Hi Rusty, It seems you like most of the fat tire reviewers leave our some really important facts: 1. Aventon is a dealer sold bike which means it can be serviced both under and after warranty by that dealer instead of how most online ebikes work, in most places you prove what’s wrong and the company ships you the part and good luck. 2. By federal law any electric vehicle that goes over 20 mph with the throttle is technically not a bicycle and in most states needs to be registered, insured, have horn blinkers and a Manufacturers Statement of Origin ( similar to a title). The Kepler does not have those things. 3. If the vehicle is set up so peddle assist goes over 28 mph the same rules as above apply the limits for bicycles is class 3 (28 mph peddle assist) 4. The motor cannot be above 750 watt nominal (the Aventon is 750 the Kepler is 1000) again above rules listed apply. 5. A bike that is over powered cannot legally be ridden in any bike lanes (Aventon Yes Kepler no) Many states are starting to crack down on these over powered peddle added motor bikes including tickets and potentially court that’s why Aventon builds their bikes to legal specifications other companies selling overpowered vehicles are online only from one of the few states that have some loop hole but still cannot be ridden in bike lanes even in that state.
Hi Buzz great points! Also: 6. The Aventon has an app 7. The Aventon exceeds 28mph in pedal assist, nearly reaching 31mph 8. The Kepler is funner, not better Cheers 🐾⚡‼️
Hi Rusty, As I am certain you know, most ebikes can set up the peddle assist for over their legal limit but ship set up to obey the law. The 2 most important parts are throttle over 20 mph is illegal and motor over 750 watts nominal is illegal as an unregistered uninsured bicycle in most states. They cannot be ridden in the bike lanes, they are for private property use only and those facts should probably be mentioned by anyone reviewing these fat tire vehicles. Your comparing a street/bike lane legal bicycle to a private property only vehicle in almost every state in the United States
@@mrc1436 Yep, curious what kind of bikes we'll see when there are federal regulations in place! I bet manufacturers will then find ways to squeeze better performance out of 750s Cheers!
Lol I have magicycle and I love the 28 plus mph , who cares about state laws they don't enforce them anyway so these companies that sale fast bikes 28 plus mph knows men want them . My first ebike only goes 21 mph and I got tired of other bikes passing me and cruising fast up hills , so I bought magicycle and upgraded the power and I'm so happy and will only by powerful bikes ,, leave the slow law bikes for the old folks .
@@RustyRoads rusty good job , I love fast bikes and own a magicycle ebike , got it for its power and speed of 28 plus mph, there's state laws but it's not enforced , dealers knows men loves speed and power and those are saying well. Leave the 20 mph bikes for the old folks .if I had more money I would certainly also buy a ariel ebike because they are fast.
We have an Aventon Aventure & an AR Kepler on the way…. Your point (on the Aventon) regarding the acceleration factor with throttle only was spot on…. I don’t like that lag as you so awesomely pointed out…. You did a great job showing how fun the Aventure is, in PAS 5 as well! PAS 4-5 is my preference when wanting to go fast, not relying on the throttle at all (my Aventure can go 33 mph ish in PAS 5, when you toggle the speed settings on the app) …… Thank you for reaffirming my decision on our AR Kepler purchase!! Best review out there,, much Appreciation!! 🤙🏽
Congrats! You and your significant other will have so much fun riding together! Both are fantastic bikes, looking forward to hearing your opinion after you ride the Kepler. I'm sure others are as well! Cheers 🐾⚡
Excellent comparison! My wife went for the Aventure, and she is very happy (I would’ve gone for the Kepler myself.). she says that she loves the aventure look, and the fact that the aventure feels like a traditional bike.
Some states can ticket you on the Kepler because it's over the legal limit of 750W. The tickets can cost $600. Most cops won't know the difference, but some will.
@Maradona 86 curious if you bought it from a dealer or online ? I've heard buying from a dealer is better incase it arrives with anything damaged. They will put it together too . I'd feel better when ordering parts through the dealer than online as I've heard negative reviews about Aventons customer service. Thanks if you have any suggestions. Enjoy!
