Yes, the ending is kind of brutal. But the whole film is so well executed. And the tension between the two female leads is built up so well. I really love this film. Thanks for watching. 💗

Yes there is so much sexual tension built masterfully throughout the film with hardly any actual physical contact between Ariane and Melanie. This film is beautifully understated. It's so well made and well acted. The chemistry between the two main actresses is insane.

Kudos to you for making it all the way to the end. 😉 If you want to know the whole story I will try and summarise: So it kind of starts with Mélanie as a young girl. She comes from a working class family and her parents have basically worked extremely hard and saved so that she can have piano lessons. Mélanie dreams of becoming a professional pianist. She goes to an audition at a prestigious conservatoire and plays in front of a famous pianist Ariane Fouchécourt. During the audition, Ariane signs an autograph for an admirer which distracts Mélanie from her performance and shatters her composure. Humiliated, Mélanie leaves in tears with her mother. She goes home and locks the piano, and never plays again. She plots an elaborate revenge against Ariane, the woman who crushed her dreams. Flash forward to the present, we see Mélanie is an intern at Ariane's husband's law firm. She manages to get a job as a live in holiday carer, helping look after his young son. We learn from Ariane's husband that Ariane was in a severe car accident two years ago which has left her with crippling anxiety and severe stage fright. He asks Mélanie to also help support his wife while she is staying with the family. Mélanie quickly becomes indispensable to the family and especially to Ariane. Mélanie's perfectly timed page turning, combined with her composure and apparent empathy, enable Ariane to recover a confidence in performance that she thought she had lost, helping Ariane recover from a panic attack before a performance. Later on in the film, Mélanie sabotages a very important performance in which Ariane's trio is supposed to play in front of a very important American investor. She leaves Ariane right before the performance, causing her to panic and lose focus during the recital. Later when confronted in the parking lot by Mélanie, she breaks down completely, clinging to her desperately. She has become completely infatuated with Mélanie. Ariane is terrified. She knows that if her husband were to ever find out about her intimate relationship with Mélanie she would lose everything. The house, her status, her son. All her wealth and elevated position come from her husband and his family. On Mélanie's last night at the house, during her farewell dinner, she asks Ariane for an autograph. Ariane agrees telling Mélanie she will find a photo to give her. She tells Mélanie she will make breakfast for them both in the morning and then drive her to the train station before her husband returns from his business trip. She writes the autograph for Mélanie, telling her that she loves her and wants to see her again, quietly sliding it under the door for her. Mélanie then sneaks into Ariane's husband's office where she leaves the autograph for him to find and then leaves before Ariane wakes up. When Ariane's husband returns and finds the autograph he is devastated by her betrayal and leaves her. Ariane is shown collapsing, overwhelmed by the emotional strain of the situation. Mélanie's revenge is complete. She has destroyed Ariane's career, her financial security, her familial relationship with her son, her marriage, her physical wellbeing, and her mental state. The end scene is a shot of Mélanie walking away, smiling. It's a chilling and brutal ending but also perfect. Sorry, this kinda turned into an essay. lol.

@@mindmypensieve I suddenly wonder if Melanie caused the car accident. She's a brilliant planner, and highly intelligent. Making Ariane dependent could all have been part of the plan. In the worst cause she would have been dead, or too handicapped to ever play the piano again.

@@helenarichard I have also considered this actually. In the movie they don't allude to Melanie being involved in the car crash but considering how obsessive she was about Ariane it is a possibility. However, if she was involved, I don't think she would have caused the crash with the intention of killing Ariane. She probably would have considered that too lenient of a punishment. Melanie was intent on completely destroying every aspect of Ariane's life. Everything she held dear and I think in the end she succeeds in this.

It's such a great film. Just great performances all around. I found it on torrent. Had to hunt around a bit. This was the best copy I could find. Unfortunately it's not HD quality and the subs are hardcoded so it made it a bit difficult to edit but I did my best.
