As a long suffering Irish supporter who witnessed defeats to ABs from 70s onwards it is with pride I hear a programme worrying about what team to face Ireland . Times have changed and this game will be one of the highlights of the year . 150 year anniversary of IRFU and a Friday Night Game under lights . Only hope the weather is benign . ABs always welcome to Ireland . Great show guys
Just my input on the Rieko/Sexton thing, I was in the military 40 years ago and the banter was harsh, and unlike todays rugby, punches were thrown, so I'm all for the banter and ribbing, O'Mahony's dig to Cane and Retallick's response to Pete spot on, but Rieko was out of line with Sexton, knowing it was his last game and no chance for revenge, it was 'below the belt' But hey, if Ireland win in November I think Rieko will get a bit of stick.
Well said. There’s a time and place and things get heated but to say what he said, in that specific moment really showed you who that man truly is. Nasty piece of work.
As an Ireland fan, there’s been way too much on this. Sexton himself said he had no issues with Ioane’s sledging and was trying to explain why he had such a bad reaction to the ABs winning that QF. I think all of us in Ireland can’t be taking the moral high ground especially when POM calls Cane ‘a shit Richie McCaw’
Sexton's memoir, like that of Brian O'Driscoll, is another petulant and unseemly squeal, dripping with bitterness towards the All Blacks, against whom too many players of Sexton's generation still nurse a severe inferiority complex despite the recent pattern of results slightly favoring the Irish. Those twin QF eliminations obviously still sting, and in the classically disappointing fashion of too many Irishmen, Johnny would rather play the victim and moan about a cheeky quip than rise above reflect on his long career with wisdom or insight. Irish-NZ dual citizen talking.
All blacks will be welcome in Ireland and the Irish have enormous respect for them and believe they are a team that can beat any team on any day. I think they were very close to beating SA if they had of won 1 game we would be all thinking very differently now.
@@Formakiwi I don’t believe Irish rugby fans hate any rugby nation, rivalry’s yes but there is no rugby nation that the Irish wouldn’t welcome and sit down and have a pint and a laugh with their fans before and after a game. In Munster they tell you “what goes on on the pitch stays on the pitch” and this goes for all true Irish rugby fans including England and NZ
@@SmcdMcd-d2k Because of 2 things. 1 - List of injured players includes our top 3 hookers (Sheehan, Kelleher, Herring), Henshaw, Jaeger, etc. Latest reports say that they may all miss the November matches. 2 - Andy Farrell is now dealing with the Lions 2025 Tour business. Simon Easterby is now handling the squad.
@@fawltyoldboybasil.2178Ire 24 - 12 NZ, and Ire 32 - 22 NZ were some of the results the last time Ireland played on NZ soil, and Ire 29 - 20 NZ the last time Ireland were at home. The way the ABs have looked this year (pedestrian on attack, passive in defence) there's ample reason to believe Ireland have every chance to put up a decent margin over the ABs. Not a certainty, by any means, but a definite possibility.
The game for us (Ireland) against NZ should be a great occasion as usual. I don’t think there’s ever a time when you don’t have to be absolutely at your best to even be competitive against the ABs. We have our four first choice hookers injured for that game which is a tad bizarre but even below that there are some good players available. It will be the highlight of the series of games coming up.
As an Irish man - as somebody said, you have to give it and take it. Sledging on the field during the game is part of high level competitive sport - you dish it out, you get it back. But I think the lack of class Ioane showed saying what he said AFTER a game to a player who was retiring (and like him or not, has played over 100 tests) showed zero class. Clearly hasn't the slightest regret either. The contrast with players like Ardie Savea who would tear your head off to win a ball during the game but show a lot of humility after the game is done - shows up Ioane a bit really. And btw, no bias cos Sexton has crossed the line himself a few times during his career and was a bit of temperamental f*cker himself, way too narky as a captain aswell. This is only all about hyping book sales anyway!
As a Kiwi - most of us know Rieko is a grub and doesn't reflect our country or the ABs' values. Hard to see his behaviour being given a pass were Richie still captain
The AB’s will be coming to Ireland of the back of championship and a pretty good hit out against England the week before. This will be Irelands first match since June. Not making excuses. Every team shakes the rustiness off and can get up for a game against the All Blacks.
My 2 cents, sledging before and during a game that’s competitiveness. Calling opposition players fuck wits and cunts after the result is secured and whistle is blown… classless.
On field banter is very different to after the match, considering rieko has never won anything of note I'm not sure he should be running his mouth off, topped off by the fact Jonny said himself that was an explanation of what happened as opposed to starting it off again.
