I purchased one recently based on this review. I had always loved the look and sound and finally but the bullet. My mate tried it and he ordered one as well
@@JasonWharton82thought I would give an update. Stil love the guitar but the bridge started to sink on one side and then it lost stability. Had my tech do a macgyver job and it plays better than ever
This demo was an important reason that I got that model a few days ago. Great work! A lovely value for money guitar and my first Jazzmaster. I'm really happy with it.
Awesome! I traded mine in recently as I was downsizing the collection and turning it into one really high end guitar but I stand by this vid, the guitar was excellent!
I really appreciate the review on this guitar. Very honest review. You’re absolutely right about a lot of things, especially how sometimes guitars can come out of the stores/factory with a basic setup which, like you stated, if you don’t have the ability or knowledge to fix the small issues it will affect playability and possibly the desire to play because one would think the player is bad. That being said, sometimes the less expensive guitars can sound and play better than the American series.
The tone is absolutely great. Wow. Obviously, your fingers have much to do with that, but certainly the pickups and other components must not be complete trash! I’ve been looking at these, for some time now. Thank you for guiding my eventual purchase!
Thanks, really appreciate the kind words! I was playing this guitar today and was struck by just how good it sounds and plays, it had been a while since I plugged it in last. Still have felt no need to make any changes so far.
I've used stiff green Scotchbrite pads leftover from my Alfa Romeo body job on the necks of all my Fenders and it's a far more consistent finish removal than sandpaper or steel wool. I think I'm gonna get one of these too, although the Squier 40th Anniversary JM in Lake Placid blue is also pretty dang appealing. It looks to be the same guitar but with gold hardware, adonized pickguard, and without the matching headstock.
Got the CME addition walnut with black inlay 🤘 I recommend everyone get this axe you won't be disappointed.😃 Only thing is that CME version and this blue beauty is sold out but not to worry more. Should be coming early next year. Awesome guitar. Awesome review. Keep rocking 😎🎸👍
Hey, I want to put a set of 11s on this guitar and wondering what did you use to get the nut slots wider. A set of those crazy expensive luthier files? Something more home-made? I don't really have a luthier in my area and I'm considering my options...
I went full ghetto and just wrapped some fine wet and dry around the off cut of the string gauge I was going to be using….. I would not recommend this but for me it did the job.
@@JasonWharton82 Thanks, really appreciate the info! Still not sure whether to proceed with this but good knowing it worked for you. On another note, a great review and sweet playing man! I think I was more overall positive on the guitar but definitely agree on all your points. Maybe it's because it's my most expensive/nicest guitar yet and all the offset forums mentally prepared me for the botched set up hahaha
Haha! Yeah offsets need a special kinda love to get them playing right! Fender are really knocking it out of the park with quality for the price point though.
It's not a jaguar, i repeat, it's not a jaguar. The Jazzmaster is to bright for me by design. It seems like a nice solid option for that offset style though, looks pretty cool too
Probably not. Jazzmasters can be a bit sketchy. You're lucky to find a good one, even American made. You'd have to play 20 and pick the best one. I assume this is because Fender (and Squire) make more Strats and even Telecasters, so they have become better at making those models and never quite perfected the lesser selling models in their line. I'd take my chances on a Mustang before a Jazzmaster because a Mus is the go-to short scale guitar, so they are forced to make them more acceptable quality wise.
They all have very similar construction methods though, a cnc’d body with a bolt on neck, I can’t honestly see how their approach would be much different. The main difference is bridge and vibrato, a little understanding of how these are meant to be set up go a long way to making one play very well.
@JasonWharton82 On the more popular budget models, they get more feedback and make changes to everything even the electronics. That's why the classic vibe Stratocaster is so good and the classic vibe Bass VI is absolute trash.
I don’t think you’re gonna like this video 😂. I have quite a lot of nice things to say about this guitar, it’s not all good though, I can see that if someone bought one and it wasn’t set up right why it could feel like a crap guitar, this needed a lot of set up work to make it right. I’m playing it right now and honestly, it’s really great.
Jags and Jazz are insanely popular now. I remember wanting one in the early 00s but it being way out of my price range. Ended up buying one in the 2010s, and the support for them had improved, there were more resources for improving its quirks. Fast forward to the present day, and now every indie band and RU-vidr has one. Local guitar techs are now familiar with setting them up.
Hey man, I’m thinking of getting this jazzmaster. Now that it’s a month later, how do you like it so far? Would you recommend it This guy on reverb put a Staytrem bridge and vibrato on it, selling it for $750. Is that deal worth or not at all? Thanks
Still have it and still really like it. I thought about doing the bridge and vibrato upgrades but maybe I got lucky with this one, the stock Squier ones work great, only issue with the system is that the vibrato arm causes a lot of vibration that’s noticeable unplugged but not when running through an amp so much. With the arm out the vibration goes away. Pickups might be the thing I go for first, having lived with it a little longer and got used to it, they can sound a little brittle, they also suffer from interference quite bad, I managed to pick up whatever the neighbour was listening to/watching through my amp 😂. But overall well worth the money IMO.
@@JasonWharton82 appreciate the fast reply bro, I’m glad you still like it even with it’s small issues that seem to be fixable. Crazy how the $750 upgraded one I was talking about sold between my first comment and this one, just 30 minutes ago haha. That just proves to me this guitar is well worth its money, even without those upgrades so I’m buying it this Monday 👍🏼
