@@griffinsells2611 Lighter wheels make a big difference, and the new FI wheels look great especially for the price. Also same reason people buy lighter flywheels.
WAIT...Can we get a moment to appreciate, how frekin' bomb their lighting is? I mean talkin' bout' fitment. Let's talk about how well they pan their images to make it look like a still picture is being recorded, an an and how the key light is being radiated at a 45, the fill light is there and the gorgeous red and blue practicals are mwah. btw your editor is killin' it.
I actually never knew that wheel weight mattered. That's crazy Gels but thanks for the tip, I might need that information because I plan on trying to buy my first car soon. I am tired of driving the boring 2003 Toyota Camry LE that was handed down to my father aka he thinks it's a cool car. I am not trying to sound ungrateful because it does get me from point A to point B in terms of going to work every single day. I am currently saving more and more money while simultaneously not trying to spend things I don't need.
One thing that would deffo make your car slower is walking out and seeing your ride on blocks. Sounds like FI need a video on what people should look for in a wheel lock.
Wheel weight does matter. Love my m3 even more when I swapped from Arc-8's, which are decently light to volk te37 rt's. The RT's are the lightest ever at 17lbs on 18x9.5's squared. The unsprung weight reduction was night and day. Steering was way more responsive and connected as well as acceleration was improved.
wheel weight is the reason it's hard to upgrade from my stock 04 sti wheels. bbs did a great job, and honestly entry level aftermarket wheels aren't as nice as the stock bbs's and would be a downgrade.
been daily-ing a set of budniks for 15 years now... very durable & relatively light... love yalls videos & the new elders are georgous! thanx & god bless
Unsprung weight is a killer. My 19x11.5 volk gtc with tyres were 45kg+ each corner no dramas. Made turn in response shithouse. The 16x7.5 stockies with decent semi slicks turns it into a completetly different beast.
18hp and 21ft-lbs gained to the ground from saving 17lbs per corner is better than some intakes/exhaust upgrades will give you lol, not to mention the handling improvements...wheels are so worth it, very informative video!
I got Gramlights 57DR on my car but wrapped in 265/35/18 and they weight almost the same as my stock Si wheel 😭 if I went with even a 255 or 245 maybe they’ll feel a lot lighter than what it is now lol
Yeah, got some Cosmis on my 86/BRZ. They are basically the same as the stock wheels, so It didn't make any difference in my ride. Edit: I still want a set of the new Artisa Wheels :)
Maybe a heavier wheel can effect braking and acceleration? More braking power to stop, and more gas to accelerate.. maybe less MPG🤔 I have some heavy wheels but it’s only a cruiser 😅
Maybe go over the different brands/styles of forged wheels, cast, rotary cast, the costs and what is used in racing versus what's used in everyday style. Talk about the famous forged wheels used out there and the hidden ones. I've always wanted to know the different types of forged wheels there are out there as I am in the market of buying some. Other than TE37..... Seeesh
Wheel weight is important to me beacuse when I'm trying to save weight without getting my full car on my sc300 aka the chunky supra, I need to find outher ways. I cant decided what wheels I want but I do know I want somthing lighter than my stock
I think it wheels weight matters more, since it's unsprung and it rotates (more inertia) If you remove 10lbs of whell weight and put these 10lbs in the trunk, the car still weights the same in total, but performances will be better. So saving 10lbs in wheels is not the same than saving them in car weight, it's better ^^
@@giovannipomarico2035 LOL I did not say witch maters more, I said ROAD QUALITY matters the most, at least in my money pocket, I rather replace cheap tire than expensive wheel. Something matters even more than everything mentioned (in my opinion), that is REGULAR MAINTENCE of your vehicle witch most people tend to forget. For an example; If your suspension/brake parts stop working properly it won't matter what wheels you have on your vehicle.
The single most significant modifications that you can do to any vehicle is wheels and tires. That one modification completely changes the look and attitude of the vehicle.
When purchasing aftermarket wheels wheel weight and tire weight has always been something i consider. I remembered purchasing a set of wheels and they made my car feel lethargic and corner terribly. I promptly sold them and sought out some lighter wheels.
The way i see it is if I’m spending the money I want more than just looks. If they make your car slower there’s really no point unless you’re just going for a show car. Lighter wheels will also make your car more fun.
I've been doing research on wheel weights every time I look up wheels for my civic hatchback on your site. The frustrating thing is that there is sometimes conflicting info on what wheels weigh what and sometimes certain wheels have zero info on weight wherever you look. I've found that Konig is the best for providing their weights.
