@@RussianTravels I've used that phrase "like coming home" to people here, long before seeing your video, BTW. The other way i express it is that "Mother Russia took me to herself". You thanked God for bringing you to Russia, and rightly so. I'm still at the "please get me there!" stage.

Hi Martin so pleased to hear a British guy living in Russia...At the the moment I'm a British guy who's married to a Russian woman living in Austria. We plan to move to Saint Petersburg in a few years time.I totally agree with everything you say about the people of Russia & I'll add to that the Russian nature & landscabe is beautiful,the Russian culture & traditions are amazing & the people there are simply wonderful.

In my experience (of having Russian friends) is there is much more in common, than there is different. They are, on the whole, educated, literate, hard-working, friendly and loyal. They have a deep understanding of history and are far more informed about world events than say the average Brit is. Myself, I think you have lucked out, not only to find a beautiful Russian wife, but also to make the move to somewhere where your children can thrive and grow up being children, and not constantly being pushed weird adult agendas. I predict in a decade or so you will look back and wonder what took you so long. Делу время, потехе час.

Normal people (that leaves out most western politicians, lol) are mostly the same everywhere. Russia felt more like home to me on my several visits than Australia has for a very long time, that is why I am moving there very soon to be with my beautiful wife.

My colleague just visited several cities in Europe and said the same - people everywhere are the same. He doesn't speak any foreign languages by the way, so his opinion is based pretty much on observations and instinct. :) By the way, nice rental, including the garden. ❤

I have an English friend who lives in Colchester. Quite a few years ago we've had a conversation about Russians and Englishmen. He told me then that Russians are much closer to Englishmen than Americans. I was surprised then. Hard to believe we can build up good relationship with UK🙄

As you said, people are just people. Everywhere. Even in the US. After many decades here I can tell you that Americans are no different. Once they get to know their neighbors they accept you beyond borders. In Florida our neighbor gave us a code # to her home so we can open the door with our 📱, and in Virginia where we have another home the neighbor gave us the key of her house. Both expressed hope we will be there for them in a case they need us. If you ask for help, to be driven somewhere, borrow tools, to carry something heavy into the house they are always happy to do it. There are a lot of problems now in America but its people are not that.❤

According to information as of May 19, more than 543 thousand applications for compensation were received from flood-affected residents in the Orenburg region. Payments were approved for 275.5 thousand applications. 150.5 thousand people were denied because of incorrect applications or those whose houses were not in the flood zone. In total, the region has already paid compensations totaling more than 6 billion rubles

Yes there pockets in England that are the same, going back in 2016 I moved house, I had neighbours who I didn’t know by name help me move in. Got invited in at Christmas, I live alone and no relatives anywhere near me. In 2017 I was diagnosed with cancer, surgery, chemo. I had neighbours who took me to scans, called in during chemo, if no one had seen me for a couple of days they either texted me, or knocked on the door. Every year since I still get invited to Christmas, or to go to football, or garden parties. During lockdown we held a socially distanced street party. You probably know going back to your childhood, kids played in the street, safe. Today sadly that is not the case in UK. There are no values, too much drugs, crime, and values have gone. When you have religious leaders here promoting same sex relationships, and even promoting sex with kids.

I've known a couple guys from London and Scotland. They lived here in Moscow while they had a college or job. We meet since we sharing same interest in uk electronic music scene. Had a blast time with each other for 2 years straight, such a great guys, miss them a lot. We are still somewhat connected. More over, when the shit hited the fan, i cant remember any music producer or dj from that particular music scene back in UK, who turn his back on us just because we are russians, even if we does not met in person. We are still sending dubs to each others, our guys get released on uk labels. So yes, the main problem is the distance and burocracy, but once we meet, often we don’t even need a language to communicate in order to understand that we are not much different. A dj will always understood a dj, same with farmer, mechanic, programmer and so on! Glad to see that you guys still have interest to explore Russia despite cancel culture. I admire your courage, Best wishes to you and your family!

Glad you're in a good mood, Martyn. In previous videos, you have talked about how you have no idea how much the compensation might be. Today I read the resolution of the government of the Orenburg region dated May 4, 2024 № 409-PP "On providing payments for capital repairs to citizens whose residential premises were damaged as a result of floods in 2024". So it is written there that the amount of payment is calculated based on the total area of the damaged residential premises and the cost of capital repair of 1 square meter, which is 7 thousand rubles. That is, as I understand it, you multiply the area of your house by 7000 - this is the amount of compensation. Perhaps Julia has already familiarized herself with this decree, if not, then do it. It does not say anything about housing that cannot be restored, but earlier in such cases victims were given a housing certificate to purchase a new home

