Are Tyranids Coming to Darktide?

@@Jo.Plays.Games. lol, not exactly my own idea, just something I've been seeing in the community. But it is very useful software that would allow for multiple faction missions, not just aligned forces that are 100% against the players. It has Massive Potential to shake up the whole L4D-like genre.

Absolutely. It also totally makes sense now why Sienna's career took so long (aside from developing/launching Darktide and splitting resources). They aren't perfect, but Fatshark has done a damn good job really setting a standard for the genre.

The Tyranids have a presence in the Warp known as "The Shadow in the Warp" cutting off entire systems from contact to the Imperium proper. so hearing that is a actual voice line is VERY scary since the Psyker can sense that the Tyranids are coming.

@@Papyrus_in_a_HEV_Suit the thing about this is the hat as far as I know when the tyranids show up to a planet the shadow in the warp envelopes the world and makes psykers go insane because their connection to the warp is severed, that’s what the shadow in the warp is, it also cuts off interplanetary communication, because Astro paths are psykers.

Maybe, but maybe they've been working on it during the 4 years of development and it just wasn't ready at launch. When you think about it, melee combat was already refined from Vermintide 2, and a lot of the enemies use existing frames from V2 also. They could have had time to be cooking it up. Maybe.

I might just be oversold on the idea but I also recall hearing from some Community Partner channels saying that FS has something big planned for the game's anniversary. I've leaned to trust them more as the hints and bits of foreshadowing on things that have been coming out have been right or very close almost everytime. So here's hoping for some massive changes to the game now that they've finally made good on their console release promises to XBOX fans, and have also finally released the skill-tree system they say they've wanted in the game since launch. The current rebalances have been amazing for the most part, I honestly don't see much else they HAVE to do towards game balance (and other than the crafting system) and more so that they'd start adding new content like enemies, maps, monstrosities, mission modifiers, assassination targets, and new classes/playable archetypes. Maybe they'll lean into narrowing where the Meobian 6 and Commander Wulf plot is going, or it'll expand into a greater mess of Genestealers brought on by the meddling of the traitor guardsmen and Chaos Nurgle presence.

Makes sense. Gonna help balance the game first

They'd really bring a lot of variety to gameplay. One thing I've been mulling over since Vox 9 and 10 is that overall, 4 years of development for Darktide feels like a lot when melee combat was more or less done from Vermintide 2. A lot of enemies use the same frames as existing V2 assets, a lot of the maps in Darktide are very same-y. I sort of think that they've been working on another faction that needed a lot of ground-up building from the beginning, and it just wasn't ready to ship with the game.

⁠@@samfire3067yes, but Hive Fleet Leviathan is by far the biggest, and it's purple color scheme is sort of the posterboy look for the tyranids, and therefore the genestealer cults by extension. having a cool colored faction would also offset the warmer yellows and greens of Nurgle's followers

Would be cool to have them fighting the other factions in missions they show up in. Like the players are just showing up as a third, small faction in a wider war between the chaos cultists and genestealer cultists

I knew someone was gonna bring up the hair! I honestly have no rebuttal for that except...........hair squigs? (not really) If she is a genestealer, I think it's mostly likely that Fatshark would be using some creative liberties. Realistically it's totally possible you're right and that she's been affected by Chaos if they're going to make a major plot point about her. What's-her-face Rannick shot could have very well been set up by Zola.

Orgyn voiceline has mention Morrow being a genestealer after he fought them before and the fact he bold. To me this seem to be a bait and switch line

her being a chaos traitor gets thrown out the window, if you havent already gotten to lvl 30 its shown who it is

#1 A wig, or surgical hair implants wouldn't be that hard for her to acquire, to help blend in with more normal humans, even if she wasn't consciously thinking about infiltration when she got it. #2 It's also possible she was given a genestealer's kiss, and isn't a true hybrid but is being subliminally influenced by the broodmind.

That'd be a great one. I really want to see some Tzeentch too, but I'm not sure how likely it is since Space Marine too will be doing that.

