For anyone considering these speakers ... for what it's worth, I compared a single 1723 Monitor S with a Klipsch RP600C and the 1723 had a MUCH larger presence, the detail in bass and treble was also considerable. I am using a TP projector screen and could easily localize the Klipsch positioning, which was distracting during movies. The 1723 produces a sound stage that's twice as large and more difficult to localize. I connected both speakers to my L/R channels and ran them as full size, level matched, with port plugs removed on the 1723s. I played various content and used the Left / Right volume mix within Windows to quickly switch between speakers. A single 1723s outputs a wall of sound, and the bass output was surprising for two 6.5" drivers in my space (15x17x8) that has a large opening to my kitchen area. I ordered another 1723s after the first day of testing, so I don't have opinions on imaging and sound stage while writing this.

I received and installed my 1723 Monitors this past Saturday. I would have used Erins link but I ordered them before the video came out obviously lol. Anyway, after setting them up and messing with placement and calibration, I am extremely happy with the sound. The detail and soundstage are immense. I was previously using emotiva T1 Plus Towers with a C2 plus center and these speakers are on another level altogether. Very happy with my purchase!

I commented on an older video about this. Currently, I am redoing the audio in my 2002 Lexus SC430. The shallow 8-inch sub is behind the back seat. Not a lot of subs can fit back there. Crutchfield recommended me a Polk, Audio Frog, and Focal. I was leaning towards Audiofrog, but I want your input. I will also be replacing the amp with a 5 channel Rockford Fosgate amp. I know I'm not going to get crazy low bass, but I want the best that will fit.

As a speaker builder I can say that this Dapolito design have this problem of dispertion, the dip near 1 khz can be corrected using 24 db per octave crossover but it will be much more expensive, that roll off at 12 khz for me is fatal because that is where the air sound from 10 khz to 13 khz and that is because is a soft dome tweeter, the soft dome tweeter that have beautiful top end at 12 khz are few, Dynaudio T-330 esotar tweeter fo example used on Eaglestone Andras & Sonus Faber Guarneri Homage are for me the perfect tweeter but is too expensive and only speakers more than 10k a pair will use it

Do you do a waterfall graph measurement? That’s important because it will show any cabinet resonance and driver settling time. With any box speaker, minimizing cabinet resonance is really key.

@BrentLeVasseur
@BrentLeVasseur 7 месяцев назад
@@ErinsAudioCorner What's the spin data? And I know you once reviewed the Kii Three Monitors which are far more expensive. Do you think these speakers can compete with the Kii Three for a small home studio desktop monitor for producing music? I’m considering these as a passive option and the Kii Three and Dutch & Dutch 8c as active monitor options, but the latter two are roughly 5x the cost of the Arendal.
@ErinsAudioCorner
@ErinsAudioCorner 7 месяцев назад
the SPIN data is just another term for “SPINORAMA” which is the CEA-2034 data. Look where the top 4 lines show bumps; those are resonances. The Kii gets down into 30Hz. These can’t do that. So I wouldn’t use these as substitutes for the Kii Three.

I wish you'd review the 1723 towers at some point. All the usual "suspects" rave about an unheard of (haha) near full range GIANT KILLER, whereas JoeNTell admitted they didn't perform as expected in the low end, especially considering their size and abundance of not-so-small drivers. I'm in the market for towers for a 2 channel setup, preferably with no subs, and am seriously considering them. Joe's remarks however made me reconsider, hoping to see more thorough measurements to validate his claim. They do offer a trial period, however where I live, I'd have to pay a 10% returning fee.

Talking about the FR graph of the smaller S’s you said that near a wall you’d get lot of bass boost. Which is good, I think kinda “needed” news … because (esp the f3) for their size their extension is surprisingly ordinary Memory refresher ;) their f3’s: the S is 75 Hz, and the bigger one is 58 Hz I’d think that unless you’re using subs, most people are likely to want to put them close or right in front of a wall So if they are placed near a wall what would your wild @ss best guesestimate be of how much the f3 might come down to? My WAG/ thinking/ hoping it might reduce those f3’s by ~ a third. If it were, say 30%, the f3 S would drop from 75 to 53 Hz. And the bigger one from 58 to 41 Hz How do those numbers strike you?

