Hey Ron I just bought one of these and I have all the same issues as you but I was wondering if I bought some OEM potentiometers for a game cube controller would that fix the stick stiffness and sensitivity issues of this ttx wave dash? I dont hate this thing for 20 bucks but I do hate that it registers full input when the stick is only about halfway over. But if I could just buy a two dollar part spend 15 minutes soldering it in I definitely would? Or is it not the potentiometer that is the problem but some sort of programming in the board itself. It's only probably a five dollar experiment but I'd like your opinion.
Honestly at this point I'd rather have retrofighters do this, unless 8bitdo can get Nintendo to sanction this and be properly licensed so we can have the Nintendo logo on the controller, like retrobit and the Sega collaboration.
@@itadapeeza8559 Have you checked out the Old Skool Digital Controller? It's a Gamecube controller in the style of a Snes controller. No joystick, and apparently its perfect for the GBA player.
The RetroBit Sega pads have been glorious. And their Dreamcast pads aren’t even out yet. I too would love a Gamecube controller from them but don’t say enough with Sega. We can never have too many Sega pads from them
@@trevorunderwood3652 lol we can have enough Sega Genesis gamepad. What they made is great but we don't need more. But full line of wireless Sega would be nice. I want a wireless Saturn 3d controller
I just got a pair of these (different "brand", but they are all the same) and I must agree that the sensitivity of the analog sticks is crazy. The deadzone is pretty large and the first "register" of movement is at 36% of max. It hits 100% well before the edge of the travel area of the stick. I'd say about 75% or so of the distance to maximum travel. It makes games like Metroid Prime near impossible. You are trying to aim at something and it's either super slow or max speed. Just to get your scanner tool able to pick up on something to scan can be a giant chore. I'm going to keep them because they do work great in certain games (games that don't need precise analog movement). I'd suggest paying no more than $20 per controller, that's about all they are worth.
I think high-quality manufacturers like Krikzz, 8bitdo and Retro-Bit should do a proper 2.4GHz controller for the GameCube. Of course, for N64 as well, but that would require massive re-design IMO.
Funny this video comes up now, cause I just came across my second Wavebird controller the other day. Ended up being great condition and a great pickup. 2 great genuine Wavebirds in my collection 👍
If there's one controller im gonna be nitpicky about the feel its definitely gonna be a gamecube controller. This looks just like another cheap generic aftermarket controller from amazon.
How to make your own better wireless controller 1: Get one of these wavebird KOs (specifically for the shell) 2: get a regular gamecube controller 3: Get a Gbros adapter 4: get an 8bitdo snes wireless adapter 5: get a snes to gamecube adapter 6: Gut the OG controller and the Gbros adapter and put them in the ko wavebird shell. Now you have a wireless GC controller WITH rumble. 7: Connect the snes Bluetooth receiver to the snes to GC adapter and plug it into the GC 8: pair the two devices together 9: Done
I have this exact same controller. Mine didnt exhibit the issues you had. It doesnt feel exactly the same as a Wavebird (I have one of those too) but I can play games with it with no issues. My dongle is also fine.
I just found out about the product and was looking up reviews. Some dudes channel call RoXolid Productions praised it, just played a couple rounds of Double Dash. Thank god I found your review, otherwise I might've bought this trash.
I'm curious as to if the OldSkool falcon controller is actually of the same quality as this or if it's a bit better. As far as I've heard, it seems to use the same mold but supposedly better internal parts. I'd appreciate if you could check it out and compare it to this cause I haven't seen any proof if this is actually the case or not, just hearsay about it.
My worries are regarding interference from other controllers. Does this controller have any issues with the 16 wavebird channels, or do 2 if these cause issues with each other, since they don't have multiple channels?
So I was wondering if I bought one of these and I had an old gamecube controller, would I be able to solder the sticks from an og controller onto this controller do you think it would work? I've thought about doing it before but I'm wondering if that would work. Let me know I'd be down to work on one of these and try to make it better. Edit: I have worked on trying this before, I had a shitty soldering iron at the time, but I'm pretty sure the cstick module can be soldered from an og board onto this and then you could swap a better analog stick onto it.
modern controllers are so much better but yet no one want to make a better gamecube controller. the only thing we have is that dumb retro fighters controller
@@7ngel you are not understanding what I'm saying. Look at the PlayStation 1 and then look at the 2 and the 3. They improved the controller while keeping it mostly the same so why can't we get a wireless GameCube controller with rumble and the missing buttons for modern games? That retro fighters controller just looks like a PlayStation controller with GameCube ABXY buttons. They didn't even put the stick in the right place. Personal I like the shape of the GameStop controllers made by pelican over the original controller but either is good. The point is even that looks more like a stock game I've controller vs the retro fighters.