These bikes are nearly identical. I like the Keplar has a little more range and power and comes standard with a larger rear rack. The Aventure motor does not respond as fast as the Kepler, this can be pro or con. A lot of people have been hurt on these ebikes with these aggressive motors, the Aventon chose to make the emotor assist a little bit less aggressive when first engaging, however, the Aventon emotor does provide a lot of torque. At times I find myself having to upshift the pedal bc the motor is providing so much torque. I have had the Aventure up to 32mph, step assist 5 in 8th gear and peddling as fast as I can pedal. I know others who have peddled this bike up to 34mph. I do not place a lot of emphasis on the top speed as most people are not going to ride sustained at these speeds. The 5mph top end difference to me is moot point. The Aventon is more of a polished product, look at the weld seems and how clean the wiring harnesses look. Much of the harness on the Aventon is in-frame for protection and a cleaner look. The Kepler is a very good-looking ebike as well, just not quite as polished. I have had excellent support thru Aventon. I had the bike ordered, drop-ship delivered to my local bike shop (There are two US shipping points, one in S. Cali and one in NC) for assembly and ready for pick-up within a 2-week time frame. So, I do not believe you could go wrong with either of these bikes for what is offered at the price points. There is NOTHING about the Aventure that I am dissatisfied with after owning and riding it for one month. Looking at the Kepler, if I were to own one, I am sure I would be equally satisfied. It's a crowded market and the competition is a winner for the consumer. Fantastic review Rusty Roads, TY.
Thoroughly enjoyed Rusty's review and really liked your take on the comparison issue. I say pick one that suits you and get out and ride!!! Every morning when I wake I think "where will I ride today."
Update If you are buying online this review is very relevant but if you can buy at a shop consider this. Ariel Rider will cover parts only and any defective parts must be shipped back to them prior to them shipping a new part to you. It goes something like; report the problem remove the part send it to us we will inspect it. If we deem it defective we send you a new part you install it. Aventon from dealer; warranty includes parts and labor. You bring it to the shop they diagnose order the parts they replace the parts you get a fixed bike all parts and labor paid by Aventon
Thank you... I literally am deciding between these two bikes. I was on the aventon today at the bike shop. The bike shop is 2 miles from my house and I am not a fix it guy so I might go with the aventon especially since they dropped the price to $1499 now they came out with the adventure 2.
Great comparison job! After almost 2 months of due diligence I just ordered a Kepler. It is in fact my first ebike. But for the price and what I'm getting (over the Rad power 6) that I ALMOST went with. What a difference. Thanks for the awesome video. Keep up the good work. ( what's up Rusty! 👋)
You should do a video on security. what security method is recommended. Lots of locks: D-locks (u-lock), chains etc. brake locks, cafe locks -- pretty hard to find for 26x4" wheels
I have the x52 Ariel arider and am looking to get away from the scrambler style. The Aventon is a great bike, but I totally agree that the 1000w/52v is the way to go. It's fun.
Thanks for this. Have been looking at several bikes to purchase 2 of them for the last 3 months including Electric Bike company Model S, Pedego Interceptor platinum and Propel Gazel step thru (Great Bike but only pedal assist) here in So. Cal and for the value I am buying 2 of the Keplers. I appreciate you.
@@johnhaddock5055 - Nice 👍🏽, glad to hear it. It looks like a wait right now if I decide to order. No hurry just wanted to make sure they were rolling off the line as advertised. Thx!
Just ordered a Kepler two weeks ago, and scrounging for any info on this bike almost seems to be on par with looking for hen’s teeth, so thanks for giving us something to wet our beaks on in the meantime.
@@Angel-AbC9 I've been riding my son's Magicycle and it is nice. But I think it should have hydraulic brakes (they just added a combo deal with uninstalled hydraulic brakes at $1799 to match the price point of the Kepler). With the 750 watt motor I've got it up to 26-27 mph. But with the mechanical brakes I'm very cautious when riding at top speed. I've got a Kepler on order so it will be interesting to directly compare the two.
@@megaboz42 no, they changed the brakes on models 2022 it now tekro or tekdro , it's a step up from the original, plus I paid 1499..I just asked the guy for the 100 discount well I beged and he gave it...
