I hope so. As a game designer I don't want to make something with my vision and then have some activist come in change it completely and when it fails it gets pinned on me and my studio shuts down. This is exactly what happened with rocksteady, with the new flintlock game and other examples.
What I'm getting from all this is that discrimination is fine, so long as it is positive. Also, for fans and developers, games are art. For publishers, games are product.

We are winning, sure, but it's not enough. Personally, I learned a lot in the past few years. I now check the company and who is involved before I decide to buy a game or any product. Also, good take on everything and I agree, the masses are waking up to the "We are the good guys here!" scam.
We aren’t winning yet. The people who pushed the DEI (mostly the executives) are losing. We start winning when AAA games start becoming good again and with no real-world politics involved.
I beg to differ. We are playing a major game called life and we win by being happy and content. This discourse and discussion is a way to express, morph, and reinforce our own ways of “winning” and provide contentment through communication. If making money makes people happy and content, that’s on them. As long as it does not interfere with us doing the same, then they can do whatever.

For me, a good game has interesting game mechanics that evolve normal genre gameplay, stylistic graphics, and no modern day identity politics of any kind. Story helps improve a game for me as long as it isn’t trying to push an agenda but some games I don’t care if it exists or not (like Vampire Survivor or DRG.)
Hadn't heard of DEI so cant talk much on that but what I will say is in response to 'just hire people based on their skill' Obviously I cant see anyone who would outright disagree with that statement but I dont think its that simple when it comes down to it. Without a system like this DEI in place these companies will continue to do what they have always done which will lead to the same unbalanced outcome. Of course though, DEI in this case is clearly not the answer as not only would it cause other issues, but it was obviously just a PR stunt instead of actually trying to make meaningful change.
Yes, DEI is just a way for people to make money, for those consulting, but also especially for the media (including this channel) who benefit from creating a huge storm over nothing. Everytime we engage with the topic, negatively or positively, there's money to be made for them. Not only that, but many political goals that have nothing to do with DEI are increasingly being pushed by polarizing people over something that is nothing more than a straw man. Celebrating the "laying off" of DEI staff is ludicrous, they achieved the exact goal they were intending to achieve (which has nothing to do with actual diversity inclusion or equity) and can now move on to other companies or other roles. This whole talk of "winning" is pathetic. Only bigots with their heads so far up their asses think there's anything for them to win here.
DEI is not really about helping historically marginalized groups. Giving Sweet Baby $7 million dollars for consulting fees doesn't help a black transwoman who's worried about violence. I think that black transwoman would much rather have the money herself or at least money allocated for better safety measures instead of having trans representation in a video game. I think if most black people knew that Sweet Baby inc is using political capital from the George Floyd killing to get paid $7 million at a time just to consult, pretending to speak for them, I think they would be upset.
The DEI is similar to the AI hype. Its about attracting investment, looking like your at the forefront of modern culture and trends, and making Company look more capable/less evil. In truth both are really gisnt money sinks that offer little of their proposed value. Large language models still have practicals uses but no where near the extent that is claimed, DEI though I think has almost none.
There is ONE way and ONE WAY ONLY to make these companies feel the pain. Let your wallet speak. Don´t buy the game. Let them bleed dollars and the nightmare will be over soon. In today´s world its all about shareholder value and profit. They can´t keep these losses up for much longer before they go out of business.
I think it's a rebrand, because too many normies got wind of the whole shitshow. They'll be back in full force with more nonsense, more uninspired, boring, overpriced trash made for gaming journalists, instead of the customer. Customer who they will still insist on calling toxic, racist, sexist, etc etc. I pirate most games now, just like I did 20+ years ago. The difference is 20+ years ago I was a kid and could not afford more than 2-3 games A YEAR. Now I have over 1,200 games in my Steam library. My physical game collection has reached 1,000. I ain't buying any more stuff. They want to disrespect me from behind without lube? So be it.

DEI is too ingrained. It's rife in the advertising agencies. You'd think America is 85% black with the "representation" in ads shown everywhere for any product.

So people like you and me simply won't be good at moving services and that is a fact. We have a physical handicap that is limiting both of us to a degree. However jobs where thinking and being creative is required are available. Lot of people can't do those jobs because of their intellectual deficits. Having a debilitating disease is not the same as being any race besides white, being a certain religion or being a certain sex orientation. Being a certain race, certain religion and certain sex orientation doesn't make you handicapped because that would be racist thinking. I don't consider any race, any religion and any sex orientation less capable. It all comes down to the individual. What the hell would us Slavs then be entitled to? We literally got the name Slav from slave. We are treated like second class citizens everywhere we go unless we bring some exquisite skill. And a lot of us are not worth 2 cents tbh. Wherever we go crime follows as no one is prepared for the ingenuity of the Balkan people when it comes to money laundering, robbing, deceiving and so on. Then again there are many of us worth a lot and are great workers on a mission that just want to feed the families. Whole Europe owes Slavs a lot and what did we get? Throughout history we are all owed something but living in the past doesn't make people of today owe you anything. The folks working on game is following instructions from those is charge. If you blame workers want to have normal work day to the problems you are doing somthing wrong. Find out the leaders making milions and ask for better condition for worker who just following orders and less for thoe CEO who making games worse and blame the workers.

It expands the appeal to a larger audience who were historically underrepresented in the industry. It's a net loss for the community. How one can stand against civil rights is baffling.
