Your video's have been a great help in assisting me on my renewed journey of pipe smoking. They are helping with the amount of pipes I want ( the wife will let me buy is 2 more ) a Savanelli and a Nording free hand. I want to be able to rotate pipes and have a nice stock of premium tobaccos. This video was a great addition along with how to open and store my tobacco's . I must have watched 30 video's thus far. Just excited and wanting to share , and thanks for the outline of my new hobby.
Alright Mr.Muttonchop I think you might be secretly putting some of us under a spell or something....lol I say this because I'm officially hooked on Muttonchop videos...lol it's been fun going through and playing catch up on you channel I really enjoy all of them ") ~Jaime aka The Great Lakes Piper✌
Jaime Cunningham - thanks Jaime, you know just to give you a little back story on why I started this channel, one day last December I was having some trouble with one of my pipes and searched the RU-vid community for an answer, almost every video I watched was more like a VLOG video log talking about their day and what they were smoking, I couldn't find any videos on teaching people the do and Don't's of pipe smoking. So I said to my self, you have 30 years of pipe smoking experience, why not start your own RU-vid channel focused on short instructional videos, so I did. To be honest I thought I'll just post these videos, and if people want to watch them they are there for the viewing, I didn't think they were very good in the beginning because I wasn't as polished as others were, then all of a sudden I have over 3,000 subscribers, so I guess I tapped into a need here on RU-vid.
I agree 100% and anytime you want to add any other type video you know we'd all love it, but the way you set you base videos up was definitely well thought out and done very well. 30+ years of experience is priceless for many of us to try to absorb as much info as possible, even if we think we already know how there's always a little something different to try so again your videos are extremely handy to say the least. Thanks again my friend 👍✌ ~Jaime
I’m a sampler. I like tasting food, drink, tobacco, etc. I like traveling and good conversation. So maybe more a tobacco guy, I like cigars as well. I like exploring all the different flavors and styles and sharing the experience with a like person(s) as well as finding the interesting shops that provide it. There is a shop in Cambridge, MA called Leavitt & Pierce, been around for well over 100 years, like stepping back to another era. All that said though, I’m fascinated with all the different pipes and styles, same with watches though neither one them do I find myself collecting. I’m sure over time I will pick up more.
I'm a lot of both. I have about 65 pipes in my collection and about 25 lbs of pipe tobacco. The majority of my tobacco is cellared. I'm still stocking up because of the upcoming Deeming regulations that will take place this year. I plan on placing a few more large tobacco orders, so I won't have to worry about it pipe tobacco availability for a very long time. BTW, I love the LOTR jars! I've been reading those books, over and over, for the past 50 years. I have no idea how many times I've been through them, but it's probably over 20 times. I seem to find new things every time I re-read them, they're my favorite books too. I have a dozen or so churchwarden pipes, and love them all!
I live in Canada, so I can easily acquire pipes. It's the tobacco that costs an arm and a leg. According to my tobacconist, legally we cannot get samples or freebies, the smallest amount we can purchase still costs $50. Tobacco is also illegal to ship in the mail. It's atrocious!
corbinamondo - I agree, people in positions of power assume tobacco of any sort can cause cancer, but you know what would happen, if they banned cigarettes and cigars only, but aloud people to smoke pipe tobacco, the cigarette smokers would ruin it, because they would start rolling their own pipe tobacco cigarettes. I don't know the answer my friend, I wish I did, it truly is a shame. 😏😏😏
I'm still in the infancy of the hobby so I don't really know where I really fall in the category. I like my pipes to look nice and functions well but I haven't really tried enough different blends of tobaccos to call out my favorites yet. Right now I'm actually more interested in the history and culture of it.
I love your videos... Just had to chuckle, aromatic as "takeout". I am a "collector" , Aromtaic smoker and getting into English blends. I have 40 pipes, and smoke about 2 or 3 aromatic blends regularly... Great video!
Good Brother, Excellent video! I have been smoking for a while now and only own 6 pipes, and currently have 18 blends of tobacco in my rotation (money dictates a lot). One day I hope to have a few more quality pipes and up to 30 blends that I truly enjoy. Again, thank you for your videos. They are very enjoyable to watch and relax to while I smoke.
SargeTube57 - 6 pipes, and 18 blends is nothing to sneeze at, you could get away with buying just 1 more pipe and never have to buy another, you would then have a 1 week set of pipes, 1 pipe a day for a week. 👍👍👍
pipe and Marijuana person. my dad's a cigarette person I was showing him your videos he packed a bowl of tobacco out of a pipe I got him and he packed it completely wrong thus having a horrible experience. I showed him your video on how to pack a pipe next time i see him I'll ask if he put your method to the test. most of all your videos are basically the same with Marijuana except Marijuana smokers inhale more smoke. you're videos are great brother I binge on them while i light my pipe once the kids are asleep. god bless.