@@Angel-AbC9 Magicycle will get spanked, LOL, and does not compare to the Kepler in almost every performance category that I’m concerned about. Impossible for me to have any buyer’s remorse with my decision to go with the Kepler over ANY other e-bike in this price range.
@@bpoydras1503 lol, I won't say it will get spanked, magiclye peak watts 1440 while kepler 1800 , but magicycle has 22amp while kepler 20 amp , both 52v . Speed 28 to keplers 30 mph isn't a spanking , so 1699 magicycle and kepler 1800 , I say both are good .
Aside from the obvious differences of the battery and motor, what are the key differences between the other components of the bikes? In other words which is the better bicycle when we don’t consider the motor and battery?
I'm currently in the market for my first ebike. I'm a heavier rider (300 lbs), so weight capacity is a factor in my decision. Between the two, the Kepler has a 300 lb weight capacity and the Aventon Aventure has a weight capacity of 400 lbs. While I would enjoy a more powerful motor, I would have to go with the Aventure based on weight capacity if I were to decide between the two. Other bikes I'm considering aside from the Aventon Aventure are the Biktrix Juggernaut Ultra Duo 2 (same specs as the Kepler and can handle up to 380 lbs), and the Cyrusher XF900.
Keep in mind you are a good sized man at 300lbs and you may want the extra power of the Kepler so when you are going up hills you're not killing yourself peddling. I saw a side by side test on RU-vid with two guys of similar weight going up a steep hill just on the throttle without peddling and the Aventon died 3/4 of the way up but the Kepler made it all the way to the top.
@@HeinrichEichmann In the time that I've written my post, I purchased an Aventon Aventure. It has performed quite well for me and I've never experienced my bike dying on me while climbing a hill. If it's a very steep incline, then yes, any electric bike is going to have an issue making it uphill. A 750 watt motor for me has plenty of power and on PA5, it has more than enough power to push me along even when I'm trying to do most of the work by pedaling. As for speed, I've gotten a top speed of 30 MPH out of it and it's not going to do any more than that. That's fine, though. 30 MPH is plenty of speed to get me around. So far, I'm enjoying my first ebike. It's getting me outside and I'm getting exercise, which is what I need.
Aventon is 400lbs rated vs 300 lbs kepler. I can tell you as a bigger guy the first things to go are the seat and the pedals and the brakes and gears will need constant adjusting if not worse. And I want an ebike to work out while going longer distances to see more sites. I feel like that grip throttle would get me in trouble with the cops and be accident prone lol. I believe that delayed throttle is intended.
I am a bigger guy too, so payload is important to me. Do you have either of these bikes and are they working out? I weigh just under 300lbs, so I think I need the 400lb payload so the bike isn't stressed out all the time.
@mikemagri1631 I got freesky Himalaya e bike. 330lb limit. I put 27lbs of pressure in tires. 700 miles no issues. Took it on some rough trails too. I weigh 320 lol
The Keppler seems faster etc.. the aesthetic of the Aventure & handlebars of the Aventure I prefer. I don't like the way it can move up & down like that.. that's an area I'd like rigid. But.. I gotta say, that throttle response looked nice.
I was going to pull the trigger on the Aventon Adventure but when I noticed the thumb throttle on the left side it was a total deal breaker for me. Sorry Aventon, you really did lose a sale because of it. First of all, I don't know if I could get used to it on the left, it's not natural for me, and secondly God gave us an opposable thumb for a reason and that's for gripping onto things. If you hit a large bump with your left thumb away from the handlebar you only have a four finger grip on it. For safeties sake I would prefer to have a secure grip with my thumb wrapped underneath the handlebar especially at higher speeds.
Congratulations on getting your hands on a Kepler to try. Looks like a good bike for the price. I especially like the big solid rack on the back. Very useful.
Thanks so much for the input, it was very helpful ;I'm a first time buyer,(I have not buy the bike yet)and I had my doubts whether to buy the Aventon or the Kepler ;Definitely I'm going to go with the Kepler;Again, thanks so much for your help. 👍🙂
I prefer the looks of the Aventon. It's 1799 as of now. I own the Soltera and it's a quick fun bike to ride. The Aventon Soltera build stays within the laws and just looks like a road bike so no cops will bother me.
