The funny thing is that as soon as the Sioux Indians got guns and horses from the white man, they exterminated the Arikawas. Most people today are very naïve about the brutality that went on for thousands of years in tribal warfare
I am of native American blood and of Portuguese, but I am American Puerto Rican and my family from way back in 1920s have always said that if the Europeans wouldn't of taken over , some other country would of, so me personally I am happy that America is what it is now , if not this country would of been like South America and very poor
I like how in his letter he failed to mention that they were attacked, not out of the blue, but because 2 of their party decided that they wanted a little extracurricular activities.
I remember in high school years ago we read old documents about settlers in Ohio fighting against Indians. There was a group of 4 or 5 settlers that would wage their own war against Indians during the war of 1812. They would sneak up on a Indian camp, wait till dark and pick off one Indian with their excellent shooting skills. Then melt back into the forest. Wait four or five days and do it again to the same group of Indians. This went on for months with the Indians being unable to fight back. It was a very effective means of waging war.
So basically" 2 men broke ranks & went outside of the security of the camp seeking sex" & sacrificed the mission & saftey of the trading party"" A lack of order in the ranks caused this disaster.
Any time you mess with women, your sister, daughter, mother, wife, you are asking for, and deserving of, a fight. Real men honor and protect women. Great episode!👍👌💪
Enjoyed the short history of the Arikara. The era this happened was nearing the end of the great tribes of the plains Indians. A time where life was short for many and hard for all. I will watch for more of your history lessons. Thanks!
