Arizona Summer Vegetable planting basically never stops. You may think it does because the temperatures get so high but the fact is we can plant and harvest several things all through the summer. In today’s video I give you a long look at what you can plant in June, July, August, and September. The goal of this video is to show that you have many chances to correct things that didn’t work in early spring planting that could pay off for you later.
Each month I will continue to offer insight into what you can plant, while I hope that you take this long look as a perspective of planning more than anything. Doing the research really helped me zero in on future planning in a way that I hadn’t considered before.
Happy Planting!

Your monthly lists are always so helpful! Just now starting to pull the spent plants from the winter/spring plantings. Next will be reconditioning the soil to be ready for the next plantings! My new shade cloth has really extended the grow time (and harvest) from the previous planting. Have a great week.

Very helpful, especially since I always feel behind with all the planting - great to get ready for 4 months so that is enough time to plan - I am grateful for all your sharing :)

Thank you for all the work you put into the planting guides. I'm still learning desert gardening. Kingman's not quite the same as Phx, but it's close enough that your guides are very helpful. My tomatoes aren't as far along as yours, but they're looking good. I got the shade cloth on my strawberries finally. I need to replant beans, malabar spinach, and corn. But my cardoon is coming up really well!
@AllPurposeMom
@AllPurposeMom 3 года назад
Tell me more about Cardoon, is that an herb or spice? I have malibar going from transplant not so big but when you do have them going know they are easy to propagate, by cutting a stem and placing in water. Good luck my friend, I hold a place for you always.
@PurePondering
@PurePondering 3 года назад
@@AllPurposeMom cardoon is a "cousin" to artichoke. It is a perennial. The flowers are a bit smaller than artichokes. You eat the stems instead of the buds. The leaves also make a good chop and drop, same as artichoke leaves. We harvested our very first artichokes this year and are going to let the rest of the buds bloom so that we can have more plants. slowly, but surely.

I've got 3 brussel sprout plants.. each is developing very different.. one has many on it but have to get bigger to harvest.. but I've had bugs destroy most of my cabbage and broccoli.. so I'm looking forward to replanting for fall.

When you say we can start planting at certain times, are you referring to seeds or seedlings? (I know, I can look at my seed packets but I feel better getting info from someone who knows about planting in 9b. Thanks so much for these videos!! 🙂
@AllPurposeMom
@AllPurposeMom 2 года назад
From seed, sometimes I say from transplant which mean a seedling already started by you inside or by the nursery. Most seed packets aren't going to be relative to our growing zone because they say after your last frost and we have 3-4 growing seasons here depending on how you look at it.

I’m wondering can you tell us where you got that seed organizer from?
@AllPurposeMom

Sure it's a photo keeper box from Michael's. The normal price is stupid so I wait for them to go on sale for 14.99 then buy. They have similar ones on Amazon.

I planted seeds towards the end of February, we are now in June and most of my plants are small sprouts. I water my garden 7am and I have shade up. Not sure what I'm doing wrong.
@AllPurposeMom
@AllPurposeMom 3 года назад
How long has the shade cloth been up? What kind of soil are they planted in? Have they been fertilized?
@sw33tdr3m1
@sw33tdr3m1 3 года назад
@@AllPurposeMom hi, thanks for reply I put shade up in May, I use the yellow bag called flower & veggitable garden soil with kellogs all natural garden soil that one is a red bag, I add vitamin B, azomite, coconut coir, Alaskan fish fertilizer, worm casting, and vermiculite in feb when I planted the seeds. Just 2 weeks ago I added for Alaskan fish fertilizer and vitamin B. Back in Jan before I planted in late February I added compost too.
@AllPurposeMom
@AllPurposeMom 3 года назад
@@sw33tdr3m1 you did a lot of great things to improve that bag soil high five lady!! So let's think about compost as something we re-dress consistently like every 3 months or definitely after each new planting. So I would get a bag or two of bioflora compost if you can find it in stock my summerwinds has been out but I'm also enjoying EB Stone's organic compost at summerwinds also. I usually do a layer of worm castings and then a layer of compost. Next what do you have planted that hasn't grown much? Is this a brand new bed or container?
@sw33tdr3m1
@sw33tdr3m1 3 года назад
@@AllPurposeMom hi, yhank you for the info when I goggle Bioflora compost it mentioned a store called bioflora in goodyear is that right? Also I been having my 4 raised beds for quite some time now. And I planed all kinds of different veggies. So not sure what I did wrong. Since I water my garden every morning at 7am. But I will be adding compost and wormcasting in layers like you mentioned.
@AllPurposeMom
@AllPurposeMom 3 года назад
@@sw33tdr3m1 they do make it in Goodyear but you have to buy it a nursery. If your beds have been around that long it would be good to have a soil test, you can get a inexpensive one at Summerwinds Nursery or you can get the Maricopa cooperative to test for free but takes longer.