So in many/most States, 750 watts is the maximum allowed on public roads-but you can ride on private land (with owners permission). The problem is that you can buy a 1500 watt bike and have way more fun but it is illegal and will only cause more rules and regulations as accidents increase. Aventon Aventure stays within the law and still provides comparable speed and fun imho.
Hi Rusty thank you so much this review, I ended up purchasing the Kepler a few days later and was able to get it up to 47 miles an hour downhill which speed limit unlock to 99 map I also gave you the credit for my purchase thank you Prince. Ariel rider Kepler 47 mph
Hey Prince congrats on the new Kepler!! I'm not surprised you were able to hit 47mph tbh!! I saw the video and wow you were moving!! Great tips and video brother keep it up!! Subbed! Ride safe 🙏🏽🐾⚡️
Yes indeed it is so much fun to cruise around on and can rip it up when needed. Kind of a sleeper and I love that ! Looking forward to seeing what new toys you have coming 🤙🏽🐾⚡
@@RustyRoads Yeah I really want a Grizzly but they’re sold out. Not sure what I’m getting yet, but I’ve got a couple options. Maybe a Bandit? 🤷🏼♂️ Was planning on having something cool for the summer! 😎
Sounds like they were smart by creating that lag because that is the death of a battery and an electric motor is the initial load surge. Keep your fast acceleration personally I will pedal and have longevity in the battery and the motor
I bought the Aventure last Oct. Didn't ride during our winter, but now have about 2K miles on it. I've had to enter act with customer service a few times and IMO the CS is poor. My battery is starting to have less power and distance. The display is small and dim and dims, even more, when you turn on the light. I would not recommend this bike. My other experience is a Lectric XP and IMO their bike is a better bike, especially when you factor in the cost.
It would be awesome if they had an auxiliary XT60 battery plug built into the battery mount so you could ad another battery for more range. I want to add a 1.5 kwh triangle battery to beef the Kepler up to 2.5 kwhs.
Yep I think AR wins this round. I'm excited to see what Aventon does now that there's a new kid on the fat tire commuter bike block! Competition > Innovation > Happier, safer riders spending less
@@markstunes3221 They may design the bicycle that way to prevent someone less skilled from causing an accident by riding into something or someone. If you know how to ride it isn't a problem. Some folks can live with it and some can't. Options can be a good thing.
Hey Michael, Thanks again for this review! Great job (and a biscuit for Rusty!) I was leaning toward the X-52 based on your vast youtube videos, but I'm glad I held out. This Kepler looks like a better bike for my 74 year old body (LOL). All the best...
Hi Tom, thanks for the kind words and the snack for Rusty ! Glad our videos helped you make the right choice for you! Looking forward to hearing how you like the Kepler as well!! Ride safe! 🐾
Alright, this is a good comparison and all, but you know why we're here. You know what we need. We need some shots of Rusty on the Kepler! Also Kepler speed and range tests. But mostly Rusty
I literally was going to buy a steal deal Ariel grizzly gen 2 52v 1000watt bike for 3000 grand an hour ago total the guy put in to it was about another 3 Total at 6 grand. With a top speed of 36mph. Than I come across this and apparently same specs but this may not look as cool but for way cheaper I'm probably going with this.
I mention my height 26 seconds in🤘🏽. I'm pretty sure I mention my weight at some point in the video as well. If not it's approx 145 Thanks for watching 🐾
I wouldn't compare these as the same class of ebike. 1000w vs 750w. Also 2021 tech vs 2022 tech. Doesn't the top speed make the Airel a class 3 only bike?
I ordered my Kepler as soon as it was available, I can't wait to get on it and blaze up these city streets. Ariel Rider puts out a good product, I wish they still had the old school look cruiser ebikes they started with tho. Thanks for putting up the comparison review since there is very little info on them on the RU-vids you earned a sub.
Depending on the state please be aware that any throttle over 20 mph is not considered a bike neither is any electric motor with a nominal rating over 750 watts the Kepler is both and is not allowed in the bike lanes. They are also not legal on the street without being registered with a certificate of origin, blinkers, brake lights and a horn. Many areas have already started cracking down There are a couple of states that have loop holes but do to their new popularity even those states are looking at changing their laws.