I fall into being more of a tobacco person. I have about a dozen pipes but I currently have 28 jars opened and in the cabinet to smoke any time. Then there are several tins and jars that I have put back with the intention of aging. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy a nice pipe and have a few. But most of the time I am just as satisfied grabbing a corn cob pipe loaded up with whatever tobacco I'm in the mood for at the time. I like your videos friend. Keep it up.
Our thinking is alike on this subject, I love my pipes, and I do the exact same thing when it comes to my tobaccos I stand in front of the shelf I have my tobaccos and think " what am in the mood for today?" Thanks for commenting and for being a Sub. 👍
Tobacco is expensive so I try to take what I can get and make blends out of them. I mixed equal parts Captain Black Royal with Cult Blood Red Moon, I call it Royal Blood, its not bad but I probably don't know what I'm missing. I started smoking while in the Marines and have been smoking since 2001 but I still haven't tried a lot of blends other than the OTC stuff and a few bulk blends from different stores. Sometimes I watch your videos just to admire your collection of tobacco. Keep it up you always make great videos.
Cool video! I'm an in between smoker too. I have my favorite tobaccos, like burley's and Virginia's. But I also like some English and aromatics. As an artist and craftsman myself, I appreciate pipes. And if I had more money I would buy pipes endlessly. So yeah, I would fall into the in between category as well.
Muttnchop Piper Me too. But I wish I could afford to buy a pipe every week. That would be nice! I'd like to be able to buy a Dunhill too. Who knows, maybe someday. : )
Though I'm fairly new-ish to pipe smoking, I'm more of a tobacco guy. I own 4 briars and 2 corn cobs, but I own 12 different blends. And that will grow. I view tobacco like I do food; I want to try as much as I possibly can. I love trying new flavors. Plus I have to find suitable replacements for when Dunhill stops producing tobacco. I love Elizabethan Mixture, and I'm kind of sad that I soon won't be able to find any.
Paul Czubryt - that's why you need to start stocking up now, pipe tobacco in vacuumed sealed tins will last indefinitely so if you can afford it, and have the space to store it, start purchasing as many tins as you think you need to last you for years to come. 👍👍👍
Brand new pipe smoker here. I'm learning a lot from your videos. Definitely have a long way to go. I thank you kindly Sr for the information. I watch every day.
Kyle Stclaire - yeah, no one cane acuse me of not being prolific lol, there is a lot of info, I know, but since you're new concentrate on "The art of pipe smoking videos" then watch the videos on "The Breathe Method" those should get you started. 👍👍👍
Hi there, your videos have been very interesting and helpful. Well I'm a fairly new pipe smoker, I only have one pipe, but I definitely belong to the tobacco collecting category. Ideally I would like to have a few more pipes, due to the obvious issue of ghosting, but I'm not that interested in the pipes themselves because, like you say, I just see them as tools, and my passion is for the wide variety of different blends of tobacco.
Welcome to the wonderful world of pipe smoking, I got to thinking about it the other day, and for me it's like drinking wine, you basically use a glass, but you drink different types of wine out of it, that's how pipe smoking is for me. 😃😎😎
I'm just now getting into this, but I can already tell I'm going to be middle of the road but leaning heavily towards the tobacco side. Right now I have a single cob, but my plan is to maybe pick up two or three nice pipes and then keep probably dozen or so tobaccos in my regular rotation, plus whatever I'm trying at the time.
I collect and smoke. Been smoking for over 30 years, many blends...nowdays my rotation tobacco wise is around 10 to 14 blends usually I smoke same blends with I like most. I've around 65-70 briars then com cobs,Falcons and meers which I don't smoke. I smoke mostly briars and Falcons, but it's just me. I'll wish you cool smokes and thanks for the clip
I dunno, haven't bought a briar in years. I've noticed that older you get less pipes you buy, atleast in my case. I really like Falcon's-they are my workhorses then I've have few Chacom's,Comoy's,Ashton's and Savinelli's which I Iike a lot.I have pipes which I smoke sometimes or not at all. I'm fortunate that I started this journey with pipes when pipes were made by artisans and yes if you want to try good solid factory made pipes get a Stanwell.I have few of them and they're quite light to wallet and quality of the craftmanship is excelent.
