I feel you on the reliability thing. I have an 80 series with 345k miles on it. Rebuilt absolutely everything on it, engine, injectors, wiring loom, exhaust system, etc and still have issues here and there and it doesn't run perfect. I think it's just one of those things that at some point it should be a parts car, probably what I should've done.

You're a young guy, and there's plenty of time for trips in the Troopy. They don't all work out!

I just lived through almost the same thing except I’m in a new ford maverick, I got a rock in my radiator unbenounced to me and it left me stranded in Oregon on a road trip, before I knew it was a hole from a rogue rock I felt the uncertainty you felt here thinking how could this happen I can’t trust this new vehicle etc I still have a bit of that feeling as I plan my next road trip to Utah, but I did get some comfort knowing that it wasn’t a component that broke down it was some damage that I incurred, hope you get back out there whether it’s the troopy or any other vehicle and you feel the confidence of knowing you’ll make there and back!

It sucks that happened bro. I learned my lesson from having an imported vehicle. No matter how reliable a vehicle is, the scarcity of parts always the problem. I went from a Hilux to Tacoma for that reason. Also had a Jeep Jk. Jeep was always breaking but everytime something broke the parts place always had that part in stock. Lesson learned was drive a vehicle that is marketed in the place you plan to drive. Hope all goes well bud.

A year of owning the troop is not long enough to loose hope. You’re slowly learning and understanding your vehicle more and more. Every car has niggles that will poke their head

I have a 93 hdj81 and I had air or leak from my injector pump as soon as I stranded putting in a diesel fuel additive I haven't had an issue but it now has 100k kilometers or 60k miles ish but this truck sat for most of its life so its been 1 thing after another with baseline and now my solenoid went out and it converts the 12v system to a 24v starter. Got a 12v starter but the wiring has to be redone so I don't have a Christmas tree of warning light. So I get it but keep on it dude if your like me this truck isn't going anywhere

I feel the frustration. Its an uphill battle to keep things happy especially when we use them like we do. With every new part comes a little more peice of mind. Keep at it and keep truckin.

Just bad luck buddy. I sold my previous 91 80 Series for the same reason and I regretted it. My 98 100 Series on the other hand has been nothing but amazing reliability and long trips without any issues

Don’t give up, a new car can give up issues then you have to wait months for parts to become available. Have the pump overhauled or replaced by a good specialist who knows what they are doing,also at the same time make sure everything tuned correctly. It may pay to run another fuel filter with a water separator that you can drain before the factory filter, because bad diesel can destroy pumps & injectors. I’ve believe this issue will pass & you will enjoy the experiences of owning a troopy. 👍👍👍🍻

It’s almost 30 years old with 400k miles… There’s going to be some growing pains
@allterraintrails

We've replaced almost the entire driveline at this point so we're hoping these growing pains come to a close soon 😅

@@allterraintrails Next will be making sure the frame & body rust are taken care of haha. (I’ve been down this road with Defenders) Once you have a really good base line, you will never want to get rid of it if you plan to do loads of travel. Modern stuff has way too many electronics to fix on the side of the road. You’ll give up some comfort, but there’s always trade offs! Plus stuff like this always ends up being a conversation piece with random people.

All depends how the previous owner treated the vehicle. Maybe they never did maintenance, that can put a toll on a vehicle and shorten its lifespan.

I really feel your frustration with the troopy at the moment. At times it can only be a labour of love. You can maintain an old car as much as want but sometimes things just fail or wear out. An injector pump is probably somewhat independent of maintenance. I hope you get it sorted soon and complete a great trip to get some of your confidence back.

Your planning is a bit off. If your want reliable wheeling in north america, and plan to do high kms, then a 400km 27 year old vehicle from a hot dry climate isnt a good fit. Im not surprised with the troubles your having. At 27 years, all the rubber seals, orings need to be replaced. Thats a given. The gearbox and transfer are due for bearings and seals If you want to use the 70 series platform, and dont know about the service history of the vehicle , then every thing needs to be inspected. Then a plan put in place to address what needs to be done. All parts are available. Cost effective kits are made up to rebuild components. Needs to be ordered. Step back from the emotional connection to a vehicle. Does the design fit my aspirations? 25 -30 years old. All rubbers and seals need to be replaced. Have they been done? Service history? How was it used? Are parts available locally?

Thanks for the input! We have combed through the vehicle several times and put in a substantial amount of maintenance into it including gear box rebuild, tcase rebuild, differential rebuilds, knuckle rebuilds and so on. The entire driveline except for the engine has been rebuilt or replaced. I agree to remove the emotional aspect from the vehicle but that proves to be a difficult task at times! We've found Some parts can be sourced from other series such as the 60 but most come from Australia or the UAE. This was no surprise for us and is what we expected.
