Awesome Video. I very much enjoyed the scenery. Peaceful time by yourself. I was born and raised in ohio, I remember a lot of the winters we had there, this reminded me a lot of them from my childhood and how peaceful they were. Thank you.
Thanks Tanker Yanker - I love the winters and the quiet. I'd also love to visit Ohio one day - its look very beautiful. Looks like you might be in for some snow pretty soon - a big storm is heading to the US.
After a tough couple of days with our animals it was good to kick back and relax watching this, enjoyable video again and many thanks for allowing us along, you and Esme stay safe and take care out there.
@@TheEmporiumOutdoorsJust the usual small livestock that aid our self sufficiency aims: rabbits, geese, ducks and chickens. The aim was to add goats and quail but the Brexit situation here means everything has had to be put on hold these last two years.
Its a really nice spot. When I get my tracks for the Argo I'll be able to head deeper into that area. In summer its too swampy to pass easily so winter is the best time to explore that area.
Hi Kit - Esme hates the boots unfortunately. We use something called Mushers Wax which protects her feet from the snow! She doesn't mind that at all! 🐶
wow, beautiful footage at 32:08 and 46:30 - such a gorgeous landscape, and so serene...! Kudos to you for being able to experience that, Michael. It's always great to watch your impressive videos - cheers from Germany
Thanks Dominik - You have some wonderful spots in Germany too. I used to spend my summers as a clild there exploring. Best wishes from Canada! Michael & Esme
Good to see you Michael, you have been absent for too long and I missed you guys. I am glad Esme's foot was ok and that you had a great night out. Hope to see you soon. Your friend Rach
Hi Michael and Esme, I'm a bit late but, that's ok. I really enjoyed this video, great drone action and the music is perfect. Now, on to my next video of yours.
Great video, great tips on a lot of the gear that you have!!!! And I love your dog Esme, she is beautiful and she looks like she's really really sweet!! I love that she sleeps in your sleeping bag nice and toasty warm 😃❤️☮️ and I agree the Drone footage was great!!
Very nice. Sure wish i could split wood that fast! Best coffee for the money, right there. Loved the quick dog smile. Ha! Thanks for making these, very enjoyable to watch. PS, please adopt me;)
Hahaha - I too wish I could split wood at X8 speed! The coffee is pretty good for the money - its much better than instant :/ Glad you liked the smile :D
Great video reminds me of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. You're a blessed man and what a great travel companion. Looking at a Argo for retirement love to hear updates on your tracks and overall satisfaction. God bless
Hi Roark Freeman - I google the Upper Peninsula of Michigan - that looks amazing and with the water so close I bet its great for fishing too! Yup - I'm a lucky fellow to have the opportunities I have and the company of my fury friend :) 🐾. Tracks are ordered and just waiting for them to show up! Snows deep enough now to make the trails impassable with tires alone. Best wishes Michael & Esme!
Great video. Always enjoy your winter camp. Glad you spared us the packing up, it's always a little depressing to see it all come to an end. Esme was beautiful as usual.
Thanks David - I agree. I need to switch up the format a little - its getting a little stale I feel. I enjoy watching other people setup camp as I find it interesting but I need to focus more on activities once I get to where I'm going.
What an awesome winter landscape. The sped up bits added a little extra fun to watch. Your canine companion was a good foreman around the 5 minute mark. ;) Drone footage was mesmerising towards the end, well done! Video and audio are excellent quality. Thumbs up!
I come across to check your channel out because Lars from Survival Russia gave you a shout out. I am glad I did, because i really enjoyed this video, thank you. Esme is such a beautiful dog, I hope her foot is ok. Cheers.
Dog gives love and senses so much more with licks. Wolves do the same. Be glad she's not sticking her tongue in your mouth haha.... that's what Wolves do. I wouldn't argue.....
First time viewer of your vids today. Really enjoyed seeing the stove warm you and your pup! Gorgeous shot from the drone of the wood smoke over your camp. I look forward to more posts this coming winter. Cheers, from Pennsylvania, U.S.A.
Great video once again! 😀. Looked like Esme got ice in her paw. My dog gets that now and then. Does the same paw lift hop. I just remove it and she's fine. You could try booties for her, my attempt with my dog when she was young, was not so successful. Lol. Lots of awkward paw lifts, then a pout fit. Depends on the dog, but booties can help with ice in between her toes and paw.