The 36 best players in the country selected to play a new style of rugby from the start of the season (with the addition of Cam Roigard ) requires Consistency in selections and to maintain continuity that includes selecting the invaluable experience of key players
A new style of rugby? Oh you mean the "flat-footed, standing start, thump it up the middle then spin it wide and hope the outside backs can make something of it" structure familiar from Cantab club rugby. Yeah, bit of a case of "here's the new stuff, same as the old stuff", like the team selection and overall pattern of results.
And somehow they are just now figuring out that keeping only a couple focus areas in mind is a good thing for clarity in games. As if that isn't the case at every single level. This guy seemed good at first but pretty worrying at this stage the rubbish that's spouted. ABs isn't a dev team, who plays best gets picked.... well those things are contradictory in the way they implement them cos if the best guy playing was picked Lakai would have been the 7 first game.
Parsons solidifies the arrogance from ABs on how they view other teams outside of NZ. Sledging is one thing during a game, classless arrogance after final whistle had no place in the sport. Arrogance from current New Zealand side has seeped into AllBlacks culture since Hansen departed…..
@KarlM99 so you elect yourself as the arbiter of where things can and cannot make offence, and conveniently favors you, and then you call the other side arrogant. Lovely
Razor still cowardly scared to lose games in selections instead of trying to build anything new. Only good thing in the squad is Ruben Love who should have been selected at start of internationals if they weren't saving slot for Will Jordan and wasting 3 one dimensional wingers for what should be a single slot. How Havili the catagorically worst midfielder of this year(worse than a bunch of reserves as well) got a sniff at all is baffling.
I think Razor is correct to concentrate on winning games at this stage. Too many losses undermine confidence. There's plenty of time to plan for the next World Cup.
The interesting thing, some of the best refreshing selections this year were caused by injury not by choice , Sititi to 6 , ratima starting , Jordan to fb , etc
@@qcsorter4626I thought he was the magician who would sweep away all the old thinking and instantly resurrect the unconquerable All Blacks of yesterday, all while sipping a latte and breakdancing on his surfboard...? This is why hype trains are the worst means of choosing the best candidate for any position of responsibility.
My theory around TJ and Sam Cane's continueted selection is, Scott Robertson is deliberately picking them and making them integral to his current team in order to try and force the door open to international selection, which would allow him to bring his little protégé back from his cushy Japanese retirement gig. If true, it would be a classic case of putting short-term self-interest ahead of sound long-term thinking. In other words, classic Robertson.
Jason Ryan basically towing the line that these coaches (and James apparently) think win the battle instead of the war. While the Boks develop for 2027, we're obsessed with making sure we don't drop anyone from the 'leadership group', no matter how poorly they're playing, and now we're taking two who were horrible against the lowly Wallabies along as glorified moral support. What's TJ teaching the better performing 9's exactly? How to pass badly and mouth off to the Ref? Ratima, Sititi and Va'ai have been the standouts this year, and yet none would have gotten their chance if injuries hadn't happened. We seem obsessed with the same 'experienced' players who have been at the core of landmark losses for years now. Same players = same outcomes.
You're right, they should drop (and fire) everybody who has more than 50 caps. In fact, they should have dropped the entire team when Razor and the assistant coaches took over. What would they know about the value of experience?
TJ comfortably shaded the highly-regarded Cam Roigard, whom many a keyboard warrior claimed to be the heir apparent, in their head-to-head NPC clash this past weekend.
Mr. Ioane unwittingly helping Jonny make a nice extra bit of profit, with all the free publiciity he's given Jonny's book. First time I've seen a foreign rugby player's autobiography reveiwed by the Sports Sections of the British Papers.
As much as I love the ABs and absolutely hate Ireland, I cannot see these ABs beating Ireland at home. I am afraid Ireland will give NZ a historic hiding this time.
Just out of curiosity do you hate Ireland because you're a bootlicker to the crown or just don't like our accent? Hard to tell when ye have the British flag in yours.
Tu'ungafasi, Cane, Perenara, Havili, Perofeta are all wasted selections. Why so many wingers? Razor is blunt and out of his depth. Ryan needs less dressing with his never ending word salad of BS. Well done NZRFU, you've ruined one of the last great NZ brands. Shocking ineptitude, 5 wins and 3 losses already this year, should beat Japan and Italy, but England, Ireland and France are going to give us a reality check for sure! Well done for getting out Leon, your time will come . . . . .
I think Razor is a great guy and with a better start would have more confidence, but I agree he is currently treading water and doesn't have the emotional intelligence of Hansen or as tuned in to each player like Andy Farrell
