Are Used Mazda Miatas WAY Overpriced? [New Buyers, Don't Overpay!]

Mazda MX-5 Miata prices have been going up like crazy recently. These prices seem to have doubled, and in some cases tripled, from what they were a few years ago, at least in the case of the NA. That raises the point, are Miatas worth it if their prices keep going up? In this video I go over just that, as well as show some bad deals (way overpriced) on Miatas! Consider this a buyers guide on finding good deals and reaching a good price point on a used MX-5 Miata!

3months ago i spent 3.5k on one with a spray paint primer job. With no under paint prep so you still see the chipping old layers of paint. Engine bay was painted green but they didnt mask anything off so all the lines are green as well. And rust spots under. And had a short nose with crank wobble. But frame wasnt lowered so it was still in good shape.no interior besides seats and carpets. No door handles /cards. No stereo. No antenna.cracked window.Had no front or rear bumpers as well as no rear finish panel.Mostly paid that 3.5k because it was a good body and frame with a title.

its because the car community became a trend on tik tok and everyone is buying miata's, so its sky rocketing the price. its happening to almost every car. it sucks because a person like me who just turned 17 is late to cars. i couldnt buy a car 3 or 4 years ago when cars were cheaper than today. miata for example, 4 or 5 years ago you could find them them for cheap as hell. now their around 5k-9k and its only going higher. then us young people who haven't got the chance to build or experience a car has to go through this EPA shit. for true young car enthusiasts its only getting harder and harder for us to live our life style and it makes me mad. eventually were gonna have to start to find cars outside the country because soon there's hardly gonna be any in the U.S . i just hope the prices stop raising and us true car enthusiasts can enjoy our hobby

I'd say you just gotta accept the fact that you are not going to have a sick street cred jdm car when you are younger and in school. When you get into the labour market you'll earn enough to buy something you like within your means. At 7k$ & above your can get very nice secondhand cars stil and it's not plain unnafordable! You just gotta start little by little, get a civic and wrench on it for cheap. Proven fun

The whole point of a miata is to be a cheap, entry level sports car. If you have to pay so much then it defeats the purpose. Bought a rust free, garage kept, 100% stock well sorted 130k mi 95 M edition for 8000 near Buffalo NY. Inch thick folder of service records including timing belt in 2014. No hardtop, original soft top in excellent shape. Drove it home about 400 miles no problem. Front end paint has damage from bugs that never were cleaned off (was a Florida car) but other than that, a couple door dings and oil pan seepage it’s perfect. Still worth every penny.

I paid $14,700 for my 1997 Miata on the day the NB came out: March 13, 1998. I wanted those pop-up headlights. I will never sell it. My previous mechanic hated it and every time I would have him work on it he would say, "You're never going to get this (cost) back when you sell it." He was a great mechanic but did not like old cars. I found other mechanics to put in a new engine at 197,000 miles. I still need a new suspension before I go for a complete paint job.

A decent NB miata in Croatia is about $4-5k. NA's are so rare that a decent one is more than 10k. And to get you in a point of view- the average salary is shy above a $1000.

Last summer in the UK i brought a mk2.5 for £600 with 80k on the clock. its having £1500 of restoration work on the body work and front chassis rails. And then itll be getting a new soft top fitted for £750. So all in all im probably spending around £3000 ($4100), but it has no engine, gear box or clutch issues at all. Plus the restoration work is by a specialist. I have no plan on selling it ever, as i have another car as a run around. So my Mx5 will spend most of its life under a blanket