Hi Brian - yup you're are right. I saw the slip in the hole and put 2+2 together and got 5. It was just ice. Normally she is fine and she will chew at the ice from time to time. I've tried all the booties including the balloon type ones but she hates them. Her legs are so short and her feet so big the booties end up like knee high on her! lol. Maybe I should try again with some more pairs.
Great video as always!! I should probably start doing some more winter camping but I traded the Argo for a quad recently so now I need a little sled behind if I want to do camping. In any case enjoy your camping :) glad to see other share this fun and strange idea of going camping when it's cold outside! Oh Happy new year a bit late though.
Its surprising how far you can get into the winter trails with a quad before they get impassable. I think winter camping is one of the best kept secrets of outdoors people ;) and happy New Years to you too!
My daughter and I were both grinning ear to ear while Esme was licking your face. 23:21 There's a thumbnail! 26:18 😄 When Esme was hopping in the snow, my dogs would do that when they would get a bit of ice/hard snow in between the pad of their foot.
Found out about your channel from Survival Russia today. Am I ever glad I checked it out. Loved this video and meeting Esme. She is a sweetheart. I was also very impressed with the ease of putting up the snow trekker tent. Other hot tents I've seen, seem so heavy and difficult for one person to set up. Great video and I look forward to many more from you.
Hi Myn6211 - Thanks for checking out the channel! The Snowtrekker is so easy to setup - its one of the reason I purchased it. They have some smaller models that are even easier but the EXP shortfall is a nice balance of room and weight. Best wishes Michael & Esme!
Great idea using the booties, giving your feet a break from heavy boots. Do the felts come out of the boots to dry them if needed ? On the sleeping bag zip... Some cold weather military bags still available which are great come with snaps..enjoying the videos.
Hi Rick - Yea those booties are nice! The liners do come out of the boots and I'm due for a new pair to be honest. I do need to buy a new zip and put it in. The TETON zip is just awful - way too lightweight! 🍻
Love the video, your tent is great nice and roomy and I love that you can stand up. My favorited camping coffee maker the Makita and McCafe. Loved the drone footage its so beautiful with all the fozen trees and snow. Love the shot of Esme with her teeth lol hope her leg was OK.
Hi Jo - Yup, glad I chose that tent - it has worked out very well. Wow - just googled the Makita coffee maker - that is amazing! lol - very cool! We enjoyed the trip and Esme is totally fine - just some ice build up in the end!
Great videography, excellent drone shots, the slow motion fire in the fire box was very good. Esme was very good company. The Argo is the way to go for sure. I have never done any winter camping but would love to try sometime. New subscriber. I will look for other videos.
Im just letting you know that I'm still waiting for my canoe. The company selling itI is behind with deliveries and I still have to wait another week or so. Great video and thanks. Take care
Perfect hot tent conditions. I think we have had our bit of cold for the winter here...measly -13c low on this side of the hills...which I did get out in for a Hammock Hot Tent in....want to get out again but temps just hover at the freeze point.
Yes - this winter is strange. It's been very mild - its even above freezing right now with snow melting. Hammock hot tent..hmmm that's interesting. I'd love to see that setup!
@@TheEmporiumOutdoors wintertrekking.com/community/index.php?topic=4961.0 Now that would be a sewing project for you as you can not buy Hammock Hot Tents
Drone footage was great, but too much luxury in a camp like chainsaw, beer holder etc. When there is lack of means it will be more enjoyable camp.. But it was great..Thnx for video
The landscape shot of you driving away at about 2:20 was really nice. I wonder if there's a still in there that you can use at some point. I don't know what I'm talkin about really, but just watching the video again I thought it was an impressive look you trundling away in your new Argo. I still feel bad about the Giv'r gloves recommendation. 😒 . I finally got my Varusteleka ? German Army gloves a few weeks back. Just in time for spring!
Glad you like that shot my friend! Don't feel bad about the gloves - Looking at other reviews there is little mention of the quality issues (strangely). Those German Winter gloves are amazing quality for the money - You will appreciate them later in the season! 😉
Hey ! Says the Canadian The aerial shot was soooooo nice ! the view on the tent smoking away , the haze in the back ground , you must be paid like a hundred dollars a minute to cut wood that fast , i like the video . I look in your store and didn't see the folding cup or mug ??? so tell about it . tanks , best regards .
