i think that GOD brought ARETHA FRANKLIN to this world to show us all what being anointed means... glory to GOD in the highest.!!! (believe me im in tears)
This is the difference between a funeral and a home going celebration! Knowing that our loved ones are with Jesus! I can't believe I missed this clip the first time. Loved how they praised and danced. I bet if Luther had the opprotunity he'd been dancing too!
It amazes me - no matter what the video posted, how beautiful or breath-taking as this one by the Great Ms. Franklin, someone seems to find a way to turn something negative into the comments. It's shameful. My God, Y'all this is ARETHA. Her voice will bring you to your knees if you shut up & LISTEN. Turn loose of your hate & spite long enough to EXPERIENCE IT. And for crying out loud, enjoy the human condition, that simple part of you that just weeps and smiles at the voice of an angel.
southern baptists.......man. even as an on again/off again atheist, i can't help but be touched by this. i love this!!!! then ms. franklin? really?! wow.......chills. just chills, everywhere. what a beautiful woman.......such a beautiful voice. she's the queen, man. there is not other.
In the words of Mattie Moss- Clark .... "I felt something!!!" Aretha got me when she satrted calling Jesus. If you got something in you, you can't just hear the name of Jesus called and not feel something. Aretha knew what she was doing. She told ya'll in the beginning about her throat and she knew what to do to bring it home.
I also have this on VHS. This was the funeral for the late great Luther Vandross at the Riverside Church in Harlem. It had poured rain that day and that huge church was packed to capacity. Just before the services started, the motorcade passed by the APOLLO so people (who stood HOURS in the rain) could throw flowers at the hearse. All of Luther's fave ladies were there that day:Aretha,Patti,Dionne &Gladys. I went to the wake & Luther's family were so strong. Aretha's was WONDERFUL!!!
I bet this is the first time the Holy Ghost even fell on the Episcopal Church. Some of the priests looked like they felt the spirit. It even looked like those dead stone statues wanted to cry out to God. This is what happens when the fire of the Holy Ghost falls on a church service.
i hope she is doing well..aretha meant so much to me when i was a teenager..soul music was my music...god bless this lady and all the those who r in need of comfort..from above down inside out.
the purpose of this video is to not only celebrate Luther but to praise Aretha's talent....................The great Whitney's funeral aint got nothing to do with my video................thanks!!!!
This performance is not for us to judge as good or bad, as far as a rendition of a legendary hymn by performed by a legend, on loan to us by the Lord. It is a Funeral for another talented man. And should be respected and viewed in that spirit
Aretha better sing! I absolutely love the end when she does a little preaching. She sounds just like her father Rev. C.L. Franklin in the song and more at the end when she gets the church shouting!
I love love love Luther's music. His funeral was beautiful. Patti LaBelle and others sung, too. BTW, Aretha has sung at so many of the gospel greats funerals; you guys know the powerhouse singers will come together, and sing beautiful, soul-stirring music when its Mrs. Franklin's time to be with the Lord. I can see Yolanda Adams, Fantasia, Mary J. Blige and many more putting their hearts and souls into one last song for Aretha. However, I pray that God keeps her with us a while longer.
AMEN Shes The Queen and anointed!!She doesn`t need to be anybody else plus shes singing at the Funeral of a dear Friend!! Its breathtaking and a inspiration to all singers!!
First of all, praised due to the most high for bringing forth a talent such as Ms Aretha Franklin to truly truly bless us with her amazing god given talent for all her years. It's truly a blessing to be able to listen to such a wonderful voice. WIth that being said we should be humbled to be a witness to the grace of our creator as brought forth through her vocal stylings. I do believe that when she opens her mouth we are hearing the voice of an angel. Blesseth.
What a soul diva. A mellow voice par excellence. No one can take the place of you. You got a special place in my heart. Get well Aretha. May the Lord Almighty lift you up to health....
YES I LOVE IT!!! SHE Started Preaching at the 5 in marck.. She got that anointing on her just as her father had it before her!!! Preach on Missionary Franklin!!
@Militon754: What you hear in this video is a older version of her voice....when Aretha was young there was nothing touching her vocally. Aretha had voice, anointing, style, soul. She was what we called a full package....because true singing is not about vocal gymnastics and riffs all over the place. Aretha was a standard bearer...she had THE MOST SOULFUL voice of all her peers. So when you say you don't see her the way others do...it simply is a matter of taste. Keep in mind she smoked for years.
It may sound like Billy :Preston but in the Amazing Grace concert it was James Cleveland, Aretha's and Ray Charles' mentor, who brought gospel to the real world with voice and organ.
I love this women singing, as a young women on the choir the choir director would have me to sing her songs. I love you Aretha. Please make some more gospel music. Thanks.
People always have something to say about Aretha, IT'S MY TURN. This lady has busted out her throat for us for 50 yrs. She has toured and recorded for many of those 50 years. Now that she is slowing down and her voice isn't as strong as it was people want to critisize and tear her down. Aretha doesn't have to sing another note in her life, because she has already done it. I love Aretha for who she is, and she is the Queen of Soul and the Queen of Gospel...stop hate'n
@DaStr8Truth DAT IS the truth. SHO NUFF!!!! This is some hard churchin. When that left hand goes behind her back and the eyes close then we always know we're in for some deep praise. Just like at Dr. King's, Mahalia's, Clara's, Miss Rosa, Albertina's homegoing. Oh Lord, too many. Too many Lawd. Who gonna do it for Sis Franklin? Bless ya xx