I was gonna buy a 2010 335i but ended up buy a carbon fiber trunk and hood for my g and now I can’t afford the bmw lol all because I was obsessing over the weight of my g
A better way to sell lighter rims for performance is by giving an example. Such as, depending on the rim that was on previously, lighter rims can drop 0-60 times by 0.1 of a second to sometimes even 0.5 of a second. On top of that, throttle response will be better at 1st and 2nd gear, most people's favorite gears to be in. Not to mention that an engine struggles more to spin 1lb of rotational mass than it does to move around 2lbs of static weight(depending on wheel size changes too), thus dropping 5lbs per rim, will feel like dropping 40lbs off the car.
Getting lighter wheels has been the best thing I got my car. When I fist got my car it had 25lb 17 inch rims and man did it feel sluggish and also it couldn’t maintain speed easy. I’ll let of the gas and right away the speedometer would start to drop. Now I have 14 inch rims weighing 12 lbs. I’ve seen a significant improvement in take off speed and the time it takes for the speedometer to drop when I let my foot off the gas making it better for fuel economy since my foot isn’t always pressing down to maintain speed. I would always encourage people to take the lightest wheels possible. Also when I was shopping for wheels a lot of the manufactures who don’t list the weight on websites usually would tell me over the phone if you just ask about it.
The heavier wheels should maintain their speed for longer than light wheels actually... The problem with heavy wheels is changing the speed, maintaining the speed is not an issue. Also, what you "win" by taking your foot off the gas you lose when you accelerate again.
Id say if i was strictly focusing my car on track use id spent extra dollar on everything through out the car to save weight. However being a street car that has never seen the track and just goes on spirited drives in the canyons i dont see it as a priority for my build. im actually considering some new wheels just because i want something different and something that can fit more tire.
Just as important as lighter wheel weight for improved suspension dynamics and lower moment of inertia for improved angular acceleration of the wheel is lower tire weight. Using tires that have belts made of lightweight Aramid(Kevlar) fiber, instead of steel, will result in tires that are lighter and that are lighter in exactly the place where you most want mass removed, in the periphery of the tire where the reduction in the tire/wheel assembly's moment of inertia is greatest. Replacing the Bridgestone Potenza S007 tires that were the Nissan OEM tires on my 370Z with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires resulted in about a 6 lb reduction in tire weight. This was achieved in large measure by Michelin's use of this synthetic fiber in its belts on this tire. I currently have the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 (240) tires that are similarly lightweight. I am also installing a set of forged magnesium monoblock wheels from Litespeed Racing, for a weight reduction of about 9 lbs per corner, over the OEM forged aluminum wheels. The 19 x 9 & 19 x10 wheels are weighing in at about 14 lbs. Future plans include the replacement of the one-piece steel brake rotors with two-piece aluminum hat ones that should shave an additional 5 to 10 lbs of weight off of each corner. I'm putting CNC machined billet 7075-T6 aluminum lug nuts on the car and will eventually replace the steel wheel studs with titanium ones.
This is very educational topic. I don’t understand some of the modified cars I see in California would heavy chrome rims then carbon fiber hood on a sport car. SMH 🤦
I was just about to get rims, and maybeeee a carbon fiber hood for my Impreza too. 😅 I know the carbon fiber hood won’t help a lot, because the car is already really light. But it looks cool though 🥺
I've been trying to find the right combo for my 03 5.9 2500, Stock wheel and tire weight on 31" 17x7 steelies is 88lbs a corner on a 265/70/17, I want to go wider to at least a 10" but the wheel needs to be lighter than what I have to give me enough margin to play with on a larger tire size 33" or 35". If im lucky I'll just break even with no net change on the weight and a wider setup. If I can't find a set with the right specs I have a Superstar Lodio Drive 3 piece set from Japan hanging on my wall that I'm considering getting a fill and re drill from the 5x137 to an 8x6.5 with forged lips and barrels.
I also feel like if u have a spoiler it adds weight top of the rims nothing wrong with lighter rims they are all sexy spoilers is the hard one to get rid of
Me not wanting RPF01 and watching this video because I can't find anything light and staggered that would fit my car:( : So RPF01 is the answer then? RPF01 Behind me: Always has been
Your best bet unless you’re going to spend unholy amounts on wheels is cast or forged aluminum, they transformed the way my car drives, they’re lighter than factory by a huge margin and a lot bigger
