Great video, great analysis. World rugby need to stop tinkering. Bill Beaumont needs to go. Yes there are clear things like the caterpillar ruck, the dupont law that can be stopped or changed. But I can't agree more. It won't be too long and rugby won't be rugby anymore. I hope all rugby unions and nations stand up to world rugby. Think about how many teams are now employing a ref as part of their coaching set up. Yes to maybe to get some advantage but it is also more about trying to actually understand what the heck is going on with constant law changes. It is a beautiful game, leave it alone now.
Beaumont will ruin the wonderful game because he is so envious of Springbok rugby. He will do anything to weaken us. Time for this corrupt official to be booted out.
Why are you saying South Africans are upset about the rules change i dont think do we are the current world champs and we will adapt like we always have the rest of the nations must also adapt, everytime South Africa won the world cup they change the rules and ehat happened we continued winning world cups and setting new records our blood is green and gold we shall prevail. The Springboks will always play to their strengths. Viva the WORLD CHAMPS
Well said sir ... the proposed rule changes seem very reactive to South Africa's strengths. It's particularly odd, as they never tried to negate NZ's strengths in running the ball for the last 10 years. Wasn't that also unfair against teams with big forwards and less skilful backs (I'm being facetious)? It may be that it's because South Africa inherently has something (size and power) that most other nations do not have, nor can they simply replicate it. Skill can be learned, but genetic qualities are impossible to copy. Seems like World Rugby are following the same line that the entire world is gripped by... if you can't beat them, cancel them.
I think you are right, "reactive" is an appropriate choice. We will see what gets introduced. I hope it doesn't dilute the character of the sport we love.
I’m a kiwi and playing South Africa is what I look forward to the most , The contrasting styles is what these contests the best for me , one thing I love is when the game is done , is the mutual respect between the players, Nothing gets me on edge like playing south africa in Ellis park
@@LambertOtto Its not as if SA has weak backs either but there is a difference in focus on which half of the team does the main work which is a valid point.
Mmm, interesting. The real problem is that everyone other than SA are getting very annoyed with the continued scrum resets which eats up so much game time. Of course SA will see this as an action to thwart their game plan which is to bore everyone to death by continually scrummaging but let us all be honest SA have been incredibly lucky to keep winning so many close games in the last two world cups not to mention receiving more than 50% of the 50 - 50 calls. If SA are good enough they can win with the law changes. All that it will mean is that the dominant side will still retain possession but they will actually have to use their brains to create openings in more free running play as opposed to just use brawn and oversized muscle bound players who can barely keep running for more that a minute.
A bitter jealous guy this incarus person. Complaining about the Boks strengths as unfair to other sides. Grow some balls and toughen up your sides abilities so that you could compete better. You never hear a Springbok complain about an All Blacks strength. They'll try an better it or close in on that strength. That's the motivation you need to better your side. Not jealousy or crying unfair advantage.....what a sissy thing to complain about on this whole posts. The same wording over and over. An envious personality is no personality at all😂
Reading all of these comments, it seems to me that most are against many of these changes. Why can’t these changes be overturned? After all It is Rugby, not ballet!
Heinrich Brassouw was a World Rugby rule change. He single handedly changed world rugby rules. He was the best open side flank and was annihilating the game. These rules are exactly the same. Attacking the Free kicks and substitutions is a direct result of the Boks strengths.
@@joedennehy386 Ritchie was a great and makes my top 15. He was always tough around the breakdowns and arguably captained the best All Black and rugby Team. From a Saffa.
World rugby is becoming an embarrassment to the game, Bill , mark my words your wish to have a UK country like England , Wales or Scotland win a WC in your life time will stay a pipe dream no matter how much you change the rules to realise this . The Springboks have a sixteenth player that you cant touch no matter how much you old has beens change the rules. SA might be in your view a poor third world country but let me teach you something , We are a proud united rugby nation we will conquer what ever obstacles you old has beens put infront of us. Our Springboks have done more and inspire more than all the UK teams and the All blacks together to promote rugby among none rugby playing and so called minnow nations all over the world, not through what we say but with what we do. Uniting People's and nations through sports i believe a wise old man said that by the name of Nelson Mandela my you should readsome his writings then you will have some insight in what make us who we are when it comes to rugby. It all seems impossible until its done.