Hi Patrice - thanks and I'm glad you liked the video :) I WISH I could cut wood that fast - lol. Yup - forgot the mug! Its there now - Sea to Summit X Mug! Best wishes - Michael & Esme!
Watching it again! Those Alberta winds, couldn’t the wind easily pull up those wood pieces out of the snow that are holding down the sides of the tent if it were to kick up in the night? I’d be scared to not have it anchored down Realy good, especially with a fire inside. What have you experienced so far with the wind. You say it’s quite sheltered. Thank you for the nice footage. I have Realy enjoyed your adventures.
Hi mature Adventurer - those logs one frozen in will never move, they are locked in very tight. As I'm mostly in large forest areas the winds don't really hit very hard. The pines and spruce do a great job of defusing the wind through their bows. I would also face the tent into the wind - not side on, to make it cope better. 👍
So the reason you don't use downed trees are they are typically wet and unsuitable for burning. I only cut dead standing trees - never live trees. I'm actually helping the forest by removing dead trees and providing space and light for new saplings 👍
Another great trip, eh? Really enjoyed the footage - thanks for taking the effort and time to get it. Esme seemed ok in the end? I hope it turned out to be just a cold paw... Thanks for the video.
Cool Argo, why no pull that sled? I got one for my quad, but I have yet to set it up due to family commitments this winter, soon I hope. There are lots of solid tow hitches for that sled. Great video I look forward to your tracks! Wow. I’m woundering when the dog will get some booties. I’m thinking dogs feet get more tender as they age? I have been enjoying your videos all morning thus far. I watched you some time ago just after we got our quads for courage to venture out into the wilderness and to see how you would pack your atv for camping. Great to see your still at it, I’ll have to keep watching to see if your still using that side by side.
Hi Mature Adventurer - I do pull the sled if I need to but I prefer to keep everything inside the Argo if possible - makes things simpler for maneuvering. Esme is still young, 4 1/2 now and normally doesn't mind the snow - but I have bought some wax for her feet that will be used on our next trip! Thats so kind that you have been watching the videos for sometime - that's great encouragement for me! I hope you manage to get out camping soon! I'll be out with some side by side camping when the snow clears for sure!
Thank you for the reply. I look forward to a bit of video about the dog paw wax, I have never hear of it before, cool. I just love you calm cool and detailed, your creativity is wonderful, thank you . @@TheEmporiumOutdoors
good video, enjoy all of your videos. I'm curious about the boots you were wearing. I see triple stitching, look like a decent boot, but are they warm?
Hi Johnny - They are LL Bean Maine Pack boots. This is an old video ( ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-QV1dW2Vd-Nc.html ) 4 years ago now - and the boots are still like new. The liners show some wear but I can replace them next season. They are good to -50c they claim. I've had no issues with them and with the right socks they are very warm and very comfortable.
Interesting - I'd like to get away from the gas models and have thought about the battery types but wasn't sure about the lower temperature performance. I could recharge it with the Argo too during driving!
You need a Sherp for deep snow. The Argo will not cut it. The Tracks are even worse because you will not have traction. The Belly of the Argo limits it.
Looks like a Melitta coffee filter holder, that would take a number 4 Melitta coffee filter. I have a bigger version for a number six Melitta filter, and it makes great coffee. It's better if you use a genuine Melitta filter, however.
Hi Torrey - I try and collect spruce twigs with old man beard as this is a good natural tinder but It was a little scarce in this area. I did end up making feather sticks with the tree in the end so you are quiet right!
Good stuff there Michael. So? How did the Teton Zipper failure get resolved? You repair it, or, did they repair/replace it? How do you get them to respond to correspondence? LOL Nice filmography work with the drone on this one too. And, we need an Esme SITREP on her leg. Hope it's nothing of concern.
Hi RatdogDRB - Hmmm I think the TETON update got left on the cutting room floor to reduce the video time :/ They wanted $80CAD to send it back for repair. The bag was only $110CAD new - so I told them errrr no. I ended up doing an amazon return and they sent a new one out the same day. I think it must have been a faulty zip as the new one has worked with no issue. Esme is all good - I think it was just an ice build up on her foot. Watching the footage back I could see she was walking fine after the little hole incident. The next day she was running and walking fine :)
