Oh my God, I still can't believe I won!!!! :D I'm so happy! I've been following Arendal and their speakers have been on my Wishlist for a long time, especially the subs. I've been saving up to buy the 1961 1S sub and now I have even more reasons to do so :) Now I also have to save up for the center, surrounds and heights ;)

Klipsch together with Crutchfield are outstanding. I had both of my Klipsch R-115SW plate ampliers die. With 17 days left on 5 year warranty. Only 1 year warranty on the amplier. They were able to source me 1 brand new amplier. They took back the other subwoofer after 5 years of use and completely refunded me the full price as a store credit. That's why I've been a customer for 28 years.

A little too early in the morning for me to watch live but great to be catching up on things now!

Would've loved for him to speak to the 1723 Handbook's recommendation that the best multisub placement is to stack them in a corner, ideally floor to ceiling. I know Audioholics has put out a lot of content on getting good bass and how to multisub. I'd love for Audioholics to really engage with Arendal about this recommendation and ideally publish some testing to see if there's any merit to it. It is hard for me to imagine that stacking 4 subs in a corner is better than putting each sub in its own corner, or each sub midway on the wall, for a dedicated HT. But as always I'd like to see testing and data.
@Audioholics
@Audioholics Год назад
Nobody ever suggests stacking 4 subs in one corner. You want a sub in each corner and there is tons of research lead by Harman and our own that shows why.
@MovieViking
@MovieViking Год назад
@@Audioholics I know most of that research (Geddes, Toole etc.) but - as @tylerwatson5193 wrote - Arendal's handbook states the following: "The optimal position for a second subwoofer, is co-located on top of the first one. This is true, even if you can’t put the first one in a corner. The second best position is co-located next to the first one." The handbook is available as a PDF on the Arendal homepage.

I have read that as well and would have asked about it in the chat, but unfortunately I watched the recording, not the live stream.

@@Audioholics Another place in the Arendal Handbook they write this: "We could in some cases recommend a single 1723 Subwoofer 2 over a couple of 1723 Subwoofer 1’s, if you’re gong to spread them apart. Or a couple of stacked Subwoofer 1’s over a Subwoofer 2 in terms of in room response. The ultimate bass experience is enough stacked Subwoofer 2S or 2V to reach your ceiling! There are many combinations to bass nirvana. " "The ultimate bass experience is enough stacked Subwoofer 2S or 2V to reach your ceiling!"

@@Audioholics Have you checked out the handbook reference and recommendations? I would love to see some measurements of a stack versus the usual recommendations and will make them with REW when possible.

Have you guys experienced ported version vent noise? I have 2v and in my opinion it is super annoying sound coming from the vent when it is hitting under 20hz frequencies. Arendal isn’t much helping with my issue. 😢

It was hard not to laugh out loud starting at 13:35 as Gene, whom I usually agree with, and possibly a lot of us wondering about the sanity og plugging the ports of a vented sub gets quietly schooled by Thomas. Now I know I need two 2V's and that I will need to be able to call up two different calibrations: One plugged for music, one vented for movies 🙂
@Audioholics
@Audioholics Год назад
Schooled? I still wouldn't purchase a large vented sub only to seal it. James Larson also agrees with this sentiment.
@MovieViking
@MovieViking Год назад
@@Audioholics Yeah, but Thomas Gunvaldsen from Arendal did underline that the total Q is lower in the 2V when plugged than in the 2S and that it delivers a couple of dB more output 😉 So maybe “schooled” is a overstatement but he did deliver a quite solid argument for buying the 2V and using the plugs 😊
@MovieViking
@MovieViking Год назад
@@Audioholics I am actually buying two 2Vs as soon as I can afford them 🤞
@Audioholics
@Audioholics Год назад
@MovieViking a couple of dB is insignificant compared to the sheer size difference, IMO. it takes at least 4dB of increased output to be perceived twice as loud at bass frequencies.
@MovieViking
@MovieViking Год назад
@@Audioholics Yes, agreed, it is a trade-off - and getting the 2S is a no-brainer if space is an issue and the tightness when playing music has priority. The price difference is no joke either, so I will have to sell my current subs before ordering the Arendals.

I have two JBL-manufactured-for-Revel 15” subwoofer drivers mounted in two 4.25 cuft enclosures driven by a Crown XLi800 amp delivering 325 WPC into 4 Ohms. They’ll bury any commercially available subwoofer pair with possible exception of a pair of SVS 16” subwoofers.
@cbrunhaver

Yeah, that driver was really good. Many of them had issues with the lead wires slapping and breaking. Glad yours are ok

I wouldn’t choose a subwoofer based on dimensions or esthetics .. I’m planning on listening to it, not looking at it. Small subwoofer cabinets equates to serious compromises in performance .. always! There is no magical free lunch. Adults know this.

No it's not! Stop make generalisation. Not everyone wants a monstrosity in their hours. For my space, I have 2 8" subs that I bought in 1999 and they give me all the bass I needs I don't miss anything. Properly built stuff really do the do. Horses for course mate...horses for course.
