The only instances in which I am concerned with a stamp's value is when I can't afford it.

Wow, looks like the near complete sets of British Commonwealth King George VI 1946 Victory Omnibus series. And 1953 QEII Coronation stamps. Very nice!

I've just got back from a village hall stamp fair with my daughter and we had fun seeing lots of stamps and talking to collectors and dealers. Wow, the second package was unreal! Very great selection of stamps. The first bundle of stock cards with the British Empire stamps was the 1946 Victory Peace Omnibus set. It looks like the complete set. I have one and it looks beautiful on black stock pages. Also that Queen Elizabeth set was an Omnibus set also. I think the coronation set. Really great stuff.

i have been collecting Thailand stamps for the past 2-3 yrs. I'm just like you too, for the older and low-quantity print stamps I will price it 30% and under, and for the newer stamps, maybe 5-10%. since i still have some relatives living in Thailand, I'll ask them to buy for me (in Thai baht) instead online.

The Canada cards are nice! You got lots of fun material. And I agree with your percentages. I also factor in condition, but I buy most of my common items below 20% of Scott.

My rule of thumb, as an amateur dealer, is 20th century stuff in perfect condition, VF, prices at 50% cat. 19th century stuff in perfect condition starts at 100% cat and is negotiable. Again, only a rough guideline here. Anything post WWII is face plus a surcharge for overhead and margin. Bulk post WWII goes for about 60% face

I think in general that I’m gonna pay about 25% of catalog buying and expect to get about 10% on the selling side. Not that I plan to sell anything. Nice, generous trades. Hope you can find things that they will find equally joyous

I am a new collector, I think it is official now. I just got my first Lighthouse Stockbook today. And, waiting on some stamps to put in it. I have been buying FDC sets on eBay, really interesting stuff, but not valuable. Kind of funny, someone said that the PCS and other types like that are like the Beanie Babies of stamp collections. Anyway, I am having fun.

I think, more than 90% of the existing stamps are nothing or only a very small amount of money worth. I´m absolute OK with it, you can afford many stamps without any problem. The relation to the catalog worth relates with the country, when it is issued, the condition and if it has a valid certification. Every point influences how much people will pay for it. If you look at China, you have to pay till 1980 depending how popular the sets are up to 60% catalog value. If you take USA, a MNH from the Columbus set is always rare and many people want to have them. Same for the high values mint. But cancelled the low vallues you get quite easy for small money. The higher values cancelled only with a good cancellation are worth a good amount of money. Depending even within a set you have huge differences. I come from Germany and the first German is from Bavaria, the 1 Kreuzer black from 1849. Condition is everything. With this you start with 200/300 $ in poor condition, average condition with a normal cancel, but everthing OK, or mint in normal condition 1000 - 1200 $ and in excellent condition up to 2.500 $. I think, most prices in the catalog is something with 2.000 + EUROS. In my opinion prices for stamps are often not logical and they are variing a lot for the same stamp. Thank god I do not care about the prices of my stamps. It´s just a hobby and the fun with the stamps is much more worth than the worth of them. If I want to invest money, I buy shares.

I try to be around 10-20%. The condition needs to be really good if I would any higher than that.

The two stamps at 11:50 don’t belong to Germany proper, but they are from Poland under German occupation; issued in 1941. These stamps tell a story about the occupation. As part of Adolph Hitler’s efforts to erase the Polish culture, the Polish people were no longer allowed to use stamps that had any mention of Poland. They were forced to use stamps inscribed General Gouvernement and Deutsches Reich. Also, the four stamps at 11:55 are not listed under Netherlands. You will find them listed under Netherlands New Guinea. They were issued in 1954.

To add - APS certification does add value to your stamp as it offers addition precision and reputable support to the rating of condition and integrity of identification (this becomes especially important for such series as the Washington Franklins and early grills of US stamps).

Hi. That blue stamp with guy plowing is, I think, “Inkerman,” a section of Finland that was disputed with USSR…. Some nice stamps featured in video… packet from me mailed out a couple of days ago… hope you like ‘em.

Wauw, those KGVI all have a picture of Parliament on them, but are designated for all those places around the world. That has stopped me in my tracks.

If one's looking for return on investment buy real estate, they aren't making anymore except in Iceland. If you're looking for an fun, educational hobby that needn't be expensive try philately. I amassed a collection of 20000 over 60 years and I'd guessed 95% cost less than a dollar.The most I can recall spending for a single stamp was $10 for a 1927 Lindbergh airmail. The 1929 London Postal Congress and KGV seahorses will remain dream purchases. It used to be 25% of Scoii cat. Was the going price at shows in the 1970.

Thanks for another interesting video. Value mostly bothers me in far as knowing what I pay for a stamp is reasonable. Probably just a slip of the tongue, but the stamp at 20:34 is of South West Africa (Namibia) and not South Africa. And the stamp thereafter - Swaziland now is Eswatini.

I'm not a stamp guy. Confession time! I'm a rogue (benign) paper money collector! But i have to wonder why the price catalogues for stamps are pitched so high above what everyone appears to be prepared to pay? I mean what's the thinking of the people who set the prices in the catalogues?!

Yes, catalogs are great to have an idea of the value of your stamps but they are so expensive! Out of reach for me.

Would you consider doing a topical stamp subject for our start?

The rarest stamp is worthless if there's no demand for it.

Are stamps good investments ? I read somewhere that collect mint stamps for investment & used for hobby. Can mint stamps fetch a good resale value?
