I have this on VHS and I've always loved how her piano player Richard was just sitting there watching and admiring her. I noticed this kind of thing a lot throughout the many concerts of hers I went to over the years. If you watch her back up singers and musicians they would really get into her while Aretha was doing her thing. Usually when a singer no matter from what generation is on stage the band and back ground singers pretty much all have a blank look on their faces while on stage doing their part, but you know you've got real talent when you can touch and move your staff like that. Sometimes even more than the audience.
Aretha doesn't have to be in a large concert hall or arena to put on a good show. Also it may just be me but for some reason it really doesn't feel like Aretha is gone. I guess maybe because I've sat up under listening to her music and watching video footage of her for almost 40 years. But when I do watch her for me it's like she's still here. And I don't mean that in a denial way, but it's almost like Aretha is still very much alive.
Lord have mercy!!!! I heard a recording of her singing it live back in ‘75 I think and it was amazing as well, so was the recorded song in ‘74 I believe. She killed this song!!!👑♥️ I almost passed out after that run at the end.
Either the audience was in shock or what? I know folk who would have rode her back off that piano singing all flatfooted with runs like that (old church talk). I always said Aretha sang in cursive while others sing in block. But, I was only half right. That last run was all calligraphy ❤
