Crystal isles will always be speical in my heart. I beta tested for CI when it was a mod map. Some fun facts about the map for your read: There were plans to add more Crystal wyverns. A jungle type for the great vally, a sky verion for the floating islands and I think there was 1 more but I don't recall what it was going to be. In the underwater part of the bee cave there were small ghost squids that had the power of the full normal squid.... it was scary The shards of Eldridge Isle used to give full on element till the team realized that was a bit much. and lastly the sadest part of all, pretty much all the DLC content was gutted. There were plans to add most of EXT dinos and even more crystal creatues such as a crystal snow owl. That did end up becoming a mod made by Spezz himself. Great video Ned!
In short: Crystal Isles was supposed to be really cool, but WC gave us a watered down 💩 version with no rock drakes, but then stuck drakes on Fjordur ANYWAY!!
The lore i made up for the eldrich biome is that due to the element being imbued with the place magnitism and water began to go weird and then bubbles but it also would explain the storms and low humming noise coming from the place Also it kills me that you used a pickaxe for mining the element axes give more my man
CI is my main map on the cluster I play in. But after having done all artifact caves on the Island (our current rotating map), I really wish the artifacts weren't just plopped down randomly...
I loved this map when it made it's way to console. I built a base on a tropical island. Unfortunately I fell out of love with the map shortly after that. I got bored pretty quickly. Each biome is beautiful but something is missing.
@@NeddyTheNoodle I've kept a base on CI for the Griffin trench. I like to visit the Griffin trench during holiday's. I've found a lot of great event colors there. CI is definitely not the primary map that I play on though.
You can get impregnated, then transfer your character. Our allies did that. What was preventing us from taking anything else from other maps was the fact that you couldn't manually upload / download dinos to or from the server at the time
Crystal isles is a good cluster map if you want to farm or get specific stuff or artifacts easy. Seems the only purpose. Not much actual content challenges.
The artifacts may be laughable, but what makes CI's boss arena a pain, imo, is the relatively high primal crystal tribute requirement coupled with said item's spoil timer.
You know they won’t …. Think about it if you implement rockdrakes to a free map what would be the purpose of buying aberration?, just nameless and 15 extra levels.
I don't remember the extent to which I covered caves on the story maps, but I've made evolution guides for every ARK map up until Fjordur which I'm working on soon
Crystal isles is really good for lazy pve players. The element is so easy to get. You can farm like 100 and hour on official settings. I know genesis 1 and 2 is better but Crystal isles is free.

As far as ark maps goes, it‘s really bland, like genesis 1, but actually bad. Or like lost island except lost island is slight worse because most of the map is forest. The snow biome is nice but the rest of the map is desert. Great
