It's our next to last day at Davis Mountains State Park and we are taking it easy. There's been another frost last night so Chef Mike makes French Onion soup with the food we have left. Of course it's delicious! That gives us enough energy to explore the bird blind and hike the only trail we haven't hiked yet: The Headquarters Trail. The park map says you can get to it from the Montezuma Quail trail but after starting the trail we realize it's not following the road but climbing uphill. We don't want to climb anywhere! We're afraid we're off-trail again. Yikes. But we discover it does connect to the Quail trail and also can be accessed from the road. So we got our steps in without trying to kill ourselves!
Our last day, we spend cleaning up and storing away everything that's outside because who wants to put away frozen hose, not to mention emptying the tanks when it freezing. Our travel day is New Year's Eve and we want to get an early start... but that's a story for another day.