Very interesting thoughts. These are the thoughts that everyone who has lived in different places or at least traveled a lot comes to. I think that at some point the people of the Earth will come to realize that we are all very similar. And always have been. As long as we think differently, it's easy to pit us against each other and turn us negatively against each other. Divide and conquer. Очень интересные мысли. Мартин, вашей семье сейчас не легко, но только работа дает настроение. Как бы вам не было горько сейчас, продолжайте вашу работу над восстановлением дома. Через 3 месяца результат вас будет радовать! Ваше состояние получше, но вы еще конечно немного удрученный. Да, люди везде одинаковые. Нас разделяют только придуманные границы и языки. Отбросьте сомнения, разговаривайте на русском как можете и используйте переводчик, он есть в телефоне. Не стесняйтесь просить помощи у соседей и людей(попросить инструмент, совет и прочее. Потому что именно это сближает. Это как в детстве поделиться игрушкой, возникают общие темы и интересы)

I think English are more closer to Russians than to Irish where I live, except for history. English are more like Russians, understand similar jokes, like to joke about anything. Irish accents are very difficult but for me I miss Irish accent when I do not hear it for long because it feels homy to me when I don't hear it for a long time.

The history of England and Russia is much deeper than most people think, the daughter of the last Anglo-Saxon King Harold Godwinson “Gytha of Wessex” married to the Grand Prince of Rus Vladimir Monomakh, one of their son Prince Yuri Dogolrukiy founded the city of Moscow. So pretty much every Russian princes and Tsars afterwards carried the bloodline of Gytha of Wessex. Russia and England could be good friends without the interference of NATO.

Yes, I do agree that in basic things all people are the same. When I lived in the UK I made a lot of friends, my neighbours were great and welcoming. The only thing I felt, all the bonds between people were not as deep as I was used to. It was more formal I'd say. And time to time I felt like people couldn't care less. Speaking about famous Western people's smiles? It's just formal as well. So surely there're mentality differences

Exactly, yes we are humans and have lots in common- but Russians are very different from English - there is not bs pretence in Russians, they are definitely kinder and more hospitable- and when I see foreign bloggers moving to Russia- they mainly do that for materialistic reasons -there is a possibility that they may start to appreciate the country for other reasons too- but common - when I start seeing them actively defending and/or helping our army to fight their own kind (there are lots of British now fighting against Russia) then I believe them - but for now - it’s just a way to raise funds for their own needs - simple reason.

Нужно администрации заняться решением проблемы, чтобы в будущем не было такого урона от наводнений. Строит водоканалы,озера,пруды,водохранища которые потом могут использоваться в орошении полей,тущении пожаров,для разведения рыб. Это обойдется государстве дешевле чем устранения последствий наводнения.

А я всё время думаю о том, что практически каждый метр нашей земли полит потом и кровью её защитников во все времена. И сейчас нам предстоит снова сохранить её для потомков. И у меня всегда возникает вопрос: зачем пытаться захватить нашу землю, если можно приехать и стать частью нашего общества? Вот, как Мартин это сделал.

As for me, London was the first city I visited back than in 1990s when a 23 yo. 🎉 … I contacted with many people since , I think that the main difference between English people and Russians is that it takes more time to get into British heart. я еще проще отношусь к этому вопросу. вся разница между людьми лишь в языках на которых они говорят. человеческая плоть одинаково уязвима, человеческая кровь одинаково течет, человеческая боль и страдания одинаковы, люди одинаковы смертны. счастье вот да может бы разным , но оно не так уж важно. Если мы одинаковы , согласитесь ли вы быть счастливым в обмен на страдания других людей ? Кто то скажет не обязательно быть счастливым в обмен на несчастье других. А вы давно в зеркало смотрели ? Я вот никогда не обрету счастье пока страдают люди в Африке, Ливии, Сирии, Афганистане и многих и многих других местах. Даже достаточно просто посмотреть в окно. Пожалуй тут в тему привести цитату одного человека который сформулировал кратко и точно , закрепил этот принцип навсегда. "Гитлеры приходят и уходят, а немецкий народ остаётся" И.В. Сталин. Есть конечно нюанс со всей нашей одинаковостью. Хочется верить что когда нибудь в будущем люди дорастут до такого понимания что надо бы всем собраться и решить коллективно какой язык станет планетарным, или создадут новый, а все остальные уйдут в небытие. Да, технологии могут развиться так что разные языки не будут мешать разговаривать. Но язык это больше про мыслительный процесс, про формирование сознания, чем про пустые разговоры. Кто то не согласится мол "Красота разнообразия и всё такое" , идете в лес. Мыслительный процесс это алгоритмы. Одинаковые алгоритмы одного типа могут лучше либо хуже выполняться на том или ином языке. Алгоритм написанный на одном языке имеет одни уязвимости, Алгоритм написанный на другом не имеет эти уязвимости , но имеет другие. Алгоритмы имеют свойство конфликтовать особенно сильно если написаны на разных языках. Такова жестокая реальность.
