the gods are literally siblings both Prime Deities and Betrayers Gods, believing in 1 God in this pantheon means you believe in them all to exist. they protected each other when they came to Exandria. the gods met the primordial elemental titans when they first arrived, the titans allowed them to stay and shape the world, and the gods did. It was when they made mortals that everything fell apart, so titans and betrayers said “lets start creation over” and primes were like “creation doesn’t work like that”, betrayers, primes, and titans made the rules of exandria for mortals not for themselves. The gods are siblings having a family spat over the contract they made with the titans, but to every other mortal its a war where hundreds of thousands dont make it to the next day. That is the calamity, its a family fight over an ant hill named Exandria. Imagine this, 1 ant killed your sibling. that ant erases all proof of existence of your sibling, you cant remember their face, their name, their mark in the world. that ant now calls themself your equal. how would you respond? you destroy the ant hill, so they dont harm you or the rest of your family. that ant is the Raven Queen in the Eyes of the Betrayer Gods.

A Familiar Problem is tangential to campaign 2, but doesn't really have any spoilers or story significance. it's more or less just a "big day out" side adventure for Jester's long-suffering pet weasel and a few other animal friends. DM'd by Marisha, players are Laura, Matt, and Travis, with guest players Heidi N Closet (radicool drag queen) and Izzy Roland (Brennan's kicking rad wife!)

As someone already said, the main non magical magic types are slashing, bludgeoning, and piercing. Think a battleax or longsword or claws for slashing. A warhammer or morningstar for bludgeoning. Piercing would be like teeth, a dagger, arrow or bullets from Percy's guns in VM. Then there's fire, cold, lightning, poison, thunder, acid, and necrotic. The first few should be pretty self-explanatory. Necrotic would be like the creatures in S1, E4 of LOVM, or the trap that killed Vex in S2, E3. Then there's Psychic, Force, and Radiant. Psychic is mental damage- like emotionally or loss of sanity. Force is just Magic force physically hitting your body- like Force Push from Star Wars. Radiant is holy damage- like when Pike returned in LOVM S1, E9, or when Keyleth kills Silas in S1, E11. By and large, in 5th Edition D&D (which is what CR plays), damage type doesn't really matter unless a creature has vulnerability, resistance, or immunity to a certain damage type (like lightning and Brimscythe in S1, E1.)

Not sure if anyone else has commented this yet but these are the most commonly believed meanings for each stained glass window in the intro. You've already got most of these to my knowledge. From beginning to end (possible spoilers): 1 - Symbol of the Cobalt Soul, a group of librarian monks in post calamity Exandria. 2 - Either the gods sealing the betrayers, creating the divine gate, or granting magic to mortals. 3. The attack of Vasselheim during the Schizm in which the Primes fought the Betrayers and Primordials. 4 - The Lord of Hells, Asmodeus, and The Wildmother, Melora. 5 - Cathmoira, The City of Thrones, where Avalir is destined to land. 6 - The Matron of Ravens, once a wizard now a god. 7 - A Luxon Beacon, which is related to a type of magic called Dunamancy and that's all I'll say in fear of spoilers 8 - Avalir, The City of Crowns, the flying city where Calamity is taking place.

After you finish this series I'm sure others have suggested you watch the Wrap-up discussion with Brennan and all the players, which is nearly mandatory (awesome), but there is also a GM roundtable discussion between Brennan, Aabria, and Matt that gives all sorts of info and insight from the GM's perspective about gaming in general that I think you'll find fascinating, but also a few bits about Calamity as well. Also they touch on their own personal GMing styles. Recommend it as highly as these videos.

So about A Familiar Problem, the oneshot mentioned in Marisha's announcements - it does have slight spoilers for about midway through Campaign 2, but I'm not caught up to the point it spoils for and I was able to enjoy it without getting confused, so if you want to watch it, you shouldn't need to worry about being spoiled all that badly. Also, one of the players whose name you didn't recognize, Isabella Roland (AKA Izzy), is Brennan's wife!!
@LordAaronus
@LordAaronus Месяц назад
full disclosure, the one-shot they're talking about will have minor spoilers for C2 but they deliberately leave out a major one. so whether or not you saw C2 already it's not a big deal. just learn to get used to Travis doing Disney's Stitch voice. also one of the guests in that oneshot is Brennan Lee Mulligan's wife. I'll let you guess which one.

