My condolences to his loved ones. I nearly drowned in 2013 and trouble came on so fast. I don't know what type of current that I got caught up in but it had me spinning in circles and my legs kept getting twisted around each other. I was right next to the river bank. My step mom was already on shore and she had turned around to see where I was at. She grabbed my bathing suit top from the back and dragged me out of the water. It was only a couple of minutes that i got caught in the current and I had gone under twice by the time my step mom saved me. I tried every step that I had learned in swim class and none of them worked. I became exhausted quickly. Be careful. Dont go swimming alone. I wear one of those para cord bracelets when I go swimming now and so does whoever I go swimming with so that in case of an emergency we have a line we could throw to each other. Diving in to save someone who is drowning seems too risky. Idk if the para cord thing would work out but its better to have some sort of plan than not.
I've been to Ricky point hundreds of times and only got pulled out once, luckily i was scuba diving so i had a flotation device on and flippers, so i just kicked on my back all the way back.