@@Jo.Plays.Games.genestealers and chaos followers so the idea of them being there COULD be true but if they were addedf fatshark would need to make em fight the mobians and the cult and unlike the factions in vermintide who were all chaos related in a way i dont think the dregs and genestealer cultists would strike a deal with each other so im still iffy about this they could add a seperate mode for genestealers but we probebly wont be seeing them in normal missions fighting side by side dregs and scabs

@@Jo.Plays.Games. The Tzeentchian theme would have fit perfectly into darktide. We had a lot of Nurgle in Vermintide, and don't get me wrong, I'm a Nurgle fanboy, favourite Chaos God. But Tzeentch would have worked well, especially considering the implementation of actually functioning ranged combat into Darktide. And Tzeentch doesn't necessarily mean flimsy wizard, just less tough than a nurglite horde, but maybe with magic tricks up their sleeves to make them a bit more durable, like AOE spells that would have made them tougher, kind of like the beastmen banner from VT2.

That really made my day, I spent like, 2 weeks overall on this, so your comment really means a lot. :D I know Fatshark has said they're not gonna do a linear narrative, which honestly makes things more interesting to me, because that means potentially anything is on the table. They've already got a lot of plot points cooking, it's gonna be a lot of fun seeing where this goes.

Honestly it's better this way than holding everything on the surface or presented in a linear way. We, our rejects, are not some planetary lords to know everything that happens on Atoma, so narrative does make sense

They are absolutely brutal when they're taken seriously. And Fatshark has a fair amount of humor in their games, I agree I think they'd ride that line very well.

replace pox walkers with grechin and then I agreed keep the specialized for the orks because a lasgun isn't as effective against them as I'd like unless it's a survivele waves that would be fun

Not sure why people think there's going to be a ratling, do you know how insane that would be to do rigging wise? And how poorly it would interface with the current map design? If there IS another class (questionable - this is fatshark, look how long dlc classes took for VT2), I would expect it to be a tech adept/reclaimator, who would be right at home in the hive

Yeah someone pointed that out to me! I've been in my Darktide hole so long I haven't even tried Sienna's new class yet, and she was my main gal.

I would love to see a Lictor that hunts/stalks you throughout missions. Something truly threatening that could end your run any moment if you make a mistake.

@@Jo.Plays.Games. maybe a disabler that can show up after you've done a certain thing and targets you specifically like the assasin from warframe, and if your team doesn't protect you well, interrupt it and fight it right there it will drag you far away like the packmaster in vermintide, but faster. Mebbe even get stronger if it downs you cos it's eaten your memories, incentivising protecting you even more?

You might think I'm crazy for saying this, but I actually kinda got the impression that the genestealer lines about Morrow were supposed to drop a hint that Grendyl is actually part of Ordos Xenos instead of Hereticus or Malleus like a lot of people seem to think. Those lines usually end with, "I wonder what he was doing there? Was he already part of the Inquisition" kinda stuff. But....Grendyl's a theory for another day.

Even so dont forget that the power level of Darktide is much lower, you are not playing an elite force of the Imperium, you are basically a normal convict that is quite adept at not dying. A tyranid cult is feasible, a tyranid invasion is a much serious issue, enough for entire fleets to come asap before the tyranids start to snowball after onnomimg extra biomass. ABout Chaos Marines would be cool, but problem is that where thres one chaos marine theres probably more of them and letting roam free is not an option so reinforcements would be call, unlike now that inquisitor Grendel is using everyone they can get their hands on as cannon fodder trying to contain Tertium's situation by themselves without any reinforcements

Why would they be on a Nurgle infected planet with the inquisition right on top of them? Not to mention if they were on that planet there's no way they would've only called Inquisition and not Astartes

It's just a shot in the dark when I heard shadows in the dark. And xenos presence Drukarii assasins are known to work for choas factions as assasins. Especially if they'res a heavy choas faction presence but more than likely its just going to be tyrinads.

I'm really hoping they add an enemy psyker. I noticed that the playable classes and the specialties they can spec into have an enemy with similar skills, except psykers. Which really made me think magus...

@Jo.Plays.Games. enemy psykers would be horrifying and cool. Issue with that is closest thing we'll get is the demon host because the demons eat psykers the second they get their hands on them. So cultists won't keep them around to kit them up they'll just sacrifice them

The shadow in the warp only surrounds Hive fleets, it would be too much of a giveaway if the cult itself causes it, because if all the psykers on the planet started freaking out but there was no hive fleet nearby it would just let everyone else on the planet know there is a genestealer cult there. They have their own local psychic "intranet" that links them to the patriarch/broodlord to receive orders and communicate in secret, and occasionally a psyker can hear bits of accidentally intercepted messages, but for the most part the cult will try and stay as quiet and hidden as possible unless they are revealed, at which point all bets are off and they might as well rise up in rebellion despite the fact that there might not be any hive fleets nearby

i think it would maybe serve as the curse systeme like we have already, just for a reason for the xenos scum

Yeah. A couple psykers will also talk about a "shadow" over Atoma and a "darkness" coming. Which sounds awfully suspicious as a possible Shadow in the Warp reference to me, but not quite enough to hang weight on it.