I think you would enjoy watching the Manajerie Daggerheart games that the crew played. Daggerheart is their own game system that is currently in an Open Beta within the community. With that in mind, watching the released session 0 as well as the level up videos for between the game sessions is probably recommended. Enjoy diving into a new world, new characters and a brand new game system. There is a lot more game mechanic explanation going on in that one too

spell damage would be any damage that is caused by a spell, say a fireball, which would be fire damage. while exploding magical damage of magical items might be constituted as force damage which many creatures cannot resist.

27:10 Damage types, there are a few. The most basic of damages that are non-magical consist of bludgeoning slashing and piercing. There is also elemental damage. Fire cold lightning, poison thunder, psychic etc. Most Powerful monsters tend to have some sort of resistance, so only take half damage to certain type. Force damage or "standard magical damage" only one monster in the game is resistant or immune to it. Tho some may have vulnerability to one or more damage types is also possible. 😎🧙🏻‍♂️
@BlueVortecz
@BlueVortecz Месяц назад
Simple Answer; There three types of damage sources; weapon, spell, other. Then there are thirteen damage type; bludgeoning, piercing, slashing, fire, cold, necrotic, radiant, lightning, thunder, poison, acid, force, psychic. Some characters have abilities that give them resistance to certain damage types (allowing them halve the total result of that damage type). Laerryn has a very powerful abilities that grants her resistance to a damage SOURCE, rather than a damage type; any damage that comes from a spell is halved for her. Which is why Aabria is asking BLeeM if, the damage counts as a spell.
@BlueVortecz
@BlueVortecz Месяц назад
There are other damage reactive such as immunity (take 0 damage) and vulnerability (take double damage). And like you suggested, there are some passive effects that are triggered by taking a certain damage type. HOWEVER Vulnerability, immunity, and damage triggered features are typically only used on monsters/npcs, and very rarely are they used for players.

Ill tell you what that firery heart stuff, the figure within, everything described to Zersus when he pulled the Lord of Hells (Asmodeus) through into the world was: bullshit. That was all bullshit. Ive watched and rewatched every moment of Asmodeus in this series countless times and what ive concluded is this. Asmodeus doesn't do a whole lot of outright lying with his words to zersus. The biggest deceit that he pulls on zersus is in how he presents himself to him. Nothing about him being attacked in ep one, or hurt and dying in ep 2, or the burning golden face fighting to break through here now are real. Its all the visions Asmodeus has given zersus to play himself as being a hurt, misunderstood, scared and confused creature that needs zersus' help. Zersus believes so powerfully in redemption and the lord of hells used that, showing him exactly what would hit right in those convictions to get zersus to do exactly what he wanted which was for zersus to bring him into exandria properly. He had already chosen zersus to be the final puzzle piece of the ritual to allow asmodeus to set foot on the world properly, he just needed to trick zersus into doing it. Master manipulator!

There are several types of damage (acid, bludgeoning, cold, fire, force, lightning, necrotic, piercing, poison, psychic, radiant, slashing, and thunder), the biggest reason why a difference is called out, is some characters(also monsters and NPC's) might have resistance from certain damage types. Like, you get hit by fire damage, but you have resistance to fire so you only take half of it. Most are kind of what they say on the tin, but 'force' damage is for effects and spells that don't do one of the other types, so it's like a physical impact but by magic rather than a physical object. When they talk about resistance to spell damage, that's basically if someone casts a spell, then what ever type of damage that spell does to them they only take half. But, it's specific and does not resist damage from magic that is not a 'spell' as such(that distinction can get really down in the weeds at times LOL).

26:40 The different types of damages usually are only specified or asked by the players or DMs because some characters might have resistances (half damage) or weaknesses (double damage) to certain types, or they have abilities that can protect against specific types. I assume Aabria assked Brennan because she maybe has a protection from spell damage, or something she could've down to reduce that damage (if it was spell damage)

weapons deal bludgeoning, piercing or slashing damage, spells deal damage tied to the various forces behind the spell.. necrotic, radiant, force, poison, fire, cold, acid, lightning, thunder, psychic. there's some overlap and magic weapons can deal "spell" type of damage. it is relevant because some types of damage have extra effects (poison can leave you poisoned so you take more damage consecutively, fire can leave you on fire, burning you more...and so on).. it is also relevant because many creatures and enemies have resistance (they half the damage) or straight up immunity to specific types of damage. players can also have or build resistances or immunities to specific damage.. a forge cleric gains resistance to fire damage, a necromancer wizard gains resistance to necrotic damage and so on (at higher levels).. magic items can grant resistance also.
