In the corner of Wakefield Marketplace for many years you might have come across a round green shed. Inside the door was Shaws Speedway which had retired from travelling in the 1990's and ran in its later years as a Waltzer on the road but the bikes returned to the platforms when the ride was built up at Wakefield.
Every Saturday on market day the Sppedway opened for £1 entry for 2 rides and 50p for each additional ride once inside it was great value and proved a popular hangout for the local teenagers.