No one is stopping the other nations to implement the same tactics South Africa use. Yes it’s a gamble having the forward packs on the bench and one back etc. but it’s working right now.
@@coatknightHe was talking about the contest at the breakdown. Being able to compete for the ball, the opposition having to fight for the ball. Instead of guaranteed possession.

You think everyone is trying to stop South Africa! Actually it's about trying to make the game more appealing so TV money comes to the sport. I love rugby but honestly there have been so many dreadful games. My biggest concern is there is no encouragement to make a line break because if isolated they give away a turnover in seconds.
I would agree they are trying to speed up the game and make it more exciting. However, I don't want them to water down aspects of the game that make it unique and that many, many fans enjoy.
i have seen how rugby has changed. the boks has dominated this part by adapting and not dying. the rest is following our brand of rugby.scrumming, kicking most of our ways they are adopting . so like the saying goes if u cant beat them join them. and that what the world has done. look what happend to the ALLBLACKS WHEN THE BOKS LEFT THE RUGBY CHAMPIONSHIP, THE SUPER RUGBY. THEIR STANDARD DROPPED. NOW WE IN THE NORTH AND THE NORTH ARE PLAYING A GREAT BRAND OF RUGBY BECAUSE WE BROUGHT THE STANDARD OF RUGBY UP.PERIOD.
Really??? They were gifted the World Cup by over zealous TMO guy. They still only won by single point. In horse racing they have handicap events. We should call that final the Rugby 14 handicap. 14 Vs 15 is not fair contest at all.Lol you guys should of won by 20 points playing against 14 players. It is total bs on you guys been the greatest. We don’t know who is best until 15 plays 15.
@@markrutherford6010😂😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 It's unbelievable that you want 15 vs 15, yet your captain doesn't know how to play according to the rules. It's not the Springboks fault that your captain had a brain fart in the final. Also there is no question of how good the Springboks are, they have 4 WC titles, 3 of which were won away from Home.
With regards to the no scrum after the free kick, we will get the free kick, tap, play and get over the advantage line, make a forward pass, scrum again, and get the penalty anyway. then we bring on the 8-0 bomb squad and Matt Williams will cry for 6 months.
A certain kiwi pundit called a Sir , would love less impact scrums , for more of an " entertainment " spin , theres a game already in existence , its called Rugby League.
I can remember when a certain Heinrich Brussow burst on to the scene ,in one year he made the Brittish and Irish lions the All Blacks and the Aussies his bitches, and lo and behold the next year the daylight rule was made....typical
Good review. World Rugby is giving in to where the money is coming from, and it not focused on growing the game. Good to look at player safety, but don't become ridiculous
No matter what World Rugby brings Rassie and Boks will adapt and carry on like we always do....be 1 step ahead of the circus called World Rugby. But this will effect allot of teams not just the Boks , Ireland, NZ , France and England will .
What I don't understand is if they are concerned with player safety & with the now well known issues associated with head knocks/concussion/HIA, why haven't they mandated head gear. I understand that padded head gear 'supposedly' doesn't provide this protection, but it would save some the injuries to eras etc. And if it doesn't provide at least a small level of concussion protection then why do we have impact absorption zones in vehicles, as the full deceleration on impact still existing?
I've got an idea - lets make the game safer and at the same time put every country in the same situation. We'll play the game on-line! Because the springboks adapt better/faster, does that mean they should be penalised? The changes are just more WRC Madness.
