i agree with you @stephenkerr2646 reason they don't look like pancakes also costly you can go into foodplus a poland store in your area and set of pancakes with meat in them and very tasty also as alots of different fillings in the pancakes and price we can afford.
Curry were my favourites also. If your are going to try them again I can vouch for the Iceland own being closer in taste to the original Findus. Granted not the healthiest vitamin packed foods we should be eating 😅😅 but deffo a nice through back to the 80’s
They're not the original Findus ones though! 😆 The fact that the crispy pancake-style is still going after about 60-odd years is quite something. Another great one, Gaz 👍🏻👍🏻
This brings back some memories. When the Findus ones first came out, we told mum we liked them & so she got them at least twice a week. There was only cheese/onion & minced beef back then & we got sick of them, but didn't wanna say so. When they brought out a curry one, we thought it was really exotic....😂
Never had crispy pancakes. My Mum would never buy stuff like that. She was a ‘from scratch’ woman. Think they were Findus back in the day? Great review G… I knew just from looking at the filling which one I’d prefer. ☺️
I love crispy pancakes. It's something I've not had in years , isn't it funny how you forget about certain foods further down the line of life ? Good vid as usual , and top notch analysis 😊
I used to love the many tasty varieties of Findus Crispy Pancakes as a kid but I tried these Birdseye beef & onion and the cheese ones a while ago and they both tasted the same - of absolutely nothing! They've got less salt and additives but they were rubbish. Bring back the 1970's chemicals⚗🧪☠
Thank you Gaz great review 👍 I'll give them a go 😀 Back in the day, it was Findus who made the crispy pancakes, chicken curry ones 🤤😋 beef-n-onion, and chicken-n-ham, my kids loved them, but they stopped making them😔 Have a lovely day Gaz❤
On a price comparison you can have 2 Iceland ones for 1 birds eye one and therefore get more percentage of beef/onion. You would want a full box of either mind as they are only small. They are maybe a freezer filler if your stuck for what to have or again if on a budget its another string to the bow. The Iceland did look a little more appealing.
Wow not had funis pancakes in years. I lived off them as a child. Just by looking at the filling i knew the icelands ones would be much better. With the costs going up so much with everything, people are now shopping more wisely. Great vlog as usual.
Crispy pancakes where my favourite as a child despite the temperature inside being similar to lava. They disappeared for years and when they where reintroduced I was so disappointed as they tasted hideous with tasteless meat gloop inside. Tried the Iceland ones a few weeks ago. Rather bland and little meat but for £1 for four, pretty decent value.
Hi mate, I very much enjoy your reviews, I've had 2 major strokes so I only cook in microwave or air fryer & your air fryer reviews are good. I lived in Japan for 16 years and I love Japanese food. Keep up the good work
Thanks Gareth. I'll give the Iceland one's a try. Birds Eye one's looked horrible inside, light coloured? For a quid they're a bargain. Especially if money is tight and you have a few kids. One each of them with some beans and bread. Just looked and iceland do four flavours of them. These, cheese, cheese and ham and cheese and mushroom, so something for everyone!
Used to love a Crispy Pancake back in the day, risking the skin in the roof of your mouth with the molten filling. Chicken and mushroom was my favourite. Love them in a sandwich; crap white sliced with lots of butter and a couple of crispy pancakes wedged in. Delicious! The filling in the branded version looked more like chicken curry than minced beef!
Gareth you have taken me back in time with these, 80s food they were a bit of a luxury back in the day,il def be trying them I think Iceland is trying thank you for the review ❤
Brings back memories when i was a kid, loved them back in day but had the birdseye a few years ago and were rubbish, so think ill give the iceland ones ago to see if better. Especially as a easy filler for a quid.
I stopped shopping in Iceland when there price hike was at its worst but a few of your reviews got me back in there .Got to say there own range is suprisingly very good and a bargain for the money I have these pancakes favourite being the cheese and mushroom love there pound range meals for a quick snack dinnertime .
i wouldn't mind betting it is all made in the same factory just with different ingredients and cheaper looking packaging used to love these when growing up Great video Gareth keep up the great work
Used to love those things ... May have to take a trip to Iceland - To be honest .. the Birdseye filling looked more like chicken swill .. lmao ... Thanks for another great video :D
I used to buy Findus crispy pancakes when my daughter's were little. My friends husband used to work there and got bags of 30 for £6. He got me fish fingers and mini pizzas too.Saved me a fortune.
I had the Birds Eye ones a while back, they seemed to completly lack any seasoning and yes they were soggy, I chucked them in the bin. I will give Iceland's a whirl.
