The Guardians/ Dolan don't own Progressive Field. The city of Cleveland does. Maybe you should have your facts straight before you drag the owner under the bus.
@@ericjencson9489 That's BS, So the City of Cleveland said to Dolan, "Oh, we'll spend spend millions on renovations and cosmetics, but we WON"T give you some of that money to bring in some good players?" That's is the most ridiculous excuse I've ever heard!!LOLOL
I think the reason WHY we were bottom half of the league in attendance in the teens is because we knew we had ownership that really wasn't committed to winning. That team in 2016 won in spite of the Dolans and everyone knew it. In the '90's on the other hand, we knew the Jacobs' brothers were deeply committed to winning. And we rewarded them with 455 straight sell outs for the teams they put on the field.
ownership wants to assemble a team to win the division only. they've never really gone all in for a WSeries. after Lindor leaving, they went crazy drafting Infielders and can't draft power OF's. why? with the surplus of infielders we try to convert them to the OF...... it's pathetic and annoying.
The fact that anyone mentions Josh Bell and Zunino as key free agents is sad. I get we won't get the top tier free agents but we can't get 2nd or 3rd tier. It's garbage pile and reclamation projects for us always.
Nothing will change until MLB imposes a cap and floor system like in every other professional sport. With that being said, Dolan can and should spend more.
"not spending this offseason?" When have they ever seriously spent? Jose gave them a sweetheart deal or he would be gone! They have traded away all stars and for the most part have got a bag of chips to show for it. When they do spend, it is half measures and filler pieces. They could have had a dynasty in they would have added starting around 2015 or so. Instead they put out a product that is just good enough to be entertaining. With the pitching they have and have had, all it would have taken would have been a deep lineup that could produce offense. Instead the profits all go to Dolan. In addition, we lost our team name and heritage. Oh, and double speak and excuses.
The biggest issue is revenue. When there’s no salary cap to even the playing field. Small market teams can’t compete. Blame lies at the feet of the players association and the big market owners who set up this system.
getting a guy with a career batting average under .200 cannot be considered a move you think is going to put you over the top....Bell was a solid pickup that didnt work out and cost the guardians dearly, but can we just stop pretending zuninio was any kind of pickup? Bell wasnt a superstar or anything either...Also you can't go 10 years being close to a contender and not spending, spend 1 year and expect an immediate boost in attendance, it takes time to build the trust that your going to spend money.
This fan base love their underdogs, don’t they? Hedges, Clement, Owen Miller recently. Some people still think Straw should play everyday even though he can’t hit.
Spending money is just a smoke screen...they had the opportunity to trade Bieber and Klase for hitters and we would not pull the trigger many teams have a need for closers and starting pitching, and we could have got hitters for them...18 home runs we had from our outfielders!!! let that sink in a minute..last in OPS, last in RBI's.....pitching is only good if you wanna win games 3-2 or 4-3..other wise you need HITTERS!!!!
A more rabid fanbase would have run the Dolan family of town with pitchforks and torches years ago. In addition to the TV money, there is also a luxury tax levied against high salary teams that gets disbursed to the smaller market teams. It's no where near comparable to the revenue being generated by the $200M+ TV deals, but Dolan is benefiting from that and still not spending money. Dolan may not be cash flow rich, however he can take short term financing to build the team- he has leverage based on the 5x increase in the team value since his family purchased it. He's not doing enough- bottom line.
The skepticism of Arias is unfounded. Dude has hit well at every level of the minors with consistent at-bats. Tito never gave Arias the long look that he needed and now they need to know what they have between Arias, Rocchio, and Freeman. They committed to Myles Straw after he had one MID season but now they need to see what they really have with Florial, DeLauter, Valera, and Jonathan Rodriguez. This is also the manager’s first season. So I do agree, we need to see what we have at home before this front office goes shopping for the wrong guys in free agency again. I didn’t even mention Manzardo, Juan Brito, and Jhonkensy Noel. The Guardians farm is STACKED with guys that deserve a chance now. That being said, Bellinger and Montgomery would look good here.
When you have a 200 million dollar payroll difference between 2 teams how can anyone assume its remotely fair. MLB is dying with the youth and they are yet to find a way to revive it. NFL and NBA have no problem marketing but the MLB stuck in the mud and falling further behind.
