I’m Scott from Chernobyl Studios, and I’m just like you: a home studio musician and mixing engineer. From the beginning of my journey, all I ever wanted was to have a big, massive, metal guitar tone for my music.
In 2013, I started to study mixing and tone crafting more seriously so I could bring this desire to life. What I didn’t know was that I was venturing into a world of conflicting information and secrecy. Maybe it sounds a bit dramatic, but how many times have you seen a video on RU-vid that claimed you could “sound like the pros in minutes,” just to find out they have thousands of dollars in gear and plugins and really didn’t explain anything anyway? These videos never helped me get a better idea of how to create my guitar tones.
I wasted money on plugins I didn’t need, followed advice that wasn’t helpful, and made every mistake you can think of multiple times over. 6 years of frustration later and I now know what it actually takes to great amazing guitar tones.
You don’t need thousands of dollars in amps, heads, guitars, cables, pedals, or anything like that-you can even use completely free plugins. All you need is a simple method that you can follow step-by-step and practice. The Guitar Tone Mastery course is that method.
I also just released a BRAND NEW course, Metal Drum Programming Mastery, where I will teach you how to create the ‘feel’ of an actual drummer.
In this course, I’m going to not only teach you how to master the technical side of drum programming, but show you a 5-step system which will speed up your workflow immensely.
More importantly, you’ll discover how to make drum programming a CREATIVE and MUSICAL process, which you can enjoy just as much as writing guitar riffs.

for 32nd note double kick i found 90-110 range sounds at the very least, realistic. and when it comes to single strokes (that means traditional blasts) no more than 90 on cymbals while 80 on snare is the best way to go (that also depends on whether the library splits between rimshots and center hits, too). also for dominant hand it's always 8-16 velocities higher than the other hand. at least that's how i approach metal drum programming anyway!
@ChernobylAudio666
@ChernobylAudio666 3 года назад
Very much depends on the tempo! If it's very mid-paced like at 120bpm, it's quite realistic to play loudly since it's so slow. But the faster it goes, the lower the velocities have to come down, so you make good points!

If you can do that all why do you need any band at all. Just create the "music" you want, whether this sounds like the real thing is debatable. I am starting to wonder if audiophiles know they are listening to a computer as opposed to real music. What I can say it has absolutely no character at all. It is just a bunch of noise with no real dynamics at all. If you think about it I spent over $200K on a reproduction system for the enjoyment of music. Maybe I should have bought a mixing desk and a PC and a set of headphones and make "music"and sound like I think it should. Do I make sense? I am of the opinion just kill Phil Collins and make any drum solo you want. Poison every guitarist or better still kill all musicians, they are not needed at all any more. I am sorry, but my interest in hi-fidelity is fading at a rapid rate because I don't know or recognize what I am listening to any more.

Hello Nico, firstly this is Modern Metal Music, nothing 'audiophile' about it. This video is for people who don't have a drummer, working from home studios, who don't have access to a rehearsal room or a live room with loads of mics, maybe they still live at home with their parents or in a studio apartment or just want to create great demos, again without access to a live drummer. The kind of music you want is heavily represented in other videos on Warren's channel, what I love about his channel is he's not a snob, he brings people together. Maybe check out some of he videos involving Strings, Brass sections and tons of other videos Warren does, rather than find something you hate to comment on? Wouldn't that make more sense?
@thesongacademy5017

@@klauth_Yksyn you identify with audiophiles? Don't understand why someone would want to programme their drums who doesn't have the access and money to pay someone like yourself to track them? You mean the Master of Puppets album by Metallica? The one where Rasmussen had everyone detune slightly and play to a slowed tape, and then he sped everything back up again? It doesn't matter how it's done, only the final result matters. If it sounds good, it's music my friend. :)

@@ChernobylAudio666 Yeah Rasmussen did do that. I think todays possibilities are great. We're able to create complete songs, even if you don't have a drummer. Furthermore, I'm just assuming that this is just a small part of the complete picture and that you would bring in some dynamics tricks in order to make it sound more organic. We were sitting on the couch in the lounge and the video for a new Metallica song from the black album came on MTV. He asked me what I thought about it. I loved the "real" Metallica and hated that album and their short haircuts and I told him I thought it sucked and they sold out.