There was another option much simpler but also more virtuous and respectful of the Spirit of the sport: ask the referees to stop letting the SA play permanently to the limits of the rules, where often these limits are crossed with a doubtful permissiveness, questioning. Moreover if WR has remorse, why do they not show ALL the videos, from all angles, slowed down, etc of the actions where the SA have benefited from arbitration clemences? Repeatedly the videos allowed by WR (yes they have all the rights on the images), do not show on very little slowed down from all angles, while some actions are subject to controversy. The best thing is to lift the doubts, right?
As an Australian rugby league fan I enjoyed the 2023 World Cup, why is there no SAFFER league team? Exciting but scary thought, the kiwis are starting warming to rugby league. If you guys join more African teams will join. To be further debated around the “BRAAI”.
World Rugby have been changing the rules for years. It's not about South Africa, it's about Southern Hemisphere domination of World Cup Rugby. And every time they've changed the rules, southern hemisphere teams just adapt faster than any northern hemisphere team.
The rule changes are exciting in a way because in South Africa we have freaks of nature in every shape and form. The new rules will just create new super stars in SA. We have a huge player pool to choose from.
World Rugby moving in the same direction as FIFA, the Olympics, Westmonster, Brussels, Washington, Davos, etc! Definitely biased against the Boks. Is there a Kiwi influence in there somewhere?
Sport has always been about aiming to be the best and that is why records, titles and so forth are made. Now it seems the way forward is to lower the bar so that we drag the leaders/achievers down instead of improving in order to reach their level.
If you don’t like scrums and set pieces, there is indeed league, but also rugby Union sevens, where scrums and line outs do not play a significant role. You are exactly right, the set pieces make Rugby Union 15s unique and multifaceted, truly a game of a variety of skills and for people of (almost) all shapes and sizes.
Careful what they wish for because they might just get it. They want to make the game more faster & less physical. Well then Rassie will unleash the extreme depth of fast skill full players chomping at the bit to run teams rugged.
Referees should be able to distinguish between a dangerous high tackle and an infringement where a playour has been touched on the shoulder. How is it possible for a lock to tackle a scrumhalf other than the lock placing his knees on the ground.
Come tomorrow the northern hemisphere teams will make new changes on how tall, big and sizes must be for players since the Springboks have the upper hand in this area and that's why they want to do away with the set peace's they can't take punishment upfront
SA will be the 1st nation to adapt then we become the best b4 any nation we bit them ,we win world cup again .they change rules we do the same .remember we have Rassie Salut South Africa
IRB have hated South Africa since we came back to the game. Jealousy and hatred. Too many northern hemisphere and Aussies and kiwis on the IRB board. It’s outrageous. You can’t have rules and a team uses them to the law and wins. And then everyone’s nose is out of joint. IRB are corrupt. Disgraceful and weak and selfish. These laws are so obviously aimed at Boks. It’s racism.
@@RugbyMerlin like they say. Nobody is taking away the running side of the game because kiwis are so good at it. Nobody says shit when kiwis won their cups or Aussies won theirs so long ago. When we win rules must change. Gatland went to rsa for lions series and moaned about us. Got his way and they won that test. Russie makes a video showing facts and he is banned. Both had something to say one is banned and unlike gats. Russie was right
In the scrum situation instead of free kick give a full penalty which would mean the line out to the team given the penalty, I would never allow the 20 minute red card ever...it encourages coached thuggery, if you know you will get a full red card....one thing I think it would be more in line to crack down on is illegal doping that is going on and is being covered up...the sport is getting like athletics and cycling....and don't anyone say there is no doping...
Well said. World rugby seems to be ego driven atm, in the amount of change they want. This alone will put many would be fans off. SA are targeted in the subs for sure. It's a risk that can backfire as it did ireland against England. All these organisations seek to impose themselves more and more, if given leeway, and without input from anyone other than themselves. Just like many global entities today tbh.