Thank you for this Jay! There are not enough people that discuss this topic as Dolan not having the money to compete in the ownership arena. Instead the conversation is based on them being cheap, when quite honestly I don't think it's a matter of being cheap, but rather a byproduct of not having the financial assets to go out and spend. Their minority ownership stakes with Sherman and now Blitzer kind of lend credence to this fact too, they recognize their shortcoming financially. Which makes it all the more disappointing the Sherman share never converted to full ownership before he bought the Royals. Can't wait for the Blitzer group to take over in full. And that's as someone who thinks the Dolan's have done more good than bad.
It has been since the Manny Acta era that I have been less excited about a season. We have a weak division. We could have made the playoffs last year, and punted. As a long time fan, that pissed me off more than anything. Why am I watching when you punt on the season 1/2 game out of first in a winnable division. Sell the freaking team if you can’t spend money.
selling. see you in 6 years when they are actually decent and get destroyed by a big market team. 2016 was an anomaly and they had their chance at glory. never again. not with this majority ownership group.
How many World Series have the Yankees won lately? It the Mets. Or the Red Sox. Yet they’re always at the top of the spending list. Money isn’t always the answer. Also, I love how these clowns always spend other people’s money. Maybe there’s a reason Dolan is rich and G Bush isn’t.
There is no money to spend. What do you expect? Everyone wants to complain, but they don't want to support the team. The tv revenue stinks, nobody goes to the games. Look where the attendance is? More lost revenue. You want to get rid of Dolan but no one in their right mind would buy this team and run it any different.
@brucetowell3432 it's a business. There is a profit and loss statement. We aren't the Yankees or Dodgers that can spend ridiculous amounts of money on free agents. It's never happened in the past and it won't happen now. It also wouldn't happen with a different owner.
@@ericjencson9489 Look here, been following the game for probably longer than you have been breathing. I remember what George Steinbrenner said when the Yankees were tearing up the league with Jackson and the like back in the 70's...."Had I been allowed ( MLB stiffed him) to purchase the Cleveland Indians Reggie would have been hitting homers into Lake Erie" of course this is sarcasm but you get the point. Bring in the players and the folks will COME. Dolan cries, well if the fans show up then I'll spend some money, which is half assed backwards. We had sell outs for years back in the late 90's till 2001. WHY?? Cause we had Hall of Famers at over half of our positions. Show me where I said we need to spend like the Dodgers!!??? The owners like it the way it is!!! If they didn't they would vote for a cap. We had the chance this past winter to trade Bieber and Clase and get a couple of powers sticks in here that could rake......"Oh we wanna see what our farm kids can do"...great If I wanna see farm kids I'll go down Akron. Wonder how season ticket sales are going? With this horrible woke economy we have been trying to get thru. 11 homers between our outfielders last year, let that sink in a minute. We did NOTHING to improve, there is no sense of urgency with these owners. Spending millions on renovations but nothing on hitters who can rake. Spending millions on a failed Senate seat. Oh yea these owners want a really good club here. Give your line of BS to someone else, not me.
Please stop calling them Cleveland Guardians they Cleveland Indians Chief Wahoo. If Cleveland?don't want their Indians fans it their loss Go Cleveland Indians Chief Wahoo 😊😊😊😊😊😊. It shows poor leaderships from ceo front office again, again Image that 😊😊😊😊😊😊
Jay thinks he’s an expert on everything. When you filibuster, you come across as an expert. Stop with the tv deals. Tv isn’t tv anymore. These franchises won’t broadcast the games on anything but cable. They are missing thousands of fans by sticking with cable. My kids are 12/13. Because the games aren’t on tv every night like when I was growing up, they are missing out on dollars. These are kids that would buy tickets down the road. Guess what. They won’t now.
@@MassillonObie Back in the early to mid 60's I paid .25 cents for 5 packs each pack had 5 cards and a big stick of gum!!! .5 cents per pack!! counting for inflation that same pack SHOULD sell for .50 cents!! 30.00 for six cards!!!??????? That would be like spending 3 dollars for a nickel pack back in 1965. No one would have spend 3 dollars for one pack! Can't believe folks would pay $30 for a pack, unbelievable.
