When comparing Celine and Mariah (and Whitney), it’s honestly a matter of preference. Whitney has most power, Celine the most resonance and highest belts (overall she is probably the best vocalist), and Mariah has the amazing transitions/agility and broadest range. I personally prefer Mariah’s unique tone, music, and musicianship, but I love them all. Also love Christina and Ariana, but they ain’t in the same league.
Ceecee Jacobsen I like to think of Celine as a hybrid between the other two... resonance from Whitney and agility from Mariah... Mariah owns the agility and Whitney owns the power and resonance! But Celine has got a great amount of both. Celine is my favorite but I’m not lying when I say Mariah and Whitney are just as incredible when it comes to singing and their legacy! I just like Celine’s voice the most. And other people will have different opinions on which voice they think sounds better
ChrisTheAppleOne This is exactly it. Our own vocal preference doesn’t mean that this person is THE BEST. It’s a rather self centered worldview. Just because I prefer Mariah’s voice it doesn’t mean she is the best. I am not the ruler of the universe. A lot of people seem to think it works that way. The only thing I feel I can objectively state makes Mariah the superior musician is the fact that she is the most involved musician in terms of songwriting/producing/etc. At the same time, Celine is by far (and I mean BY FAAAAR compared to the other two divas) the most humble of them, always giving credit where credit is due, and always being so gracious to other artists, which speaks to her character. It all depends what we choose to focus on. I just feel people are ruining their own potential for enjoyment by not listening to all of them. Why wouldn’t someone want to listen to Whitney, Celine, AND Mariah? They are all so amazing.

Mariah > Celine > Whitney Agility: Mariah > Celine > Whitney 4th Octave belts: Whitney > Mairha > Celine 5th octave - D5: Celine wins up to D5, to F5 goes to Whitney, F#5 and G5 go to Mariah. Head Voice: Whitney has the most developed head voice and most operatic and control. Falsetto: None really use it. Whistle: Guess.... Take of this what you will.
JustSomeoneDifferent I agree with you except in falsetto section, ‘cause Mariah uses 95% falsetto instrad of head voice. Even her head voice being very good (not as Celine and mainly Whitney’s), she mastered falsetto to an unique level that makes she prefer to use it as a trade mark.

@@joalltheway9046I agree but Mariah did the most runs, Christina’s are just more annoying and less good and skillful, but she is arguably better than Ariana and not that bad of a singer. She isn’t on par with Mariah or Celine at all, but she has better clips than the ones in this video. Ariana imo is totally overrated and way too dependent on high throaty belts and autotune, she can’t riff very well and doesn’t enunciate at all.

I think very few people realized this, but on Mariah's cover of Bringin' On The Heartbreak, she actually mimicked the electric guitar using her whistle. She hit every single note of that guitar riff from the original version in whistle register and it was really amazing. I wish it was featured on this versus video.
Celine is absolutely good but I just prefer Mariah’s tone. I’ll always love how Mariah’s voice is so light but it gathers so much power. Celine is much more loud wih her high notes but Mariah has a way to never let her voice go unheard.

Celine and Mariah are more disciplined and polished than Christina. That said... Christina is the one who's really able to give me goosebumps. She doesn't just sing, she gives emotions, she sacrifices perfection to give emotions and intensity. Old school singers like Nina Simone, Etta James and Patti Labelle (the latter being INSANELY POWERFUL) were/are far from perfect singers, but they gave us the soul. Of the 4, Christina is the one with more soul.
In regards to Christina sounding a little more strained than the others, I noticed that almost all of her performances except one or two were uptempo songs. She was running all over the stage, doing choreo and still attempting to hit high notes live. Whereas the other ladies don’t do choreographed performances really and are usually lower in energy and movement compared to Christina.

@@zetzu6460 Nope, it isn't. Christina has far better agility and falsetto. Low notes is better too. Ariana takes the higher belts. Christina had been consistent supporting G#4s in her prime, Ariana used to support C#5s but regressed continuously. They both strain, it's just Ariana's less evident because of her mix.
This is just my opinion. Honestly, Ariana don't stand a chance against these 3 ladies. We hate to compare but she faded against them. She has the right tools but not the skills, even Christina with inconsistent technique still has better agility, falsetto, transition, proper breathing, melisma and riffs. Things she's suppose to possess as a soprano with high tessitura, but doesn't mean she can't improve. Mariah and Celine are part of the vocal trinity. It's useless to compare them to each other what Mariah lacks Celine has what Celine lacks Mariah has they compliment each other. They both are equally great!

As a lamb I would put: 1.celine is the most projected and powerful and has one of the most range in belting/mixing 2. Mariah would have to be second as her voice is much more versatile than the other three and that she can manipulate tone while still maintaining resonance and power. 3. Christina. Even though she has a reputation of having VERY inconsistent belts, her agility in the belting register is extremely amazing and one might even say incomparable. 4. Ariana. (It was kinda hard to choose between these two btw) Ariana’s belts aren’t resonant and she is a bit nasal. Though I enjoy her “girly tone” and her belting range, she’s just lacking proper technique. NO HATE.
I just wanted to say that Mariah’s belt aren’t as powerful as Celine’s is because they don’t have the same voice type. Mariah’s voice is built lighter then Celine, that’s why Mariah’s belt aren’t a powerful
Elvis Rosales Recently she's been showing some great technique, like in her Carpool Karaoke, not much strain, resonant C#5's and Eb5's!!! I was like wtf?! Yaaasss. I've always loved Christina's voice, and it was so sad that she was ruining it with that awful technique.
These clips don't show Christina's agility and versatility, that you get from her full performance. Add this to her power, passion and emotional connection to the music, then you get an experience.

