Should you buy the iPad Air 5 or the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8? Can the iPad Air 5 compete with the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8? If you’re looking for a powerful, mid-sized tablet, there’s no question that the iPad Air 5 and the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 are two excellent options. They were released within about a month of each-other, they are similarly-priced - at least in the US - and yet they are parts of vastly different ecosystems. There are definitely some critical differences you should consider before buying one - and there’s one area where both of these companies could’ve done better.

I have both the iPad mini 6 and the regular Tab S8, and I've used the 11 inch iPad Pro M1. It's safe to say I really love using the Tab S8 most. Samsung really killed it

@@andreaborgogelliavveduti2303 mainly because of DeX mode. It's an unparaled feature not present on any other tablet in the market. I also got an S-pen included and keyboard cover in my bundling for free. I guess some people just can't see why one is better than the other unless they try it out. I'm just speaking from experience because I have both iPadOS and One UI 4.1 tablet

one of the main reasons Im choosing the s8 over the ipad is the storage size. In 2022, 64gbs just isn't enough for general usage imo. Unless you were strictly using it for work or school you'll most likely run out of 64gbs in a few months. Even though processor wise the m1 will probably be better long term but what's the use if you can't utilise the chip. As games get more developed in the mobile space so will their sizes. and it will probably take up over 20gbs easily heck some games already do with now. Which leave little storage for other stuff.

you'll likely upgrade before the chipset is obsolete anyhow. dont get into the future-proof fallacy these days. Things get cheaper every quarter due to seasonal and market calendar discounts. having said that, this space is still needing more competition.

Do you think editing 720p video smooth enough in tab s8? My iPad 8th is done a good job enough for me, I’m considering selling it since I don’t like the experience taking note/drawing with apple pencil since as you said it was like a hard tip on surface, and thats how I feel too, and I find the tip is too dull for me personally. It was also feel heavy and my hand mostly feel tired writing too long with it. I see that even ipad 8 have comparable geekbench result to tab s8, but I want to know if it was as smooth to edit video too?

while looking at ipad 64gb. it makes you think that 64gb is not enough. so you are thinking of getting the 256gb one. then looking at the price, it makes you think it's so close to the ipad mini. so you thought "ah i'll get the mini instead" but then 64gb is not enough. so you think to get the 256gb instead. but then the price is so close to ipad air, "oh i'll get ipad air instead" you thought. but then 64gb is not enough storage. you thought of getting the 256gb again. when you saw the price, it's so close to ipad pro. "oh i'll just go for the ipad pro instead". the end 🤣

As a grad student I think Samsung offers much better student discounts. During a specific sale or event it can be upwards of 30 to 40%. Right now I think it's at 20% because the s8 recently came out but I'm sure during the summer it'll be like 30% while apple usually always sticks to a 5 to 10% discount for students for their products.

Get the iPad Pro if you want power. Tab S8 if you want the pen in the box and versatility. The iPad Air is like the middle ground in the iPad lineup. It’s powerful but it’s just not all of the bells and whistles.

Agree with the storage view.. If iPad air have the 128 GB as the base, I'll definitely go for it.. But now only 64,a but worry, it might be at the edge of insufficient space.... So that makes tab s8 attractive...

I think this depends on target usage. For me the iPad Air 5 64 is for Lightroom editing which automatically uploads images to cloud and deletes it from local storage when it had finished it. Which means I can upload 500ish images and not worry about storage. My air has 44 gigs free so I need not worry about it to much.

What an in-depth comparison! It is not easy to score attributes like versatility and performance of both products without a critique of two devices. I am personally much into Apple's ecosystem and doing a great portion of my work and studies on its devices. Yet, everyday and after I am envying to those out of Cupertino's walled-garden since there is a lot of space is being and has been over many years left to the competitor. This is perhaps the most clear explanation why I am edging more into Samsung's appliances when it comes to tablets. iPad is not and has never been a creator device unless you are designer. Putting one on a M1 diet is clearly not a viable solution to alleviate those problems stemming from its core design features. It is no more than a bigger iPhone with a pen support. That does not mean that the alternative is ticking all the boxes. It has tons of missing features and above all it does not come with a solid five year and even longer major software update support.

I own an ipad mini 6, a tab s7 and an s7 FE and by my experience, the S pen feels better when using screen protectors (being glass or matte ones) since the tip is softer, the apple pencil works great but since the tip is hard, I find it a little bit harder to write with it, especially if you use a glass protector

I'm an artist, and I have a Tab S8 Ultra, and it's been great for cresting art, especially because I can use second display mode to wirelessly turn it into a display for my PC, which makes it into something closer to a cintiq, and gives you access to photoshop and other desktop applications, relatively lag free.