I spoke to their designers once. They told me they get this question everywhere, constantly, hundreds of times :) Why don't you do a 3 way center channel. They told me it was their decision as it is cheaper, smaller, and more effective. Withing a usual application, of around 30-degrees for all listening positions in a home setup, they told me their centers cover that up great. However, as we can see from the measurements, it's not so good. I would yet to see a center speaker with a good horizontal coverage of 40 degrees with an MTM design. So far, only Monoprice THX 365C and SVS Ultra/Prime centers can get things right, I believe (at least we know this about those from Erin's videos/research).

@TheLkdude

Think about it this way, 3-Way crossover design is complex and to get the best bass punch , you need bigger woofer drivers, so bigger cabinets! this is not going to work well with today's consumer base. @@Dalt1225 yeah, if the speaker is set up vertically, it won’t have the issue. Ideally all LCR setups should use the same speakers oriented the same way of course. Most people get horizontal center speakers though because getting a vertically-oriented speaker isn’t an option.

As the great Matthew McConaughey says, "Alright, alright, alright...." P.S. Awesome video, as always :) P.S.S. Regarding the larger ones falling off, I imagine those using them as LCR speakers fixed in place behind the screen (AT), in a home theater application with insulated treated baffle wall behind them. P.S.S.S. I do not hear anything over 16K already, thus, no issues with dips/peaks over 17K :)))) Basically, they use the same speakers for their Centers. Thus, judging from the off-axis response (vertical for the Monitors orientation), we have a good freqency coverage of about 20 degrees? That means they are only good for a main listening position. Damn, I thought their waveguide design will help with the dispersion. Moreover, Monopice THX 365C is TWO times cheaper than a 1723 S Center (basically a laid on a side 1723 S Monitor). 499$ vs 999$. I think we have a clear winner here, for the center channel.

I like to think the S means Sport. Like in the automotive world where the "S" or "Sport" always means the least sporty or base model which makes perfect sense 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Parts of this video is just off! I'll only adress the simple ones. I own the 1723 Monitors. No high frequency issues in my untreated room. No stability issues on stands because they are extremely heavy (HDF cabinets). They will not fall off stands. People always get hung up on measurements. How about try listening and using you ears. Speakers can measure perfect but don't sound that way. All the other equipment also affects the sound. By the way, prounced like "Arndall"
@ErinsAudioCorner
@ErinsAudioCorner 8 месяцев назад
Bruh. Arendal posts the same measurements on their site. Arendal also hasn’t refuted my review and they have - in fact - asked me to review additional products of theirs. If they thought I was as wrong as you think then they wouldn’t want me reviewing their products.
@lights80088

@@ErinsAudioCorner Problem is, it's all about "measurement". Maybe listening should be where the real truth is. Like I said, all the other gear affects the "sound" as well. This is something reviewers rarely mention, misleading people into thinking there review is the gospel truth. Measurements/numbers do not tell the whole story. When I purchased mine, the numbers meant nothing, my ears told me these were excellent speakers. This is why they are still with me.

@@lights80088Did you watch the review with audio disabled? He LISTENS TO THE SPEAKERS FIRST WITHOUT KNOWING THE MESSUREMENTS and then he makes observations of what he heard during his listening and he does listen to them for like a month straight before measuring. He literally has a 40 minute video concerning the songs he uses... I think you'd get a gist on what he listens for and stop being blind... He doesn't just start and say oh lemme measure and then use the measurements to form opinions. Subjectivists always say this weird thing about listening to the speaker and he literally is telling you what he heard in the first part of the video

Buy speakers based on what YOUR ears like, not on measurements.

Useless comment seriously. Measurements are a baseline, that’s it. It levels out the playing field to give you a rough idea of its quality without variance. Measurements are a starting point. It helps narrow down speakers that won’t work in your use case (like horrible off axis, not great on wall, needs a bit of space from the wall, low sensitivity) so you can narrow down speaker selections so you’re not swapping a dozen different brands and instead down to 2-3.