Ryan Wolf she has ease on belts because of her natural range, not because her technique is better. Christina has better lows, Ariana has awful lows and serious breath issues. They both are pretty equal in terms on technique , except they have issues on different parts of it.
Art Aspire Christina's consistent supported range is G#3/A3-D4/Eb4, because that she has already issues with her tongue on E4. Ariana has G3-B4/C5. Ariana has supported F#3s before. Her lows aren't bad, she just needs to work on projecting them, what makes you think that they are bad ? For a super light lyric soprano, it's really admirable

the way xtina belts is way more challenging than the way others belt.... sorry but there is not such things as a legend today... christina does not waste minutes of her perfomance to hold notes for 10 seconds, she needs to sing the words------- artist of unmatched excellence
All cuts of Mariah are from her prime while some of Celine’s are only from a couple of years ago. She has been performing live nonstop for 15 years but her longevity is unmatched. Sorry but no other come even close to Celine.
Ariana is just joining the Legendary Singers. There's no way to compare Ariana Grande to Queen Mariah Carey or Celine Dion or Even Xtinas vocals. Definitely Céline and Mariah for me! Ariana has so much tension that my throat starts hurting when I look at her sing and I'm not a huge fan of Xtina's tone and constant growling and oversinging. All of them are good though
Christina Aguilera's voice was the best singing instrument that came along after the vocal trinity of whitney mariah and Celine. Christina with proper vocal training would've been not only thw voice but the only singer to rival the vocal trinity. The girl is just blessed with a sickening instrument with amazing natural singing abilities.
Love all of them, each one has their own skills. Mariah’s range is out of this world and not to mention how a great songwriter she is. Celine’s pipes and resonance are iconic, Christina is a vocal beast, her tone, agility, growls, run & riffs are just legendary. Ariana is good but has a lot to prove still for me but in a few years who knows, she might be there with them.
Well, it's not for everybody turning 50 still with an extraordinary voice, mature and suitable to your age, and she's proved this through her new cd "Courage": the vocals are just amazing, even live! Of course, when she sings in French she doesn't run behind hitting high notes, but the fact that her Courage world tour did sold out in many places, before Covid-19, is a proof about the fact that she's a legend!
She's out sang always and will never be the diva she tries to evoke. I'm sick of it, just because girl can hit a semi-high note. Like, but what about depth? The comparisons to the others are not suitable. Everyone wants to say she's the "baby" or "new" Mariah, but Mariah at the very start of her career will always be leagues away from Ariana whatever point she's at and is honestly disrespectful.
Nah, Celine is more relaxed than Mariah when belting. Mariah's whistle note is insane but I am not head over heels about it. What I love the most about Mariah is her fucking insane whisphery like voice. I sounds relaxing. Celine's resonance when belting is piercing. There's something inside my head that these notes are hitting. I enjoyed it more than I enjoyed Mariah's whistle. Song wise, Mariah wins. Because of her tone, she can really dominate whatever era she's in. Vocal technique wise, Celine wins. I always say that vocal technique includes how wise the singer is in using her voice. A good vocal technique means you know how tp control your voice and do insane notes not hurting your vocals in the long run. That is why, Celine's voice, until now, is perfectly and aging so well. She may not have the agility and the immense power she have during her prime, but her voice is still beautiful.

the others have been around for a considerably longer amount of time so part of it is that a lot of ariana's performances used in this video had to be taken from concerts off of fans' phones. although she does have a lighter voice, the bad audio quality makes it sound a lot worse/muted
Mariah, Celine and Xtina all through the career too want to prove how much of an amazing vocalist they are. Ariana doesn’t want to prove her ability she just wants to make cute songs and sing.... which is why most of the comparison videos you will find people with long sustained notes, growls, agile runs etc and 1-minute clips of Ariana phrasing the note. You really have to base these videos of a wide range of knowledge you already know from each individual because you know they can prove so much more than the video perceives.

This was NOT a hard one for me...and I will say that you touched on a lot of key points. I was thinking that you were not going to mention certain flaws because you tend to be very nice and politically correct in your videos....BUT you called out everything I was thinking. For me, LAST place easily goes to Christina Aguilera. Although she sounds very powerful, her excessive use of vocal runs are very annoying and unlike the other 3, when Christina's voice sounds powerful, it tends to lack beauty and does NOT deliver a melodic sound....her voice tends to sound very hard and edgy. Third place goes to Ariana. Ariana obviously has the softest voice and does not deliver the power of the other 3. However, Ariana's voice sounds beautiful and she was hitting higher notes without strain and even when she belts, she sill sounds melodic. Unlike Christina, Ariana does NOT over due it with the vocal runs. Number 2 goes to Mariah Carey based on this video. Mariah and Celine were basically perfect in these clips. Unlike the other 2, I don't have any criticism for either of them. Of course, we know Mariah cannot sing like this anymore, but again based on THESE CLIPS...Mariah was basically perfect. We all know that in her prime, Mariah was unbelievable. The # 1 slot goes to Celine Dion. Celine wins by an edge....but it was close between her and Miss Mariah. I calls it like I sees it and that's all folks ;)
Couldn’t agree more with you. Celine is my number one and the fact that she still sounds good today after so much singing over so many years is mind boggling. Every lady is talented in their own rights though.