Obviously you do t get procreate or photoshop, but the full version of Krita is on there, and android has come a fairly long way in terms of drawing apps. I primarily use infinite painter. It's not as fully featured, but it has a lot of options for creating brushes, as well as the ability to download community made brushes, as well as some cool features for editing brush paths (draw a shape, then keep holding the pen still for a second at the end, and it'll turn into a brush path you can move the points of) The tip of the pen is also rubberised which gives it a bit of added friction. I never felt like I needed a paper like screen protector or anything, personally

IMO, if you already have a laptop that isn't macbook you should get the ipad air 5 'cause you can easily expand your laptop's storage via upgrading ssd's or getting a specific external hdd for your ipad air 5's contents. Also, if you don't play that much or not at all and you mainly do notes for it then the ipad air is good. Lastly, if you really don't care about those extra features regarding camera, and screen res, then air 5 is good. Now for the s8, it's a good deal if you don't have a laptop yet 'cause it basically functions as a semi-laptop. You can get more features and deals on samsung which saves you more money but if you have money to burn, just get whatever you want. I'm just talking about making your money worth it especially if you're studying. Overall, if you can sacrifice your tablet's storage by getting an external hdd and with your laptop, your money will be definitely be worth it. If you don't have a laptop, then get the s8 cause it's so better on deals and features.

I have a question. On the Tab S8, you can go up to ultra Hd in graphics for extreme frame rate, but on the air you can only go up to balanced graphics for extreme frame rate. IPS > TFT > AMOLED. Amoled has 2 problems. First one is eyestrain caused by pwm and the second problem is burn-ins. So you can either go for the S8 which has tft or go for the ipad air 5 which has ips. But definitely not s8+ and s8 ultra. You better go to a shop and try them by yourself.

really struggling to decide between these two. looking to replace my laptop, and I have an android phone and Samsung earbuds. in general I like android a lot because of the customisability, but I appreciate how clean iOS is. I also know that the M1 will be good for literal years. but I like the idea of Samsung Dex and the fact that the S8 comes with a stylus. but the iPad air comes in a really pretty colour that I like. help 😭

Same as my current situaition, but I think I'll more on s7 because of free pen and keyboard Most importantly to replace my laptop with dex I have tried to use ipad 7th gen to replace my laptop and it just couldn't done well. I'm struggling on my decision as well, but here's what I've got in my brain of them: S8: -$679.99 pen included -Is supported for 4-5 years -Micro SD for additional storage -Weaker than iPad -DEX -Better multitasking experience iPad Air: -$749 without Pen -Supported for 6 years or so -No adding storage -Stronger -Not as good multitasking

I just bought the ipad air 5 64gb and the apple pencil. I paid more just for the ipad alone than a 256gb s8 would’ve cost. And paid even more for the pencil. I’m seriously considering switching (the ipad and the pencil didn’t arrive yet). But in the end I think I’ll just stick to my overpriced kit just cus of the apple ecosystem, it will fit well with my other apple devices.

Please share an screenshot of 10 hours on screen on time of ipad air 5. I had it for 3 week's and i had only 5.30 to 6.30hours screen on time at brightness of aprox 40%. And i used it mostly for web browsing, RU-vid, and Clash of Clans game, so light usage. And also the display of Ipad air 5 colect smudges from fingerprint like no other display that I had or have seen. Now I am waiting the Samsung Tab S8...

I'll be buying a tablet this mid-year and I've been searching for tabs near 2 months. My first option was S6 Lite but I want a bigger size tablet, good chipset, good ram, 4 speakers and a headphone jack, since I will be using this for drawing. What do you suggest? I think I'll also stick to a cheaper price hehe

Hello! I’m looking to get a new tablet in the near future and I’ve always been an iPad user. I’m stuck in between the S8 and iPad Air. They both look and sound amazing! I’m wondering, does the S8 or Samsung devices in general take up a lot of storage? I think my Apple devices generally take up a lot of storage so I’m wondering if the tab S8 does too?

well storage gets used when storing apps or photos, im not sure what kind of file formatting apple uses, but i think apps will be the same size. so probably the same

I think the apps take about the same storage. However, the one advantage Galaxy Tabs have over iPads is a microSD card slot.

If you are a medical student like me, iPad Air 4 with more memory is way better than an iPad Air 5 with better front-facing camera, a newer chip but lesser memory for the same price range. You cannot feel the difference when you use Good Notes 5 / Notability, Canva, and Vllo. I have also used it twice during the interscholastic medical debate competition and I think iPad Air 4’s camera is still better than other tablets/laptops out there. And trust me, that extra memory is important when it comes to lectures because we have a lot of things to study. Of course if you’ll use it on gaming or video editing you might wanna consider the Air 5, but if you have extra why not go for the Pro models, right? So for extra memory with the same price range, I’d still choose iPad Air 4 over and over again until its iOs is not upgradable anymore.

@@joaof.c.6456 If you're using it to contrain all the electronic books, transcriptions, and video lectures, plus all the apps you need such as GoodNotes / Notability, VLC, Canva VLLO and others, it would really need to have more memory. Camera is just a plus cause in my case, I would rather use a phone taking shot at histology/pathology slides than using the camera of a bulky tablet.

S8 beats ipad air 5 except in CPU, I have iphone and trying to decide if S8 will last for 3-4 years or not with that set up. Any thoughts ? Also really appreciate in-depth comparisons !!
