Since Toyota showed the new Toyota Tacoma and Toyota Land Cruiser, people have been sounding off on the subject of Toyota's new crop of turbo engines. Replacing reliable V6 and V8 engines with smaller displacement turbos is always going to ruffle the feathers of truck enthusiasts, but are they objectively less effective than the naturally aspirated engines they replace? From a reliability standpoint, obviously only time will tell; however, as I mention in the video, Toyota has a solid history of making potent and reliable turbo powertrains, some of which are even famous for being both turbocharged and reliable. The 2JZ in particular is a sought after engine known for being over engineered to handle big boost over time. For me, I'm less interested in the badge on the body or under the hood and more interested in the actual performance and real world fuel economy the powertrains provide. The new iForce Max engines in the Toyota Tacoma and Toyota Land Cruiser (as well as the iForce engines in the Tundra and Lexus GX 550) combine big power with solid fuel economy. If the GX 550 gets the iForce Max twin turbo V6, it will be an absolute monster. Time will tell. Let me know what you think, and thanks for watching!
