The friendship and banter between Mr. Humphries and Mr. Lucas was a major part in carrying the series. Once Trevor Bannister left, it just wasn't the same. And "MEN'S WEAR" never gets old. And if any of you find these episodes too long, you'll find they'll ride up with wear.
65 years old born in US and this show is one of the very best I have seen. Just now getting caught up with the characters. completely hooked...binge watching and laughing my head off. Thank you for sharing.
I used to watch on PBS as a child. It's one of my very favorite shows. My husband bought the whole series for me on dvd. I got a dvd player for my computer so I could watch it but they make you buy software to actually play dvds these days. So here I am back on youtube lol
@@imbookedandverybusyhoney Oh I haven't watched that show in ages but that's another I used to see on PBS. I need to hunt that down. I'll second that recommendation
They had the gall to remake this series in 2016. Suffice it to say, it sucked. I grew up with the original run 1972 (the year I was born) to 1985. My parents and I adored this. So happy to see it on RU-vid. Thanks so much for posting this. My childhood memories thank you, too.
Arthur Brough died way too soon. I love all of the antics of the original cast. Shortly after Arthur’s wife died, he left this world also. This happens oftentimes after one person dies in a very long committed relationship. Mr. Granger was sorely missed.
The red headed girl in the opening shot sure was a beautiful lady. I remember one show where she had a speaking part. She worked at the counter in the background. I love this show, every time I watch it and after seeing the episodes over and over . . . . . . . I still laugh ....a lot.
A delight, indeed, and an episode which shows just how much of a jewel in the ensemble was Arthur Brough, already about 70 at this time, and yet performing with such wonderful timing before the live audience.
A very nice acting job by the late Arthur Brough. Going from comedy to pathos and back to comedy again...he did very well, as did the entire cast. One of the best episodes.
Mr. Granger was a great recollection or portrayal of Sir Winston Churchill, he really was quite cheeky..... It is said at a party 🥳 a Lady said: "You Sir are Drunk ! He responded, and You Madame are Ugly, Tomorow, I shall be sober !" ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6jjhxeHIjvU.html
So true, that was oftentimes referred to in the show. He looked the part and sounded like Sir Winston Churchill. He was indeed a Distinguished handsome older gentleman. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6jjhxeHIjvU.html
@@kathyosborne7963 Unfortunately, yes. I think the last one to die was Mr Rumbold. I mean, I watched this in the seventies when I was a kid. This and Dad's Army.
Yes agreed - the power (assumed) and addiction arising from it can be overpowering and they lose all sight and consideration for their past and future.
Great cast, great writing. Only found this comedy while being laid up from surgery. Canadian guy here so never watched it in my youth. Enjoy the show, half a hour goes quick. R.I.P. to all the cast members that have past. You tube will keep you alive forever.
I love these old English sitcoms, especially from the 1970s. As an American, I don't get many of the inside jokes, but all-in-all it's some truly awesome comedy! Bravo Kris!
I'm not anything English but I understand most of the jokes because I love to read about British slangs, even though many of them are too obscene for my prudish mind. I guess what I'm saying is, to understand the jokes you have to be acquainted with slangs and even dialects. My favorite is the cockney rhyming slang, because it sounds very creative.
Jeff…the British humor is mostly sarcastic, which is the best after physical (still like to watch The (original) Dick Van Dyke show episodes - also on RU-vid). Those of us who are not British or living there don’t get these jokes but just watching them make fun of each other is the best (medicine).
British humour is based on Witt and innuendo and quite charming. I also enjoy the series, Hitch Hikers guide to the Galaxy, the comedic routines are clear and simple and easy to fathom.
One is still alive, he joined in the final few seasons as a young man. Also a few of the secretaries. But the main cast is all gone. Most died in the past 15 years
No, not at all. They're at least some of us.. Although, we are the lucky ones, the ones whom don't have those memories back in the 90's....they really don't know what they're missing.
Me too. I used to watch this, Keeping Up Appearances, As Time Goes By, Waiting for God, and another one on the weekends with my mom. The innuendos used to fly right over my head at about 13 years old. Now, I laugh even harder at them, especially the cat jokes from Mrs. Slocumbe. 😆😅😂🤣
My mum in the early 70's worked in a store like this. When I was a little girl I used to be in the store with her on Sats I think sometimes...They had a ''canteen''...and my mum also worked on the ladies dept. (Sweets, in Stratford, if anyone remembers it...then part time in Fairhead's, Ilford). The dept store in Stratford paying system worked by ''barrels'' which the customers money was put in with the receipt, whisked around the store on little rails suspended from the ceiling, to one part of the store where the cash was paid, then the change was sent out again in return to the counter by this system. Sometimes I was allowed to ''pull'' the barrel to make it go....I can remember my mum actually fitting a lady for a corset in the fitting room...just like Mrs Slocombe!...Anyway, when this was first aired on uk TV, we used to guess which hair colour Mrs Slocombe would have in the episode we were just about to watch!
