In this video I show some more advanced tips on building a taming raft to hopefully give some advice on how you can build one yourself and customise it to suit your needs. We cover an Argy Taming Raft and a Spino Taming Raft. A side loading Taming Raft and How to trap a megalodon.

Congrats on 14k! Awesome video, as always. It´s very good how many details and little tricks you mentioned in this one. I never used rafts before I got to know you but now I can´t live without them anymore. I definitely will have to try the one for the Spino too.

Thanks for the raft ideas. I normally just like building in ark and leaving the taming to other people, but on our latest server wipe Ive decided to be more independant and set everything up myself. I was trying to work out how to tame rexes and spinos without a friend helping me like usual and this is just great for me

Nice build! You can lower the foundation over the rutter once more to still be able to access it while also protecting the bottom. You can then place a hatch frame over the top like you had already done and it should all be level.

Awesome! Love both builds. There's even a build I've seen where the turning radius traps an Argie in even without a door. I've not tried it with recent updates, but it involves putting a fence foundation at an angle on a foundation and then a ramp down from the ceiling. I'll see if I can find the other video. But those are great builds you have. Though I've tried using your taming methods after trapping them. They seem to sleep for a long time and not ever wake up. Puzzled here. :)

Fun fact: When you were testing the 0000 code for the door, the door on the other raft was opening and closing also. This is why its important to know what doors you want for a code and never use one code for everything electrical, but I'm not criticizing, just noting to new players and electrical items.

Use fence foundations to snap dino gate. Place one fence foundation perpendicular to the rafter alinging to the sail before first pillar also. No need to drop foundation with this method

I actually forgot about the ceiling and foundation trick on rafts, so that was very refreshing. I didn't know about the attack line of sight with Spinos and that you can block them. Good video, thanks. - you can place a normal foundation at the rudder, just make it go one lower and then you have full access to drive and the underneath of Raft is fully protect.

+Trevor Rogers Cheers mate. Yes, that seems like a good strategy. Especially since the hatchframe update doesn't allow you to access objects through them if they have a trap door placed.

lower the foundation once on the rudder section with pillar drop trick. It will allow driving and you can put hatch above that foundation to lock raft

Great vids, been a fan for a bit. I wanted to help with the Rutter issue! When doing foundation, sink the one at the Rutter flush. You can drive and the bottom is protected. You can't go through hatches but you save a couple pieces. Add the top hatch and a ramp...saves 2 pieces. I am just sharing. Very cool Argey cage....love the remote pad

Over the rudder put a foundation sunken by another step so that you can access it through a foundation, then put a hatch frame and hatch over that

Cool video, but I have a question: why don't you use a beheamoth gates and build a universal taming pen for both fliers and rexes/gigas?

In the past I was always able to hold onto the rudder and place the initial pillar, but lately I've not been able to have the first pillar do that. Always have to pull back a little bit for it to be able to place at the front of the boat. Will a Spino will fit in a 2x2 taming pen or does it need to be at least 3x3? I know a T-Rex will fit in a 2x2 but I haven't tried to tame a Spino yet.

Could you use the large pillars on the raft? Then wouldn't it count as 1 structure instead of 3?

isn't it's better to use wall foundation for a proper alignment of gates? i used on our tribe taming raft, but noticed one thing that if you destroy both those foundations gates gets destroyed too, even thought gates also supported by walls, anyway very good video and maybe will be going for argentavis raft.

I had tried this designs an it is not working with two dinos: 1. Alpha Raptor (it is small to pass over the spaces between doors) 2. Rex. Once that he is inside and awake whiledriving the raft just decides to run away and it has happen to me 2 times. Any suggestion on how to improve it ?

I just put down a behemoth gate that i want to use as part of a taming trap, and it's opening the other way. Oh well, we'll deal with it. Just wanted to point out it doesnt always quite work that way (apparently)

I put all four walls down surrounding the underwater hatchframe instead of just one wall. It will completely enclose the raft and you wont have to worry about being attacked from underneath.

