Yes indeed. I mentioned in an earlier post that I had a massive sinus infection so I missed some easy moves right in front of me, but I decided to leave the game just as I played it.

It's a great board to play on. There are also 20 levels for playing against the program itself if you don't feel like playing against a real person. I'm really glad I snapped one of these up when I did as they were doing a €100 off promotion at the time. Sorry for the late reply.

@@followyourpassion8378 Smartphone CPU sadly. I'd much prefer the AI to be integrated in the board, so when the app inevitably goes offline the board won't be obsolete

@@followyourpassion8378 Have not tried them. For now I've got my eye set on the Square Off Swap. I hope it will solve a lot of the issues with the kingdom and grand kingdom models

I think it comes across louder as the app is running on the phone I'm recording with here, but overall this newer model of the Grand Kingdom set is a bit quieter. The older model had some grinding issues from what some people have said online but I never used the first model so can't say for sure. As with all chess computers that move by themselves there are more sound issues but it never bothers me at all.

Based on the reviews I've seen, I think you are able to turn off the beeping, but I wouldn't recommend it, as the beeps indicate when a piece has been pressed hard enough to indicate a move. If you don't like the beeping, I'd suggest looking into the Square Off Swap, as it's set to release with magnetic sensors rather than pressure sensors. It's also said to be faster

It's one of the characteristics of autonomous chess computers over the years I guess. As with anything electronic that actually has moving parts, some are quieter than others while others sound like a jet engine taking off. In all honesty, as somebody who owns several autonomous chess computers from 1996, 2007, 2010, and 2018 (date of my Square Off model is December 2018) the sound is actually not all that bad and when you have been using them for a while you get used to it. For sure, the older model of the Square Off did have some people report a grinding sound issue, but those where the earlier models and I have to say mine has no such issues, at least not yet anyway. It's interesting, but the oldest chess computers to move by themselves, the old Milton Bradley and Phantom models from 1983 were made much more sturdier than chess computers made in the 1990's or 2000's etc. I don't have one of those but someday I hope to get one as they look fantastic.

Oh by the way, that 'tapping' sound you can hear in the video is from the pieces moving on the app on my phone, not the machine itself. :)

@@Ireland1229 I still think they're a pretty cool piece of technology even if it isn't exactly a new concept. I'd buy one if they weren't so expensive. Wonder if they are going to have any more types of board games that will have a computer opponent that can do it's own moves. That would be pretty neat

@@DarrinsDen2023 I got my Square Off with a €100 off deal around Valentine's Day, so it probably cost me around €300-and-something in total, plus postage. They still do special deals with them now and again. As for other games, I would also like to see some with self-moving pieces. As much as I love playing in tournaments and leagues over the board and online etc, I still love taking out 'ye olde' chess computers and having a blast.

Yes indeed. I had a massive sinus infection so the concentration was a bit off, so not surprised that I missed a move right in front of my face like that.

I wondered if maybe the board had a problem with promotion due to the lack of extra pieces, and it cant really know what piece you choose to promote to.

@@GhostShip94 Promotion works fine and I'm pretty sure it can underpromote too as the full board display is on the app running on my phone so you can see what it is that you want to promote to. The set also comes with an extra Queen for both colours. My version of Square Off is one of the newer models made after December 2018 as it shows the manufacture date on the box. These newer models don't have the excessive noise or the loud grinding issues that the original model had. The pieces are slightly different too as they don't have the white or black 'tips' coloured on top of them, they are a nice Staunton style set.
