This is a video in my new Core Concepts series -- designed to provide students and lifelong learners a brief discussion focused on one main concept from a classic philosophical text and thinker.
This video focuses on Aristotle's work, the Nicomachean Ethics, and focuses upon his discussion of how first principles are derived and used, and what degree of exactness is possible, within the discipline of ethics, in book 1.

The first point on the board you explain reminds me of one of my favorite Borges vignettes, On Exactitude in Science.

your comment on Aristotle as a guide for Friendships motivated me here...and now want to begin closer to the beginning (while saving Plato for another time) i am so very grateful for you videoing your self over time. We are also listening to the Library series you did on Science Fiction. AND... finally getting a toe into Neitzche because of your videos on him. And i was only looking into the Enchiridion class you did!!! Thanks so much for your teaching , especially your relaxed style.