+Olle Wahlroos since the pipe show I have been smoking my Kirsten pipes, but eventually I'll go back to my Savinelli's it won't be long and I'll have the pipes I want then I can focus on the tobacco I am aiming for about 31 pipes, a pipe a day per month I am going to try and resist getting a huge collection, because most people I talk to that have large collection's claim some of their pipes go unsmoked, so 31 is a good number. 😀😀👍👍
So true...31 pipes sounds good. I have around 20 to 25 pipes which I smoke seldom...5 block meers which I haven't touched in years. If I was new to pipe smoking I would get 2 Falcons stems plus 4 different bowls for each type of blends plus 5 good briars no basket pipes, good pipes like Savinelli or Peterson. That should cover the rotation...I've noticed that Falcon bowls after the break in can be smoked 4 to 5 bowls aday. 24 hours rest and they're ready to duty. Personally I consider pipe smoking to be a lifestyle more than a hobby. After all these years I'll get same pleasure from smoking as I did in my younger days.
Just getting back into pipe smoking recently. My question is, does a tobacco continue to age after you have popped the lid off a tin or, does it stop at that point? Really enjoy watching your videos and am envious of your pipe and tobacco collection. 😉
I have found that the more into the tobaccos you become, the more you have to be equally into pipes. It seems like different chamber sizes and dimensions affect tobacco flavor to various degrees; either bringing out or surprising different flavors in the smoke. Just my 2 cents though. Great topic regardless.
I have heard the same, but for me with my thrush the larger the bowl the quicker the flavor goes away, so I sacrifice by smoking smaller bowls. I smoke a bowl, take a break let my tongue recover, then smoke another. Your comment is valid in fact, and I am glad you clarified for my viewers thanks 👍
Mutt, just wanted you to know the pipe bag you recommended performed well at the beach and all my pipe tech available for perfect travel companion. Thanks again for the great videos and Recs. By the way, how is that Green Dragon? From Country Squire, right?
I am glad the bag worked out, I really love mine. And the jar with Green Dragon on it is a tobacco from my local tobacconist called "Paul's Special" I just renamed it Green dragon weed like I did all the other tobacco's in the jars to match places in "The Lord Of The Rings" my favorite book.
I've never smoked a pipe, but I am going to start. So, for now, I"m a tobacco smoker as I smoke a pack of cigarettes a day and want to stop smoking cigarettes.
I am enjoying trying the different tobaccos more than I do trying different pipes. What blend did you start out with and which blend or blends did you first truly fall in love with and why?
80brax04 - I started with aromatics, but have recently moved to Oriental forward English blends, my favorite Aromatic blend is a blend called Eileen's Dream by CAO, it is really creamy, and reminds me of a flavored latte coffee. My all time favorite right now is a blend from G.L. Pease called Maltese Falcon, it has that sweet/sour flavor, plus just a little sweetness to tie it all together. 👍👍👍
Haakon Høisæther - yes I do, if I didn't my head would be dark brown and my chops silver, not a good look, plus it would make me look 70 years old, and I'm not ready for that. 😃😃😃
I guess I'm kind of in the middle because what I love collecting pipes I also enjoy the varying types of tobacco that are out there I think I gravitate more towards tobacco then pipes I have about 50 roughly but I try to spend at least $30-$40 monthly on tobacco
+Muttnchop Piper i've been smoking for two years now so pretty much probably over 40 different blends every order I try to get something different just so I can see what all is out there I do have some that I enjoy but I've not started to re-order stuff yet because I'm not done trying what's out there
+anthony landreth that's what I am doing except for me I used to be an aromatic tobacco smoker only, but now that I have discovered non-aromatic blends and English blends I order different ones to try out. Thanks for your comment, and being a sub. 😄
+Muttnchop Piper right now I'm on a C&D kick but I try to keep my options open I'm more of a non-aromatic smoker I could never get in the aromatic blends because of the tongue bite once I found English blends it was all downhill also nice chops
Cognitive Discharge - Those are not middle earth blends, they are blends I got from my local tobacconist and I just changed the names because I’m a a huge LOTR fan. 👍👍👍
@@MuttnchopPiper I am also a huge Tolkien fan. Are there blends out there that are meant to mimic the blends from Middle-Earth? I know I have heard of one call "A shortcut to Mushrooms". But I ca't find any of it I am relatively new to pipe smoking
Cognitive Discharge - Due to the Deeming Regulations the company that made “A shortcut to mushrooms” discontinued it because one of the ingredients was not made any longer. Go to a web site called “Just For Him.com, they may have some middle earth inspired tobacco’s. 👍👍👍