@@Tempe1962 if you watch the documentary on SELFRIDGES and the man who made it famous they show you the system. very ingenious...that was ages ago...i think.. Selfridges was started by an American ...But sadly he died penniless due to woman and drink...Same old story..sad
When they're "hailing Hitler" as Grainger goes by is funny as shit. Heck, they're all so smartassy and quick-witted..I love it when she (Mrs Solcombe) gets PISSED lol like everyone else I been watching this I vaguely remember it as a kid reruns in 90s.I came here after watching Mr. Belvedere yesterday and have watched like 20. I agree the good one was when they hired Mr. Goldburg and he had been in the army with (Corporal P. instead of Capt. P) he had a pic with him and a tattoo that says "Deathbefore Dishonor"
Imagine Grainger delivering the line; Winston Churchill is at a Party 🥳 and a Woman says; "You Sir are Drunk ! And You Madame are Ugly, tomorrow, I shall be Sober !" ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6jjhxeHIjvU.html
i always watch british comedies to perk me up if i AM having a bad day...always cheer me no end...i go to bed happy...I watch are you being served, dads army, aint half hot mum, some mothers do have em. on the buses, and steptoe and son. The older comedies are the best.....AND I am unanimous in that :)
jessie james in Australia, we only get American shows these days. I think they have a different sense of humour to us and the English; they don't hit the spot like the old British comedies. I love Dad's Army, especially Lance Corporal Jones! 😊. DON'T PANIC!
Needed a pick me up and since laughter is the best medicine, I couldn't flip to these videos quick enough! Love AYBS!! Thanks so much for posting! Absolute classic show with an outstanding cast!
I love classic British humour! I remember watching this on PBS in the 80's after school. I just loved the double entendres, witty banter and slapstick; best comedy I had seen since Monty Python.
I will always have fond memories of this show. I remember coming back late Saturday evening from college football games and my mom would have it on PBS. Ah ... good ol’ Brit Night.
I love how they constantly make fun of "Old Jug-ears" and consider him an inept fool, but once they find out that they can have it MUCH worse, they recognize what an benevolent boss he is.
This was one of my favorite episodes. And the ending was good, too. :-) ANOTHER episode with a clever ending was when Ms Slocombe thinks Mr Grace wants to marry her, only to discover he wasn't interested in her at all, so she told everybody SHE turned HIM down. :-0
This episode I never saw it before. I think Author was a great actor, really believable, and this was poetic justice for how he was treated in an earlier episode where Captain Peacock reported him for being five minutes late from a coffee break.
There were some characters that were interchangeable like the various Secretaries or Mr. Harmon & Mr. Mash. Each was great in thier own right and I can’t choose a favorite between them. But I do think Mr. Grainger‘s character was perfect! None of his replacements ever really had his comedic timing or could quite measure up in comparison. Mr. Grainger>Mr. Goldberg> Mr. Tebbs>Mr. Klein
Apparently a lot of the days ended with the cast having drinks together, and they'd have a large party at the end of each series. It reminds me of the original "Match Game" during which a lot of the cast were frequently drunk already.
kai...oh my god! She's hysterical, and especially when acting drunk! I have a cousin who could be a twin to Molly...when I first got married my husband suggested the similarity but he's such a joker I didn't believe him till I saw the resemblance.
🤣The 'Forward Mr Granger 4' episode is one of the storylines I enjoy every time I watch it, though there isn'y a one that disappoints my 'funny bone'.😆
Even though she was only in this episode, one thing I loved was the mutual flirting between Rumbold's secretary and Captain Peacock instead of just him being the creep.
Mr. Harman is my favorite and Mr Humpty's 💗 I love this show. Grew up watching them and now my kid's love watching them also. I love watching from the beginning to end
This is one of the few comedies that make me laugh from beginning to end. I could watch each episode again & again & id still lol. 😂😀 . there are not that many comedies made today that i could say that about.
Being a Brit living in the USA I love watching my British comedies. Thank god BritBox has the whole series but was nice stumbling across this and just having it on in the background. AYBS? is just one of the best to watch again and again because the actors have so much chemistry with each other. So many more modern comedies the comedy just seems forced - this is just so funny because they all worked so well together. God bless them all xxx
@@msbrowngault Absolutely, especially if you love classic British comedy such as Red Dwarf (Plus the new ones), OFAH, One Foot in the Grave, Vicar of Dibley, Are You Being Served? Are You Being Served? Again (Grace and Favour), The Thin Blue Line, Blackadder also they have the latest soaps such as Eastenders, Coronation Street etc .... lots of the talk shows / panel shows, then a classic Doctor Who section (Which is great), LOTS of Mystery / PI / Police Drama shows such as Boon (Which I still love and think the theme is one of the best in a TV show ever) and Poirot, if I remember right Marple is in there and lots of others. For ME it is more essential than Netflix.
@@msbrowngault ABSOLUTELY - ALL BRILLIANT, I could literally go on for paragraphs on my favourite Britcoms, there are so many classics. There's a few US ones I like such as Cheers, Frasier, Hot in Cleveland etc ... but you can't beat the classic British ones :)
Agreed. I watch this. I also watch reginald perrin, hyacinth bucket, m*a*s*h, 2 ronnies, etc etc. Good clean comedy, with no F word, or half naked women.
Mr. Harmon holds the place together. I despise the way Peacock and Rumbolt constantly treat him crummy by kicking him bluntly out of their departments.
Not sure how old you are but it was customary that certain roles were not allowed on the customer floors during working hours. Mr Harmon, Mash, etc. were breaking protocol. Harmon reading the notes from Mr. Grace's garbage can should have been cause for dismissal. There is a very long history of this expectation (Dowton Abbey, Upstairs-Downstairs, etc.) that 'cellar-people' did not cross paths with the customers. Sadly, this is no longer respected and every cook and bottle washer expects to be the star of the show. Love how this was used as comic relief.
