the live action explored more of their chemistry and relationship so i would say the live action is better than the cartoon and also can we mention halle?? she is by far, imo the best version of ariel no one can play her character like her

Agree!!! Love their relationships in the remake, but the cartoon is still much better for me even if i'm not a fan of The Little Mermaid.

I think the live action is so much better! I never really understood Ariel desire to be part of the human world in the animated version. Until Halle’s version, her version shows a lot of desperation/loneliness/ like she doesn’t fit in and also shows how distant her relationship with her father is..which adds on with how misunderstood she feels by her people. Also they give Eric so much more personality and him being drawn to the sea as parallel to Ariel to the surface was just the cherry on top! Those were some of my fav things that I felt the animated version lacked. Probably why I never really connected to the animated version..it lacked more depth to the characters but the live action fixed that for me so now I can finally say it’s one of my favorites!💖

@@Briannardz94 well said! I loveee the animated version growing up, but mostly for the beautiful songs, the funny parts, but not really connected to the whole love story. I see the new movie as a wonderful extension of the original, and actually feels like a more complete story.

@@d43imoetxactly the same happened to me! I liked the animated mainly because of the music. I didn't like the story much nor the scene with the chef and Sebastian (glad they didnt include it in this new version) and finally after 34 years I can say The little mermaid is now one of my favorite movies with this lovely Live-action story. 😊

I love that they’re both low key hoarders 😂 I love that Eric is a strong example that there’s nothing wrong with a man who isn’t afraid of being gentle and kind. I love how they fostered a friendship first before getting married. And Halle Bailey was born to play Ariel 🥹💜

in the live action, their relationship is based on sharing of knowledge and intellect, in the animated it was entirely superficial, Eric literally did nothing but sit and FAWN over how pretty she looked ("Oh i'm sorry Grimsby did you say something?")
