Yes roundabouts are a car tyres worst enemy. New front tyres usually make steering far far easier, the more depth of tread you have the more rubber insulation you have between you and the road making the ride more comfortable too with a greater reduced chance of having punctures.

wearing on both edges, can often be caused by under inflated tyres. Over inflated will wear in the center.

Checking the spare and opting to buy two new tyres for the front might put you in a far better bargaining position even more so when buying four or five tyres.

Got the feeling a full tank of fuel helps more even weight distribution.

I believe the whole width of the tyre should have visible tread and the central three quarters at least 1:6mm.
