Have you missed buried treasure in your family history search? This oft forgotten record of 491 volumes is a goldmine and may be the key to your family history happiness! Knowledge of this treasure is a MUST for genealogy researchers.
If you have family who lived between 1740 & 1850 in New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, Michigan, and Wisconsin your ancestors may be mentioned in the Draper Manuscript Collection. This record set is predominately on microfilm, but can be found around the country (a listing of all libraries with a full set is within the handout). The information about these records is scattered across the internet, yet this handout includes much of it as well as links to pertinent websites. IF you are researching family in this time and place and haven't looked at this record, you may have missed something crucial to your family history research!

Is there an index of places and surnames mentioned?
@AncestryAimee
@AncestryAimee 2 месяца назад
There are multiple indexes. But not everyone is even included. It is what makes this record set more difficult.
@KGTiberius

@@AncestryAimee dang. Then it is a bad index. I wonder if anyone has updated a complete index?

Love this collection. I am in DAR, descended from Edward Boone, Daniel's brother. The Draper Manuscripts are part of my proof. I live in Wisconsin, so one warm spring day I drove an hour to Madison where I got to go up to the 4th floor of the Wisconsin Historical Society and read from the original manuscript. It was an awesome experience to touch the actual pages!!! They are so delicate and the tiny writing in the margins made me so aware of how they used every inch of precious paper. So much cooler than the transcripts, although the transcripts are easier to read.

A fabulous set of manuscripts. It is tough to search, but so worth it. I’ve found so much about my ancestors in them. Absolutely source the set exceptionally well when you find something important because you may never find it again. That happened to me.

Oh! I have Drapers in my late 1700's to mid 1800's in Crawford county Illinois where I've hit a road block. We unearthed the headstone and cleaned it up of a Rhoda Willard Draper 1784-1849 buried in Draper cemetery Crawford county Illinois.

I wonder if they are related?? I would think he would have an interest in Drapers either way. LMK what you find!

I ordered the handout, but it doesn’t show up on my Etsy purchases, and the download on the e-mail either didn’t work , or I don’t know where to find it on my phone.

That's odd, I'm so sorry you've had trouble. Would you reach out to me on my website (ancestryconsultingbyaimee.com) and I can look into it. Etsy delivers the product, you can also reach out to them, but I can look for your order and we can figure it out.

I am interested in my Dad's ancestors. He was Italian American. His father came to America in the 1920s from Sicily Italy How do I take my Grandfather on back. My mom followed the history in the 1970s, but her work has been lost to time. We are supposed to be descendants of Caesar Augustus. Can I even go back that far in history with the technology we have?

You can go back pretty far, especially if you’re related to royalty. But you certainly can learn more about your grandfather and his parents and grandparents. I would imagine if he came in the 1920s and naturalized there will be a lot in his naturalization paperwork. I would try to get that.

@AncestryAimee oh, I probably should have said this is for Virginia Beach Public Library. Our Geneology Library is located there too. However, the catalog has it in reference, not the Geneology Special Collection. I haven't used either one before. Both my parents are transplants. I'm the only one who stayed, so I guess I'm the first VB native in the family. Other than the State Library. I can go look up something if you like. I'm only a mile from the Library.

I have a family reunion coming up! There will be about 40 of us and I am going to ask some questions to the oldest and 2nd oldest generations. What type of questions should I ask? The eldest will be 98 and the youngest at 32