I’m hunting certain pelican G3 wireless controls with the antenna on the receiver not the cut off version G3’s. For my nostalgia. 4 grade I opened a gaming magazine and seen the control receiver on the gamecube and I said “yo wtf is that it looks cool” I was in 5 grade. Never got a GameCube did as adult got a wave bird 6 years ago but now I need that nostalgia g3 wireless controls got a clear g3 w/ clear receiver now I need the black and purple color way.
i have 2x of those wavebirds but they are a pain in the ass to find/collect for reasonably thanks for uploads like this controllers are sometimes worth more than loose systems lol
I replaced my analog sticks with some switch pro sticks, works like magic. It does have some level of delay when I tried to play rhythm heaven with it on my gameboy player. I guess I'll use it only on games that do not require short reaction time.
Im in the market for 2 Switch controllers. I want a Pro one and some kind of GC one too. Theres some I've noticed with headphones input so yeh thats pretty darn sweet. Getting a 8bitdo, the new new one that has the bigger handle grips is probably a safe bet too instead of a pro just because I could use it on my modded PS3 n 360 possibly. I seem to struggle with fight games going back n forth but might go with another GC one than this one. Even modding one if theres stuff I don't like bout it. Sure theres some easy mods to do for Smash on the Switch. Seen a few on here. Maybe be a good idea for a vid MLP! The ultimate modded fight GC controller for the Switch. Nice vid m8!!!!
The 3rd party wavebird is great for PS3, but you’ll need the MayFlash adapter to make it usable on that platform. The first-party Control Stick range isn’t far all the way.
I don’t really know why I was curious to watch this. I love your take on stuff. But yeah, it took me a really really long time to consider 8bitdo and also RetroBits SEGA 2.4gh controllers and I love them but most 3rd party controllers I treat them as trash and a waste of money. Rather restore an original Nintendo wave bird controller.
These aren't awful for the price. The camera stick is stiffer but still works fine. It dies have analog triggers so you can use it fine on Mario Sunshine for spraying while moving withe the FLUD pack.
I always never liked these knockoff controllers. The only one that I can say was a good alternative was the gamestop controller. I've had a better time with those.
I have an original wavebird but it has started to fail. Left joystick is functioning wrong, I've changed both potentiometers but problem persists. What can I do?
My WaveDash has a sensitivity issue with the analog stick that weirdly only happens when it's plugged into Controller Port 1 and when I play Double Dash, where if I tilt the stick to the left, my kart will flick to the right a few seconds after turning left.
Yeah I'll stick with my wired controllers. I got a few from a thrift store at like $5 each and mixed and matched til I made 1 that's nearly perfect and 2 that are decent.
so far I know there is 1 other 3rd party wavebird called the oldskool Falcon. youtuber Rerez had made a review about the falcon but I think you should review them yourself because you know better how controllers should be for a kinds of systems
I’m just surprised after all these years nobody has made a 3rd party receiver. Whoever makes one will be making some serious dough. I did lots of research and can’t find a third party receiver that will work.
I agree with you Ron the controller ain't worth the 20 bucks. I mean if your low on cash yeah sure but its quality looks like crap. My mother wouldn't even buy it. God rest her soul
Used this playing Gamecube games on my Wii. Somehow it just refused to work with Peter Jackson's King Kong. It works fine with other games. Just not with King Kong.
I wonder this my self. You can buy potentiometers. The ones on this WAVEDASH seem stuff and oversensitive. If I bought some nice potentiometers would they fix the sensitiveness and the stiffness.
why do we have decent wireless snes, genesis, nes, nes classic, snes classic, genesis classic, ps1 classic, controllers but no gamecube it is like everyone and there mom hates the gamecube nintendo wont even bring gamecube games to anything new even wii got brought over
I got a copy of the wavebird too but sadly it doesnt work. Probably the Problem ist the reciever. OK tried again and IT works, but only for max 1 Meter and offen loses the connection to the reciever. Total garbage.
I heard that you can't use 2 of them at the same time on the same GameCube console because they use the same frequency and don't have a dial. Is this true? Please someone answer before I buy two of them. 🥺
Just got an aftermarket GameCube Wavebird from eBay. Not the same brand, but definitely the same problems yours had. Hate how I have to open up And rescrew the receiver. Works ok, but wouldn't recommend either lol
Hi my name is Jay I am a fan of yours I noticed you get a video on the SNK arcade Pro I was wondering could you take the PlayStation One True Blue fighter pack in connected to the SNK arcade stick Pro