I believe I know what you're referencing from the Eisenhorn series. 40k lore is a bit of a moving target because often things are as powerful/as important as the plot needs it to be. I'll put a video about Daemonhosts on my list for Darktide content, though! I plan to do a variety of game content, but I want to do at least 1-2 Warhammer vids a month since now I know peeps are into it!

It'd be like a traitor captain by on cocaine and space crack. I'd wonder how they'd be able to fit a Plague Marine in the game. It'd have to be more like a raid boss. Idk what our weapons could do to Ceramite and Nurgle reinforced armor. Not to mention just killing it in general is nigh impossible

I would LOVE to see a Chaos space marine. I'm really hoping they end up adding some kind of boss fight like Nurgloth or Burblespue, and a Chaos marine would be a great fit.

Make it a plague marine so he's slow enough to hit, very deadly at range and up close, almost impenetrable armor over 80% of his body, but certain weak spots where the ceramite has eroded away, or been mutated into bloated flesh so it's softer. Let plasma, power, and (when added) melta weapons penetrate the armor but at reduced damage.

Hell if they’re really worried about the lore nerds getting upset at us killing a space marine they could add dialogue implying he’s injured from previous strike teams failed attempts

Hey thanks! That is a question that I'm really hoping we get answered in the next year. Even though we know now that Wyrmwood wasn't being hunted by a Lictor or Genestealer, I still think a lot of what's covered here is valid. Heck, there's things from the Wyrmwood voxes that if they don't bring something new in with Part 2 of the Traitor Curse that makes it clear what the things seen in the lower sector of the hive are or what the chanting she heard was - it still could be that it's seeding the idea of xenos. I guess we'll just have to see what they do with Part 2 of The Traitor Curse. Whiiiiiiiich I'll have speculation on that out sometime this week!

Can confirm head dropping

Level 30 players are members of an inquisitorial entourage, with all sorts of big boy guns like plasma guns, heavy stunners, and bolters, not to mention psyker powers. They could totally take on bigger stuff than cultists, plus it's a video game and it would be fun to fight stuff like Tyranids or a plague marine boss

Honestly, Daemonhosts and beasts of Nurgle are kind of a Space Marine level threat too. I've found in 40k, any threat is exactly the appropriate level the plot needs it to be.

I think 4 ogryns can take care of it Big boys strong boys bigger and stronger than any bug man

The four reject can handle a genestealer cult. Remember genestealer take years to breed to grow their numbers. So if they were discovered early enough before they can revolt or reach one billion members. space marines won’t be needed. Don’t worry there is always plan exterminatus if u fail

You're 100% right - especially about the maps. But my gut tells me we're getting a recognizable faction next since patch 13 was so recent.

Progression system is fine with patch 13, just need better reward system for me

I was almost considering Drukhari before I landed on GSC.

Drukhari have a couple problems, though. The largest is that they're not a horde faction, and don't make use of large amounts of chaff units, nor do they typically have human cultists or allies that could fill that role. Since eldar are supposed to be physically superior to a human one-on-one, basically all the enemies would have to be elites. The other major sticking point is that Drukhari are a faction that relies on mobility and striking power instead of toughness (for the most part; there are things like Grotesques) which mean Fatshark either have to completely butcher their faction's lore, or create a highly mobile yet not too bulky faction of enemies that would be a nightmare to balance, since if they're too mobile they're unstoppable but if they're not mobile enough they're cannon fodder. The above points actually apply to a lot of non-imperium factions. Tyranids have genestealer cults, Orks could be made to work with Gretchen, and the other Chaos cults could be worked in easily, but of the other Xenos races, Necrons, Aeldari, and Votann have similar elite-focused armies and not many reasons to invade an imperial hive city. The only possible exception is the Tau, who have relatively weak frontline troops and access to alien and human auxiliaries, but they're not likely to infiltrate the hive (preferring to conquer it via outright invasion) and the sheer power of their ranged weaponry might create issues (also as an "order" faction, they and the Eldar and Votann have a slight chance of showing up as allies instead).