LOL No worries, he does do a lot with the remastered stuff that I wish we had on vanilla. ESPECIALLY the structures plus stuff for us poor console folks who cannot do mods.

you can place fence foundations along the edge to snap the dino gate to. makes it easier imo :) and with the hatchframe issue.. you keep the foundations a notch above the raft to protect it, but what about placing a foundation in the "driver seat" at raft level? then it should be protected from below, and only be exposed at the driver seat, where there is no dinos to damage the raft anyway. also you save some blocks for the official server settings of max 84 blocks (or 88.. cant remember)

I think using the fence foundation would move the gate to far forward so the bird could escape. You are right about lowering a foundation over the rudder one more step. Putting a hatch over top as well in PvP is still a smart idea, I think players could still attack the rudder without. The max on normal servers is 88.

ahh yeah that might be an issue with the fence foundations. didnt think of that. and yeah ofcause the hatchframe design is better for pvp. i always play pve, thats why i didnt think of that :)

Thnielsen85 I have used a design that I think is a little better than this one because it doesn't use a dino gate or genny. you make a 3x3 with ceilings and doorframes that is 1 high. you leave one side open but put a couple angled walls on the lower ceiling with the taller side facing in. the entire thing is supported by pillars so you can fly your pterodactyl under and get the argy stuck inside. you then land on top and block the entrance with a pillar and the bird is trapped. it's not my design, I found a video on it and tried it out. the one in this video is more versatile because I'm sure you could trap some land dinos too.

for rudder protection: rather than waste 5 structures the way u have just sink another foundation there 1 lower. then u can drive and it's protected at just the cost of 1 structure.

yo Timmy first of all your level of awesome is way over 9000 before I'd found your vids I'd given up on building anything but boxes now forgive me for sounding noobish but could you do a few vids or even answer a few questions 1 can I attach multiple boats with foundation or something and increase the buildable number making a massive supercarrier 2 would you be willing to make a playlist showing every step of how you build something from picking locations to planing the build to making the area magically flat enough to build and so on to finish

+xxxchaosxxx92 Ah cheers mate. Always glad to help people moving out of boxes and into homes. There is currently no way to link rafts together. Althougg I have seen some pretty crazy builds where people have parked rafts next to eachother and made it seem like it's one structure. That sounds like a great idea for a mini-series. I'll definitely do that in the future.

TimmyCarbine Gaming I'm working on simular myself but I really want to be able to build stuff like your what can only be described as half city half mansion in season 3 but it never seems to work for me usually the terrain gets in the way and I get frustrated and wipe my world spawn somewhere new and hope to stumble on that perfect spot but I always see you working in either the best spots or making the worst ones work for you I personally would love to see you make a playlist detailing how you build so I could go from nood to awesome lol and it'd really help I'm currently working on starting a tactical walkthrough but being a better builder would really help when I start recording that

too tired to look through the comments but if you have some pieces left on your building limit you can get a full stone ramp by placing one wall down from the foundations edge and then a thatch one under that, which of course you can delete when youre finished. Then you can add ceilings, a corner, and slopes. Pretty good if you are trying to save on resources early on.

Just calculated it because I wanted to build it. 4820 Stone 3052 Wood 2064 Thatch 191 Fiber 105 Metal 75 Hide 30 Cementing Paste That total might have an extra stone wall, stone hatchframe, and reinforced trapdoor

+Lyro92 Now that sounds like a challenge. 2 things I can think of that will give me issues with that are; 1. How to get the rex to ignore the Paracer and just walk up the ramp; and 2. How to build it so the ramps actually touch the ground.

Well I know you can put ramps out the front and they touch the ground, so you may be able to do it from the side, and essentially box the paracer in. Idk if it could be done, but it would be cool to make a mobile one, even if it's not for a rex, but for other things, even an argy, I think that'd be cool at least XD

Duckin D Most dinos can destroy wooden structures, so buiilding this in Wood is not recommended.

That happened to me as well. What I discovered is that I must have been too close to shore cause once I turned the raft around, so that the side I was working on was in even deeper water, and tried again it worked. Hope this helps.