Absolutely nothing to do with South Africa. If they wanted to stop south Africa they would bring in laws that curb the use of substitutions as a tactical weapon, such as the 7/1 split which would eliminate the Bomb Squad or allowing big forwards to burn through all their energy to get thr best out of them for 40 minutes, which is SA's biggest weapon. There have been lots of calls for World Rugby to introduce laws that make substitutions what they were originally intended for: cover for injured players only. But that didn't happen because they're not targeting SA. This is all about speeding up the game and making it more exciting, and we see that with the new laws around rucks and speeding up thr ruck clearance by enforcing the 5-second rule. Slow rucks and endless scums are making rugby feel more like American football where everything stops and it takes an age for the teams to get back into the action. Today's rugby is being dominated by set piece play and it's killing the fast flow of the game that keeps the sport exciting and entertaining. None of this is helping promote the sport to the casuals or a new generation of rugby spectators who expect rugby to have the fast flow and quick set pieces they are accustomed to in football and other fast paced sports. There's absolutely no conspiracy here. I fully support the changes. Speeding up the game is key to boosting the success of the sport
They should start tracking how many km a rugby player covers in the full 80 min like football to check and see if its feasible to do week in and out with its physical aspects some players tires and start making stupid tackles cause his reaction time is to slow. these blokes who wants league rugby dont know how mentally tough it is and i doubt they will last a full 2 hrs sprinting then jogging. If those who want this change can do it week in and out then sure implement that law
"Meant to halt South Africa's W/C dominance"? OF COURSE!! Rugby is no longer a sport, it's a business and the businessmen want to dictate where the W/C resides!
I swear the springboks are to world rugby what Man city is to the PL. World rugby is run by certain nations, like the PL is run by Liverpool, Arsenal, Man utd, Spurs.
Scrum and line out clocks will be great. There is so much professional/cynical time wasting in the game. The clocks will allow teams to actually complete the set price instead of milling about talking about it. It will reward the strong set piece teams by denying the weak team a rest. I also think that you have misinterpreted the rule changes around substitutions. I think that world rugby are looking to expand the blood bin/hia approach to all injuries. Again, the would stop teams from professionally/cynically putting the hooker down 'injured' to steal a rest before a line out or scrum. It would also reduce the incidence of players continuing while badly injured, worsening the injury. Again, we will get to see more game time (and set pieces) rather than players having a conference.
SA tactical dominance over the rest of world rugby? Ireland have a better win percentage over the last 2 years and havent lost to them in the last 3 encounters. NZ have about 50/50 record against SA in recent years. They won the world cup, but does that really mean they are "dominating" anything to the point that they really think all law changes are meant to penalise their tactics only? The point is that there are a lot of things in rugby that waste time, slow the game down and make it painful to watch on occassion. Unfortunately South Africa often seem to build their squads around bigger guys who need slower games to maintain their impact over the full 80 minutes. Thats fine for them but its a bit rich to complain that any law changes that try to speed up the game are specifically designed to penalise them. After all England also traditionally use the slow grind it out style of game, so should they also complain now? The scrums are a nightmare but the free kick law change proposal is pretty stupid. Just have the refs crack down harder on resets and penalise clearly inferior scrums rather than rewarding them. Having less fit and fresh hulking great giants on the bench to reduce the impact and injuries later in the game does make sense in terms of player safety. Claiming its to penalise only SA is just stupid. Does it mean SA might have to change their tactics a bit? Yes it probably does, but its the same for all teams whenever there is a law change. Adapt or die.
Yes, the World Rugby Board are trying to destroy the game. Rugby Union, indeed all sports, are gladiatorial with the objective being to dominate your opponent. Rugby Union is unique in the world of sport in that it offers many opportunities to dominate. There is the line out, the scrum, the turnover, tactical kicking, territorial kicking, the tackle, long pass, short pass, both forward or backward play and more. By comparison, rugby’s alternative game Rugby League, has far fewer opportunities and, in my opinion, is very much “one dimensional “. Already removed from traditional rugby is rucking, the dribble, and, to a large degree, the dominant tackle. Games always evolve but in a world saturated with professional sport it is important for each sport to retain its own uniqueness and pay homage to its roots and history.
Weakening the Scrum Importance is an Absolute Atrocity...it's called Test Matches for a reason...to be Tested at All the various Plays...set pieces included !
