru and Reinhard probably wouldn't be that noticeable in the anime but Beatrice would definitely be with that new airport of hers. I know how childish some characters look in almost all the artworks outside of the anime but personally, characters not looking mature is just a plain minus in a show like this with a lot of gory and psychological themes.

The designs are actually such an improvement they look more similar to the Ln artstyle . Not to mention the characters like Ana and Felt look even prettier than before

I think season 1 will always just have the most charming look Season 3 has the most accurate LN design But I like how Season 1 was just poster and wallpaper material to the Max Look at Frederica's design in Season 1 She's only shown in a flashback but she looks great

I never understand the design complaints. I never notice rhe differences until people compare pic with pic, bmcuz they always seem the same to me. I didn't see the difference between 1 and 2 and I barely understand it between 2 and 3 What I'm trying to say is.....JoJo's are more drastic 😂

Elsa and Subaru look worse IMO, some of the changes are fine but these two are too egregious, especially since subaru is the MC we'll see him a lot. Elsa looked milfy before and it was great now she looks like she has a chromosome extra IMO S1 design > S3 design > S2 designs

Generally the art style is softer and rounder, got rid of a lot of hard edges, and some characters had their eyes spaced slightly further apart I think.

I kinda liked season 2’s more but I think it’s better this way honestly I think once I see season 3 and how it actually looks animated I’ll prefer the new style more

It's a mixed bag like you said. Some are straight up better and others I sort of prefer the old style (especially Reinhard). Elsa looks good imo, but every single character has fatter cheeks now which is a little weird

I feel the opposite. It's strange that there has been a time skip and Subaru, Petra, and Frederica look younger than before. Wilhelm looking softer makes a lot more sense with his character development in season 1.

Looks on par with season 1 art style imo which I like very much Im very pleased.

The best one was and always be the season 1 design, this is where most of us saw subaru for the first and got attached to him, season 3 design is far superior than season 2 design obviously, but I wish they could stay consistent and stop changing the MC's face.

I think they should had changed some and not others, to make each character look more unique instead of feeling like old anime trope of "just two faces."

The only one that really bothers me is Erza, i wish they didn't change her body and face proportions so much

About Elsa's design. I don't see why people care that much. This is a minor LN spoiler, though it's not too unpredictable: . . . . She's definitely dead. She should only appear in flashbacks, and unless I'm misremembering tremendously, she shouldn't appear in season 3 at all. I don't know why she even has a design. Are they adapting Corridor of Memories? Like, even then she should only be in like 1 flashback.

ngl I think character design changes are something people only discuss when they have nothing better to do. The question is - how it will improve the anime and that's something we aren't able to predict since we haven't seen it. I agree on Subaru's design change - i liked his sharp eyes, but I don't know if it will make any difference while i watch the show.

Its just better and they fixed everything they did "wrong" before, to me it just feels like they start to really take re zero seriously. I can understand that changes to character designs can be jarring but how they are now is what they always where supposed to look like art style wise. It sucks for the continuity but it needed to happen in my opinion.

i dont like that they rounded out garfiel and subaru's sharp eyes, but overall i think these designs look more polished and i am happy that we are getting rid of the under eye line. ive never been a fan of that in anime

The new ones are fine, but I think the older ones look a little more realistic if that makes sense. I think it depends on how they animate it because Re:Zero always went into detail with facial expressions, I feel like the more moe-cartoony look might make those expressions look uncanny. Idk though, have to wait and see.

Yeah, they kind of started off the latest trailer with a bit of almost spoiler content but I think it is more of a cliffhanger type reveal. I say that because anime only people will probably see it that way.

Honestly i dont mind all the changes, if they all are closer to what Teppei had them designed as, then im fine with it.

I know the VA's are different for Sirius and Fortuna but the performances for the voice are just so similar. Seriously, pull up two tabs and do a side-by-side comparison. Sirius is a little higher in pitch but that's usually expected of someone gone mad. they just sound so damn similar. As for the debate on the design changes. It is fairly obvious that they are mimicking Otsuka's style (the LN illustrator) and he tends toward a more cutesy, round look (or very sexy) which I don't have a problem with, as long as they don't copy the way Otsuka draws buff guys(they tend to be really skinny). I'm perfectly fine with it personally, I can understand if some don't like it though. its kinda funny though that everyone harps on Elsa when she's dead, we watch her get crushed by a hippo.

As an artist yeah elsa's face looks cooked, her lips basically on her chin lmfao

The faces definitely have thicker cheeks, and it makes a lot of them cuter, but a lot of cool people look less cool.

I actually love BOTH of Elsa's designs, but I can recognize that the personality exuded is drastically different. In a bubble, I love the redesign, but as to how it fits into an existing character and story... ehh, it clashes a little in my opinion.

I like 90% of the re-designs especially Subaru's.
