It was hot and buggy down along the Kaw River Friday afternoon when Jacob Jolliff ‪@jhdjolliff‬ and I were in Lawrence, KS for the most excellent Kaw River Roots Festival. We were in full-on Jim & Jesse mode with this Louvin-penned song Are You Missing Me, which was the first J&J hit for Capitol Records back in nineteen hundred and fifty-two. Different hairstyles, same great song.

I first heard Jacob Jolliff play when he performed in his Dad's band at the Elsinore Theater in Salem, Oregon, about 2010 or so. Jacob was about 12 at the time. I hate to admit I wasn't expecting much when they were introduced. A 12 year old kid playing mandolin? It seemed cute, they would get some polite applause, but that's about it. Wow, was I wrong! He blew me away and impressed everyone in the theater that night. Never had I seen someone play the mandolin and rarely look at the fingerboard as his fingers danced around. I've been a fan ever since! Way to go, Jacob!!

We played there in 2002 also, I was the guitar player for them at the time...Jake was about 15 at the time....that is when you probably saw us.

I thought I heard a quick ode to Jesse’s break at around 2:25. Great stuff as always you two! My banjo player Phillip Jenkin’s uncle Hoke played banjo on that track I believe. Phillip still brings the original 5 string rb6 that was played on that track to band practice. It’s the only one accounted for that he knows of. Cheers!

Great but even so it reminds me of something we are currently missing in music which is brother harmonies. Although technically very good performances it seems that brothers still have the closest harmonies. Of course none of that seems to matter in our overly produced music anymore. Not picking on you guys. Just an observation. You done good.