@@mrc1436 Thanks 4 the heads up. I have turn signals, motorcycle rated headlights, and other things (mirrors etc.) on order that will get here to me before my bike ships. I have my stickers and my motorcycle license as well.
Ordered one in early April and it's nice to see my purchase may be a good one. Are you planning to get one for yourself? You review was the best I've seen so far. Wish Rusty was one the bike with you
Hi SD thanks, glad you enjoyed it and found it helpful! I'd love one, and am considering getting one for sure !! Congrats on yours!! Same on Rusty but I wasn't familiar with either bike and didn't want to risk falling with him ❤️
I'm more interested in the Aventon. Better quality just with the rapid fire over the entry level thumb gear train alone. Also you didn't mention that the Aventon has an app where you can change it to a level 3 and increase mph up to 28mph. 32 with peddling
@@bobsibert1968 huh? I don't own one one but in comparison it has better components. I have 4 RR6+ in our fleet and the brakes are junk and entry level thumb shifters. Service may be better depending on who you deal with but we've had issues with the cheap components.
Was Rusty soaking up room service while you were out doing this? I picture him in tiny Terry cloth robe laying next to plate with grilled cheese watching Animal Planet.
I noticed that to ..the Ariel rider is always cheaper, but better than the competitors unless it’s much higher than the than the Ariel rider That’s why I chose the best one. The grizzly ❤… I thank you.
Not an apples-to -apples comparison. The Kepler has a 1000w motor vs. the Aventon 750w motor. It's obvious why the Kepler is faster and more responsive. Regardless of that, great video and I'm not hating at all. Love your content. I would like to see the Kepler go up against another 1000w motor bike.
Not true. I have an Adventure and it's laggy compared to other 750 watt bikes I have. It's even laggier than 500 watt bikes I have. The throttle lags, it takes off very slow, and when pedaling it sometimes take five or six rotations before the motor kicks in. I have a Kepler on order to replace it.
@@logitech12345678910 the motor kicks in on my Keplar in about a half of a rotation. I have started off in 5th or 6th gear on a slight incline and the pas always picks up my slack.
@@markstunes3221 that's great to hear. I have one on order so looking forward to replacing the Adventure. The Adventure has been an awesome bike, but the pedal delay really annoys me.
Excellent, informative video, I'm strongly considering getting the Ariel Rider Kepler myself because my work commute is just 5 miles on city streets. My biggest remaining question, however, is about the braking capabilities. . .how quickly does it come to a stop from these advertised high speeds? For example, if you get cut off by someone in a car, necessitating a quick, hard stop.
A car pulled out in front of me (and my Keplar) this morning. I was standing still in no time. Luckily I lengthened my arms and squatted low or I may have kept going..........ALONE........WITHOUT THE KEPLAR!!!
@@JimyOfficial they're really nice... and seriously powerful. We did unlock the maximum speed on them (high thirties), but the brakes, like almost all ebikes, ARE bicycle brakes, and I didn't feel comfortable with their stopping power at that speed, so I governed them at 26mph.
Tough choice for me. That acceleration and power is sweet to have but I’m not crazy about the looks of it. Aventon has better hardware and it looks great. 🤔
XLNT video! Searching for 2d e-ride & came upon this H2H comparison & am partial toward Kepler. Was wondering if you've heard of E-Cells 600w Hardtail or Super ST AWD 1000w...
Thanks for making this video. Good comparison, I’m wondering if you think one is made better than the other overall? Like is one more reliable long term? Getting parts for e-bikes seems to be challenging with certain brands. Thanks again
Quality first.besides the Kepler looks like they just stuck on a battery and called it a day it's kind of ugly in comparison to a well polished aventon
I really wasn't looking for a "pretty" bike. But this bike performs "pretty" darn well. The hidden batteries do look better, but it would be kinda hard to camoflauge this large 13 lb battery within the frame.
TO CHANGE FACTORY TOP SPEED ON KEPLER When bike is off press and hold power button until four zeros appear. Passcode is 2020. Select Controller Parameters. Speed Limit. Adjust to desired limit in km/h. Real top speed is about 35mph. I just set mine to 75km/h. Bam-done!
