Are the Super Turrican SNES Games Worth Playing Today? - SNESdrunk 

Super Turrican rules! This game started my game music career - I played Super Turrican in 1995, beat it (difficulty is very easy on ST1), then read the snail mail address of the development team (Factor 5) in the credits. I gave them a phone call and asked for Chris Hülsbecks address & phone number, then I sent a demo tape which I made to Chris. Then I was invited into Chris' music studio, we became friends and worked on the first game projects in 1996! We're still working on game projects together. Great review video! Cheers, Rapture

Rendering Ranger was designed by Manfred Trenz, the original creator of Turrican. That's why they are so similar. He also made the NES game entirely alone, except for the music. If you ever cover the NES game, make sure you also try out the Super Turrican Plus romhack that fixes some of the issues. Wish the SNES had got some ports of the originals.

I actually enjoy Super Turrican 2 more than the first one. There’s more gameplay variety, and the music is very atmospheric. I also like that the level design is straight-forward opposed to the open-ended structure of the original. It’s challenging, but fun, and never too frustrating. It’s a shame it’s so under-appreciated, because it’s a great game despite the ridiculous prices it goes for on eBay.

Really looking forward to playing space station silicon valley, which was the last video I saw from you. I enjoy games that go off the spectrum and don't cater to the mainstream genres of video gaming.

One of the very rare successful video game franchises coming from Germany. I was always a fan of the great synthy soundtrack of Chris Hülsbeck. Unfortunately, Factor 5 didn't continue to publish original content, but porting games for the big players like Lucas Arts instead. They also ported some of the Contra/Probotector games, which of course is a perfect fit! Still, I'm a bit sad that they hardly were able to live up to their full potential, since they obviously had enough talent to howl with the big dogs.

The price of Super Turrican 2 is insanely high.

Super Turrican is fun, but it seems more frustrating than it should be. Supposedly, it was supposed to be a larger game, but the developers were only allowed a 4MB cart, and I can't help but feel like something is missing. Super Turrican 2 is so much darker and more ambitious than any other game in the series, it's ridiculously fun and challenging. It reminds me of Thunder Force IV/Lightening Force in that regard, plus it pushes it's respective system to its very limits.

For anyone who enjoys both of these, should also definitely check out Mega Turrican, it has alot more boss fights over Super, more levels too if I'm not mistaken and of course you get the resolution bump so you can see more around you in the game.

You know what was awesome? Turrican 1 and 2 on the c64. I loved those as a kid

fun fact about the nes game - it was developed entirely by a single person, Manfred Trenz (the guy who created the series!) despite its grave faults its a very well-built game and is a lot of fun once you get past the initial learning curve.

The soundtrack brings me so many memories! I loved this game back in the 90's.

The graphics and sound of ST2 are so good. How did they manage to simulate render sequences on a Super Nintendo? Even over 25 years later it still looks good.

You didn't mention the GameBoy port of Turrican. I owned that, and the opening theme was one of the most memorable pieces of 8-bit music I ever heard. Tough game, though, especially for a kid- the open-ended levels resulted in me getting really badly lost around about level 4 or so, and I never finished it. Plus the complete lack of hitstun was a real nuisance, since you'd die _really_ fast if you came into contact with a damage source like a spike.

Seriously, Super Turrican 2 is one of the most criminally underrated games published by Ocean.

You think the jumping is problematic on SNES, try playing this game on Amiga like I did, where you have to press UP on the joystick to jump due to all joysticks only having one button (even when they physically had more).

I'm thinking about pulling the trigger today and spending $450 USD on a mint copy which includes the manual in good condition too. Just trying to complete the full library of SNES and this is one of the few games I'm missing, that and Aero Fighters of course, which ill probably never get because its costs over 2 grand, lol

I never thought much about the 2nd game, I like the first one alot more and felt that one was lesser and traded it for quick cash back when it was just a 60 dollar game. Now it goes for over 300. The only game I feel sad about trading back in the day :(

Super Turrican is very pretty, but feels undercooked imo. The sequel is far better, and insanely difficult. I remember renting it from the video place in Albertsons. Good times.

The fans might kill me but I liked the SNES Turrican more than the Amiga Turricans. All had great music. By the way, you can shoot upwards by holding the fire button (if I remember correctly), but I think you can't move at the same time. This might sound like a problem, but it really isn't, at least it wasn't for me.

This game, i´m not sure if this came before or after "universal soldier", but one is VERY inspired on other, you must see for yourself to believe me... ever the "morf ball", is exactly the same, bombs with no speed control . (US is good too).

I will try to beat this game in March when my Super NT ships.

Metal Slug is one of the best run and gun games for sure to play with 2 people. It has this mecha thing also going on were you can get into and shoot various kinds of bullets too and bombing the hell out of everything on the screen. Never pressed my fingers and thumbs that hard and fast on these games than any others. :) Turrican is decent, but it is actually an average game if you compare it to the other smups on the snes games. (I can compare this to aliens actually or any mediocre platform game with some shooting in it also like Plok) Mega Man X is the clear winner for these kind of platform games.

super turrican games 2...simple game but still hard to play...i always fail level 2...my highest stage was stage 3...then dead,,,

Of course you can fire in all directions! Holding the fire button results in a beam which you can control with left/ right moving clockwise/ anticlockwise. That beam was implemented in all Turrican games since the 1st one on the Amiga. Also, you mispronounced Turrican.

Turrican II on Amiga is amazing

the first game is certainly better... better music, much better sound effects, and an emphasis on exploration... the second game is too gimmicky with it;s mediocre vehicle levels, the only improvement is the grappling arm but it lacks in every other way to the first game... hopefully the Director's Cut ROM of the first game surfaces
