Wow... props to you sir. I've been drawing for... (lets just say many many) years. And in all the years of art classes that I took, this was something never taught. But this does make a lot of sense. Always something new to learn no matter how old you are! Cheers!

This is a great epiphany video, and you are absolutely right. To round up all you said there is something really important to add: the long axis of the ellipse is perpendicular to the axis of vision, and that is why it is more inclined in very hight views as in aerial views. It is vertical if you look at the weels lowering your eyes to "weel level" I could only understand this after watching your video, si thanks Liron!
@LironYan
@LironYan 3 года назад
Great observation! The perspective lines flattens as we lower our point of view, and so the long axis becomes vertical! Thank you for sharing 😊🙏🏼
@leif1075

@@LironYan isn't everything younsaid ambiguous? The whole time I thought the line connecting the two tires referred to the teontires onnthe SAME side of the car..like front passenger and back passenger onnthe right side for example..doesn't this apply also..because the axis of the tire could be turned in any direction not just perpendicular to that axis that crosses from one side of of car to the other..

Oh wow. I'm so blown away. That is exactly what I was constantly wondering how to fix my car's tire issues. Thank you so much. That video made my day. I now need to put that into action.

Cool! I knew the vertical ovals were wrong, and read some quite complex explanations of how to do circles in perspective right. This is much simpler and practical! I will practice this and stick it on the pinboard over my drawing table! I just put my empty glass on its side and study the top with one eye closed...🤣

I knew about the slant.. but I never knew how much to slant. Until now. 👍👍. Thanks so much for this little but extremely valuable piece of information. I can already see my arches when I draw architecture improving drastically.
@LironYan
@LironYan 3 года назад
Yes! So happy you found another application for this 😁 Arches have another trick to them, that you may be aware of - finding the center of the arch, and then connecting the sides. I can also show that in a future vid. Thank you for watching 😊🙏🏼

You're right about the wheel's ellipse axis: Must be tilted to become strictly perpendicular with the rotation axis (on the paper). But wrong about that yellow line (that axis), joining both rear wheels: It is NOT parallel with your "red line", because both are converging to the vanishing point, therefore can NOT be parallel. You have to tilt the yellow line a bit also...

You explained it nicely and simply! I have always struggled to sit through books that breaks down perspectives of cars, but you made it very digestible and straight to the point. Now I understand more about long axis and notice in my drawing where I got it wrong! You're a legend! ♥️

Excellent excellent reminder. I can’t say how many times I have done that even painting the wrong perspective. I just leave the tires out of my mind then when the perspective fits I readd in the tires. That approach helped me a lot. I could really show some bigtime oops in this. Please stay safe!

yea there's a bit of positive rear camber in classic 500s .. imagine drawing some other newer hatchbacks that come with negative toe and negative camber in the rear or similar alignment... a pain in the ass. Edit: just how you trapped the car in a cube you need to trap the front and rear wheels in a long axis.

This method is very effective but it also relies on your ability to pinpoint where the axle is compared to the car in perspective. An easier way is to draw a box in perspective where the wheel goes, trace the diagonals and use them as the two axis for the oval. I think this method is more effective because you know you want the oval to touch all 4 sides of the box.