Used to live the findus pancakes also back in the day "success on a plate for you"😂😂😄 great memories, will have to try both of these, cheers Gareth another belting review, keep safe and well always.
Hi BFG, I've done the maths on the beef content of the crispy pancakes, and you may be surprised that the birds eye ones have 60 percent more beef content than the other ones, hope this helps, the numbers can be misleading, your doing a great job, love the chanel
With the pound range you are going to get some products which will be hit and miss which is expected but overall you have got to say well done to Iceland for showing what can be done and buying a branded item doesn't mean much if someone can do a similar product cheaper and just as good
I used to love findus pancakes in the 80s when I was younger and loved them on sandwiches, weird I know. Bought them a few years ago during a nostalgia trip and was left with one question, where's the Filling?, all they were was pancakes with gravy filling.
Wow, this takes me back. Use to have these once a week when i was a kid. A quick an ease meal with peas and mash (or chips). And bang brown sauce on top 😋 Another top review 👍
Used to love the Birds eye ones Gareth but over the years the filling has become very tasteless so not had them for a long time. I will be asking my daughter to.popito Iceland to get me a couple of boxes for the freezer. Thankyou for your candid review, will let you know my thoughts on them when I get some at the weekend. Love your honest opinion you don't tell us what some might wish to hear you say it as it is, a man after my own heart. Keep up the good work & thankyou❤ Sarah Wigan
I’ve recently come across the Aussie version of Gareth, same down to earth kind of bloke, doing food reviews with the same terrible humor 😂 he’s called Gregg’s Kitchen, you should check him out Gareth, he’s very similar to yourself imo 😊
My favourite pancakes were chicken curry and cheese ones, used to love them with chips as well. Maybe promote wonky veg too,it tastes the same as normal veg xx
I had to do a comparison the other day - Sainsburys v Aldi Orange High Juice. I usually get Sainsburys but was horried it just went up to £2.15 a bottle and saw Aldi's was 99p so had to try it but didn't find it as nice sadly. So sticking with the more expensive one 😢
I've now tried the Iceland (not Birds Eye) Crispy Minced Beef and Onion Pancakes and they are really tasty. Next week I'll try the cheese and ham ones. Unfortunately, the website says all four varieties of the crispy pancakes are out of stock. Probably a lot of people have been going back to buy more. In the £1 cabinet there are also cheese and tomato or cheese and pepperoni subs, which you could review.
.....you are fast bringing to light, just how much Supermarkets are potentially playing with the customer. I would not be surprised, if this place in Ireland is a producer of many things and provides the big names.😎🍻
Hi Gareth, Thanks for sharing another really great review 👍the Iceland ones did look much better totally agree with you all in the name the same if you buy clothes or trainers all in the name ✨🙂
Gareth, you did it again! You were looking for the 'sticker' to find the source of the ingredients, that's only the location of the factory that assembled the ingredients and has no bearing on the source of the ingredients. Recall your own reviews of fish which were clearly labelled as Alaskan whereas the stickers were indicating British or Irish factories.
I love the way you ate half of the pancake, put it down, and then started on the other half as though that's going to taste any different! 🤣 Good on ya mate...spot on!
It all depends on the flavour and many own brand products are done in the same factory as the branded product. I haven't bought a branded product for over 30 years at first they were not as good as the branded products but just adding a bit more salt, sugar or margarine or tomato purée could get the non branded product tasting as good, if not better, than the branded product. I have made my own crispy pancakes before and they tasted a lot better than the shop bought ones
Used to eat these regular as. a kid, mum was a single parent and they would be a cheap tea for me, especially as a teenager, when she would be working when I got home, would have something like these, or a frozen pie, a few baked beans, and some smash, not sure if me now as a 20 year old would eat them, but Ideal,if you have nippers
I remember the Findas Curry flavour ones back in the early 90s they were Bangin Gareth!!! I think they should bring them back and the Ross stir frys from Iceland aswell, Bangin👌
There's nearly 40 percent more beef in the brand one than the Iceland pancake They are 5 and 8 percent of the total mass of the pancake, but beef vs beef there's a lot less in the Iceland one.
If you look closely at the labelling, it seems that beef constitutes 8% of the filling of the Bird's Eye, but 5% of the whole of the Iceland variant. That's probably a very similar amount of beef overall!
Our mum would get the minced beef and onion, and chicken and mushroom crispy pancakes, the minced beef one certainly didn't look like that mushy one though....it looked more like the iceland one and there was a good amount of it too. Doesn't look the same at all.
Bit of a blast from the past, the Findus Curry or ham and cheese crispy pancakes were the best when I was a kid.... I forgot they even existed, cheers.
