I remember requesting this! Thanks for the reaction!! Aretha was truly the Queen that night. Such a powerful performance. This was Clinton's inaugural gala. Whoopi Goldberg told a funny story that every performer received a memo asking them not to wear fur and Aretha rolled up on stage like what memo. 😂😂😂
oh, wow! you have a *great* memory! not me, apparently. 🙁 but leave it to Whoopi, to make folks laugh, *nearly,* no matter what. i *miss* the days of her super-unique stand-up..Whoopi, her stage work was *so* deep and brilliant! not that i don't appreciate the niche she's carved out for herself in *'Hollywood,'* as it is for her today - i mean they've practically had to *beg* her to stay on at, *"The View"* and commanding that much clout in L.A., not a bad professional and financial place to be in (although she has made it fairly clear she's *been* ready to do other things since at least a few contracts ago)..but *'First World'* problems aren't exactly *problems,* i guess..esp., when i watch too much world news..sourced from outlets based in other countries. 😯 anyway, at one point in time, i had saved this Aretha video and played it on my phone, almost daily! 😁
I loved to hear Aretha sing. I didn’t know she sang this song. It was beautiful - I loved her interpretation of it. She was amazing!! Thanks for reacting to this.
as i commented above, i adore it, too! isn't it so nice?? her adaptation of it is just so sublime, so powerful, too!..just puts me in a very heavenly, paradisical state of being..i do love it! 🙋🏾🎉💟🎊❣️
This is so exquisite it is so beautiful so healing. Aretha is the Queen. How she reframed the end by slightly changing the words to "They will not kill the dreams we dream". This song is so devastating to listen to because it's so sad but Aretha made it so triumphantly beautiful. The message is good will prevail, Justice will prevail.
Thank you. I love your reaction and accurate assessment! This song, "Honey" and "Someday We'll All Be Free," are three recordings where her voice was raspy. OOOOH, but despite the raspiness, she always knocked me out with her VOCAL INFLECTIONS...phrasing, melisma, hums, shouts, moans, vocal dynamics and how she always applied these techniques at the perfect time, that gave all her songs, that unique SOULFULNESS, that no one will ever be able to duplicate!!! She is the G.O.A.T!!!
Also, regarding this video, I almost got “happy” and caught the Holy Ghost! It’s been a few weeks since I’ve listened to Aretha. That woman’s voice was intensely captivating... especially in her prime from 60’s through early 2000s. Anointed and touched by God. Her skill was like no other.
This is during the time when she decided to quit smoking right after this, from 89 to 93 wasn't her best voice, around 95, she starts getting the voice clear and look at the david letterman show when she sings deeper love, you can hear that she has gained pretty much her high notes clearer and all the rasp is gone. even this Aretha is better than any other singer on earth
Aretha voice was very raspy because she used to be a heavy smoker from the age of 14 all the way up until 1993 when she stopped. Her voice started to clear up at the end of 1993 going into 1994.
The smoking took some of the earth shattering power out of her range though. There were certain classic 60's-70's songs she couldn't even perform anymore into the 90's & beyond.
my all time *favorite* cover of this song (that is *not* in the *Les Mis* musical). and, yaaassss! *old-school* Aretha! dramatic entrance, fur coat (back in the day, that's how it was -and just *try* to take it away from her - should be entertaining)..oh, no she *di'nt* just *drop* it!, hahahaha!! 🤣😄😆🙃😃 and beautiful, that amazing choir and *ginormous,'* yes, again, dressed *up* exceptionally well audience of *appreciative and respectful* fans..those *were* the times. 🎊👍🎉❣️ plus, indeed, this arrangement also finds some of the words changed..but this adaptation actually speaks higher volumes (than the original from the musical , which i *also* love when in context)..but it speaks higher volumes to my personal sensibilities and experiences in *this-world-that-we-think-we-are.* on a scale from 1 to 10, what number does it hold for *you* re: how much *you* like it? 🙋🏾for me it's about an *11!!* 😁 anyway, thanks for *reminding* me about this video! used to have it on my phone..or maybe one phone ago?..in any case, yes, thanks for the reminder to add it back to my *TubeMate.* appreciate it! 👍
Hey man, I know this is not Aretha related but can you react to Whitney Huston and Mariah Carey live performance of "When You Believe" at the 76th Acadey Awards? That would be the ULTIMATE video reaction and would fulfill my viewing from your channel. Much Thanks!
I'm so glad you did this. Aretha had a bout of throat cancer and wasn't supposed to sing anymore Her voice was deeper and raspier after that. PLEASE react to any song on her Amazing Grace album (her heyday). If you do bring tissues.
She first sang this song on the Night Of 100 Stars if you can find still on RU-vid she was on fire!!!!! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-N4wYtW6CNdc.html also to note that Aretha was a heavy chain smoker that’s were the raspy tone comes from.
(React) Whitney Houston, BeBe & CeCe Winans _"Hold Up The Light"_ live ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7nZ00REojXY.html The gem in this one is at 4:51 when Whitney & Natalie Cole goes back n forth with each other as Whitney makes her way to Natalie & embrace each other with a hug, love that part!
Aretha is my favorite singer. But this is not a favorite performance of mine. I wish you would react to her version of Ain't Nothing Like the Real Thing. At the Grammys
(React) Dionne Warwick _"I'll Never Love This Way Again"_ live ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-FAu73aOa2HQ.html Dionne was BLOWING....Probably the best live version from her ever.
whitney houston and cece winans bridge over troubled waters...please let me know this song is giving someone else the feels like it gives me. they sound sooo much alike it's crazy - not a popular request but hey, you're thejustthevoice :)
React to Tonéx’s God Has Not Forgot song off of his Out The Box album. There is a video of the live version on RU-vid but the video is not in sync with the audio so I suggest you check just the song not the video on RU-vid
💜 Hello! I love to hear singers sing with a symphony, live band etc... Please react to Jill Scott He Loves Me (Live & Rare)! performance on janetman1 channel
Did she sing this around the time she sang the Season 2 intro of the TV show "A Different World?" Because that was the raspiest I had ever heard her sound.
I hadn't heard this version of "I dreamed a dream" before. I enjoyed your reaction as always. What do you think of Lea Salonga's 25th anniversary performance? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wHdtwKCGzZU.html
