Honestly the "one handed" operation of the Fitly was the most interesting part of the bottle which is funny they don't seem to focus on it lol. Drinking with one hand sounds pretty useful for cyclist, runners even just driving.

Real question. If you're hiking and you're carrying a container of water anyways and weight matters when you're hiking, why would you carry an additional cup when you can just drink straight from your water source? Unless it's a very simple short hike and you have kids with you and the kids are too small to carry their own container of water.

Those collapsible cups would be nice for city trails. I hike one that has drinking fountains along at intervals and I usually carry a canteen or water bottle, but they are bulky. Just being able to stop and drink a cup of water and mash it back down would be nice. I was thinking, even at my doctor's office they have a water fountain with disposable cups, bringing your own cup that could just slide back in a pocket would be nice.

What’s nice about mine is that it comes with a plastic heat sleeve so that you can hold the cup without burning your hand and it gets stored inside the collapsed form using the screw on lid to keep it stored. So I carry a small nice looking backpack instead of a purse. It has pockets on the side, allegedly for a water bottle, but they are too small and short to hold any typical water bottles securely. Something like the flask or the Fitly would fit nicely in there and stay in without falling out. I pretty much want to be able to carry enough water with me to take a pill if I need to, I'm not out in the desert hiking. There's a market out here for all kinds of products.

The little Fitly would be appropriate for kids and the bigger models for adults. The “bite to sip” sounds very much like a Camelback, but not everyone wants to wear their water supply. Fitly is a decent alternative. As for the collapsible cup, they sound perfect for people who have RVs or like to eat out in parks. Definitely better for the environment than plastic cups and easier to store.

I would have a usecase for all three of them, though the memo bottle is definitely overpriced. I would use the memobottle for my daily commute because I often find myself either loosing the bottle if carried on the backpack or having it pushing in my back when it’s inside. The Fitly would be perfect for my biking adventures, not as a bottle to drink out while riding, but more as an additional bottle, that takes up minimal space. The foldable cup would definitely be a good companion on camping trips, we had something similar over here as well, but with a mirror on the bottom. Used to prank each other by slapping it flat while filled. By the way, the memobottles are kinda cool, because their sizes are the same as European paper formats, which are a fractal. Two of the same size next to each other will give the next size up, but rotated by 90°

The Fitly seems most applicable for any camping situation, especially if you had like four big ones. A great idea if you know you have potable water that you can refill it with. The shrinking is a great selling point! The flask seems so strange to me. If you wanted to have an alcohol flask, do you want it to be flashy? I mean an old steel one would suffice and be more comfortable if you need one in a pocket. The collapsable is nothing new - seems outrageous at $20. You missed the best one on the market, the Fold-A-Cup, it comes in 200ml and 600ml, and is associated with the Swedish Army. A friend of mine recommended it, and I ended up carrying one with me for years. It's a bit better than the other collapsible cup, in that you only fold it once, so it's easy to clean. Small enough to forget about in a calf pocket, and useful for whenever somebody's got coffee, and no cups. It's been around since the 70's, and will likely still be around long after these products have been replaced with better iterations.

Another thing to note with the fitley or whatever it’s called is that when you fill it with colder water or ice cold water then when it heats up it’ll probably burst that thing or at the very least it’ll leak out once the water expands.. I’m sure it would be a big letdown if you took that out in public… lol

Would have to get pretty darned hot first before water changed state
@HardxCorpsxKali
@HardxCorpsxKali 2 месяца назад
@@gunfighterzero it doesn’t have to boil. Just warming up 20° would cause the air in the bag to expand. That would force the water and air out which would be a disaster.

Yea - I don't see it - even going from 32F all the way to 100F there would be very little change in volume - barely even measurable and definitely not enough to burst it. And if you were concerned you could start with it frozen - then the volume would shrink as it went from solid ice to liquid water.

@@HardxCorpsxKali no, not really. Water molecules only expand 4% when from room temp to boiling. 20 degrees wouldn't do anything of note

Haha I used to have little plastic collapsible cups you could keep in your pocket when I was younger. That pint one is interesting 🤔

@@k.y.6148 That does not necessarily mean you're particularly old though. I got a foldable aluminium mug ~5 years ago, so you're probably at least 10

The Memobottle is seriously attractive - just the kind of design I love. Pricey, but I think I'd still get it.

I'm wondering if the Fitly squeeze bottle would fit a sawyer water filter? If so that would increase the value. Great show! Thank you!

I always avoid silicone collapsible water containers. They scum it pretty quickly, and as this video shows, its a hair magnet. I suppose the hair issue wouldnt be an issue in the outdoors, but still...I'm sure there are other better alternatives.

The rectangular water bottle seems like a cool idea, It just needs to be made of better materials.

MEMO makes a metal version of that bottle as well, unfortunately they aren't insulated so the water doesn't stay cold very long. Also the metal ones don't stand upright either.

The memo bottle's design is old too. You've been able to get glass and plastic versions for years. I'm pretty sure there's a brand of premixed cocktails that also uses that same design.

Seems the Hideawy would be even more practical if it had a lid. But as you say, James, the design is not anything new or revelotionary. I remember similar for camping back decades ago. Fitly seems most feasible for all situations. Only question is how insulaed is it? Will cold stay cold or hot stay hot?

If I'm going to go hiking or camping, I'll just stick with my camelback. Soft, easy to carry, much more water, 1 hand operation. Still use the same camelback that was given to me from the Army when I was in Iraq.