I can't remember an era when SA played to the spirit of the game. If they chose to continue to massage the rules and in doing so continue to ruin the game, so be it. If they're playing to the rules, crack on, it's Worod Rugby's problem. But I won't be watching.
I guess it's hoped that these proposed rule changes will increase revenue esp. attendance in European stadiums, by reducing ex-colonial teams' media-promoted bogus advantages. Sorry, won't work, because SAfrica probably just has a bigger number of better players, for a host of reasons, some related to national job opportuiuniies and income, and SA will therefore remain competitive. (Also they evidently have innovative tacticians.) However these rule changes may succeed: they may well boost attendance, the spectators duped into vainly watching for any of the hyped effects on the game. Oh well... just imagine the bitter comments that will inevitably follow SA's 5th RWC. Nice to have all that cash, though.
Typically. Europe is not strong enough. The only way they want to win is to change the rules. I suggest that world rugby should split in 2. Europe and then the rest of the world who can play rugby...
Here we go again, how insecure are south Africans Thier rugby team are the most successful nation in international rugby, an they still act like a victim 🤦😂
Incase I'm the only one who noticed, SA wasn't dominant. They won three games by one point each. That's hardly dominance. Winning the world cup was by the sum of tiny margins.
Yes, you are right. Three really close, and exciting, games, especially that French match. I mean dominate in terms of lifting the trophy, back-to-back champs, 4-time winners etc.
When i see Bill i cringe at the sight of him and his corruptness he is green with envy over the Saffa's. But they will quickly adapt to the ridiculous changes.
Why don't you change the truck and trailer rule it's up striction, because no one are allowed to play the man carrying the ball behind 5 or 6 men. I just don't like that rule. Changing that rule will make more sense. Rassie just look out they will change you as well with there new rules. Rassie for South Africa's new president.
So sad when the world body has to change the rules to allow a certain team playing in black to win or dominate. It is like when a child cannot get his way and a parent takes all the toys from his friends so he can have it all. Sir John Cowin should become a rugby league pundit. When ever the AB loose you must hear how league is so much better. They want to speed up the game to get more bums on seat, the irony is when SA teams left super rugby the numbers dropped. Now that they joined the URC numbers have increased. Clearly it is not the speed that increases the number of spectators but the quality of rugby. People come to watch rugs and mauls scrums and lineouts, this is part of our beautiful game. The skills of the tight five should be celebrated in the same way as the back three. If you want to watch rugby league go watch it, allow us who love rugby watch rugby.
I'd like to see some changes to the scrum laws, but the idea of removing the option to rescrum from a free kick is not one of them. I wish to see scrum domination still be part of our game, but to remember it is a method of restarting the game after a minor infringement. To then turn a minor infringement into a major one which can directly win you the game somehow seems incongruous. Penalties should still be awarded for breaking the laws of the scrum, but should be kicked into touch or run with, not for a penalty goal. This would reward the dominant scrum but promote running rugby. I hope that such an alteration would still reward a dominant pack and maintain the importance of the scrum. And it wouldn't be removing the South African importance of the scrum. But I doubt this would get much support 😂.
Stop all Rugby. Bloody waste of good money.!!!! Bullshit,to use a "proper" English word... You young men, there"s Cricket Golf and cycling.!! Do not let a incompetent, rule your life, with a whistle.!!
Rubbish the springbox only won the world cup because of the referee in both games against France and the all blacks both game they won by one point what dominants is that when you win by 20 points or more in conservative games that's a dominant team the refferee sent off Sam cane for 60 minutes of the game and for head high and let the springbox captain off for his head high you springbox are talking rubbish what dominants springbox struggle to score trys won by penalties the refferee
Everyone makes out SA is so far ahead. Can anyone name a year when SA was world number one for the majority of the year? I’m not sure excluding the last few months they have ever been top for more than a few months, since they re entered rugby . So calm down and stop trying to make out they are that far ahead.