This is for all you hall monitors, gate keepers, safety patrolers, and NARCs out there. This is an excerpt from an email I received from Jamie at Ariel Rider this morning. "Thank you for your recent purchase! We ship all of our bikes as Class 2 E-bikes with the proper Class 2 stickers/verification. For E-Bikes 20 mph is the legal limit to still be considered a class 2 e-bike. Once you unlock the top speed it is considered a class 3 e-bike. Please note that when you change the speed limiter, your ebike is no longer a class 2 ebike. Legal note: Changing the speed limiter is at the rider's own risk. Please check your local ebike laws to make sure you’re not breaking any laws. Ariel Rider/Arba International is designing their ebikes to go at an optimal 20mph and is not liable for any damage that might occur due to high speeds." TLDR: So regulations are met for the Kepler just like most other ebikes as they are limited from the factory and we as the consumer are discouraged from removing those limits.
How is the Kepler claiming 75 mile range on a single charge? Is the usage unrealistic like keep on Pedal Assist level 1 to get 75 miles? Anyone achieved 75 miles per charge?
How would you say the High Step model fits someone about 5'8-5'9- with shoes and 32" inseam ? I'm looking at getting the Kepler , but want to be sure it's not going to be ridiculous trying to get on / off... how low can the seat go ? Great video's BTW !!
Isn't a nom 1000w motor considered a moped under the CA Class 3 codes which most states have adopted? And therefore requires registration. I live in NV and a Class 3 is
Hi TSR, you are correct. Ariel Rider ships their bikes with the speed limiter governed to class 2 20mph speed. It's up to the rider to unlock this feature. I'm curious what federal laws would entail if/when it gets to that 🤔 Cheers!
Aventon is a good Ebike but far from the best value, im surprised they are still in business, they are for grandmas and college kids. I have owned both brands, Ariel is a superior product in terms of performance and value for their entire lineup.
keplar all the way fastest and most powerful in its class at a good price. i just wonder if not having a mid drive if it will make it up very steep hills like a 90 percent grade?
Ariel Rider Kepler has an *external controller* strapped to the seat tube. That is not cool design at all. I wish they would fix that like other ebikes have done
Hey, do you know anything about how the Ariel Rider shipping is? I ordered my Kepler on OCTOBER 30th; and it still isn't here (January 11). I am just wondering how long it took for you to get yours.
They don't have discount codes anymore unfortunately 😔 The bright side is their prices are pretty much discounts compared to the competition Thanks for watching!!
Did you get a feel for what the real world range might be? That's the only thing keeping me from pulling the trigger on a Kepler right now. No one has tested the range yet
I only had it for a few hours unfortunately. Considering it's lighter than the Xclass , with a similar motor and controller, and a larger battery I can see these bikes hitting about 25 on throttle only and probably double that of pedaling
Rode 26 miles and still had 86% used pas 4 & 5 most but had to slow down and stop quite a bit. I'm trying to plan a 5 hr outing where I can see how far I can go.
Well couple of things were overlooked .The aventon has a much better fit and finish. It also has an acera derailleur which is two levels up from the entry level tourney on the Kepler. Also the lighting on the aventure is good enough as a standalone at night. Not sure of the same for the Kepler Disappointing because Ariel rider advertises an altus derailleur but that was clearly a tourney. A
@@markstunes3221 I got mine too, and yes it's an Altus :). Have to agree while it's definitely more powerful, lacks the refinement of the aventure. It's super if mainly using throttle, but I found pedalling the aventure a better experience.
Hi TM! Yes the Aventon in the video was a large. Both bikes felt the same size while riding, and while stopped. As well as feeling pretty similar to mount/dismount. The Kepler comes in a low and mid step option, both are the same size, with the difference being the height of the top bar. Thanks for watching !!
Hi Selene! Unfortunately this was a loaner so I won't be able to do that comparison. Very different geometry with these bikes but it's awesome they have virtually the same powerplant. With those bigger wheels and lower weight it seems like the Kepler can possibly have a higher top speed? Hmmm 🤔🐾⚡
